Daggotel Inc.(est.1953) has developed a counter "anti-bauxite detector" which obviously worked by allowing the mother-load to land in Reddo Central. Just proves that Reddotel needs to go back to the drawing-board and get their IT experts in.......it may have perfected the "anti-fobergross detector" after the invasion by Will & Lyns' Kennedy, but they have obviously not perfected and matched the technology from the West in regards to bauxite. This appears to be the Cold War all over......old Eastern technology v. modern, sophisticated Western (Australian) technology. Thank you comrade Reddo for welcoming us into your gulag. Today we escaped from the clutches of Reddo Central (before the dreaded bondwood whiteants moved into the frame of "Lady Madonna" ) and we have moved on to Munmorah. Will fill in the gaps between Kingy's and here over the next few days. Daggsey.

Hi Daggsey, What a great trip, keep the photos coming - even though we're full of envy, it's fun to watch your trip unfold. Just watch that Reddo, I think his new "Reddotel has recently come up with a new "Aluminium chip" that has been added to the wood-o-matic." is just the start of his evil plan to do away with all non bondwood vans. Don't fall into his trap, outside he is a lovable character, but inside he is hatching his dastardly plans - I have very good information that after perfecting the Aluminum chip he is now working on the Fibreglass chip :-[to do away with the beautiful smoooooth lines of the plastic fantastics ;D Just get away as soon as you can and keep having fun. Cheers, tonyh

Hi folks, We haven't quite fallen off the radar . Have just spent 3 weeks in Taree with my dad and undertaking a modification to "Lady Madonna". The over-riding brakes were just not doing the job, so I have fitted electric brakes. Where we left you last was at Boorowa, prior to Reddo's and Munmorah 2008, so have got a fair bit of updating to do . From Boorowa we moved on to Young, the cherry capital of Australia...a visit to "Chinaman's Dam" is worth a visit...... What a great tow car this would make ;D......... Caught up with a mate from the FE-FC forum, Norm and his FC that he used to race......bit worse for wear now... Norm & his Di (& his mother who was born in Donnybrook WA) took us on an interesting drive in the nearby countryside and showed us this very interesting castle, reputedly the only one in Australia...... From Young on to Cowra via Greenthorpe.....an interesting little town to say the least....... eat your heart out Reddo ;D ;D....... a daily driver in Greenthorpe..... in their backyard, an FC ute (shed) and FC 1 tonner project....... This wonderful site in the Cowra Caravan Park.....a rose between 2 thorns ;D .......... A day trip to Gooloogong and all this heritage stuff ;D........... and Grenfell, birthplace of Henry Lawson........ A must stop for all is Charlie McCarron's collection of Holdens at his former GMH dealership at Canowindra, just out of Cowra.......all for sale, as a job lot or individually (oh for the Lotto dream ;D ;D)......... More to follow....................... Daggsey

Everything at Charlie's musem has got a price that has to be seen to be believed. That black 48/215 is for sale for $1.2 million Did you stay at the Caravan Park at Canowindra? We did, it's a grreat little park. I bought my XB V8 Fairmont off Charlie but I think I got a good deal........probably because its not a Holden. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the interest guys and guyesses. Didn't get as far as Wintersun because of commitment in Taree.......congratulations Cruz on your win ;D. Hey Reddo, I think the song goes "gimmee, gimmee, gimmee a van after midnight..." ;D ;D ;D ;D (the weatherboard box on wheels is in Greenthorpe) Having left Canowindra and Charlie McCarron and his toys, we cruised on to Forbes. Free camping spot in Lions Park next to the lake........ Final resting place in Forbes for Ben Hall (bushranger).....I wonder if they could have been more specific concerning his death ;D ;D ;D................ Ned & Dan Kelly's sister, Kate and Captain Cook's great-grand-neice (now that's drawing a long bow for tourism isn't it???;D ;D)........... On to Parkes and a visit to the Radio Telescope is a must see...... Headed west to Bogan Gate............. Spotted an old caravan (home-built in the mid-sixties by the current owner and his father) under a carport.......... We were invited into a real shed of invention by this gentleman (the owner of the above caravan), a retired engineer (built his own lathes, drill presses etc ;D ;D )................. He had a number of vehicles in his yard, including a Holden 1 tonner with a VN Commodore V6 in it and this little ripper with low miles ("I'm gunna do her up one day!!!" and he probably will ;D ;D)........... Dunno if they got the spelling wrong ;D ;D ;D........... Met modern drover with mobile watertanker and "Lady Madonna's" mother....a long-wheelbase Viscount..........droving 800 head of cattle in the long paddock to Coonamble...... Trundled on to Trundle, which has reputedly, the widest main street in NSW......... Found this little beauty in a disused service station........ Hit our first serious gravel road on way to Peak Hill......who says you need a 4wd........."Holden, built for Australian conditions" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Peak Hill....the home of many old vehicles requiring restoration, but not for sale (let's hope the owner doesn't give in to the "metal miners" ....... The same chap owns these premises........ Another rescue on it's way from Victoria to Northern NSW........ Back down the Newell Highway to Parkes, then through Orange to this famous spot in Bathurst.......... Headed north-east from Bathurst to Sofala, an old gold-mining town similar to Walhalla in Victoria, but a little more run-down.......... a great free-camping spot 10kms east of town....... Travelling east to Kandos, home of high-quality cement...... another "gunna restore these one day" (at least they're out of the weather........... On to Rylstone, one of the many towns of my youth (it was great to have a father in a bank...constantly on the move)........ On to Gulgong (the town on the ten dollar note and where Henry Lawson lived for some time)........... One of the best museum's I have ever visited and should not be missed under any circumstance......... Yet more to follow.......... Daggsey

hi guys
you 2 sure are having a great trip (they said jealously).
isn't it amazing how many old cars and vans there are out there just waiting to be restored, if the owners were prepared to let them go.
great photos of the country - keep them coming.

Hi Geoff & Jude and others interested, But wait, there's more!!! I feel like I'm robbing people of their own adventure by putting all these photos on the forum, although I can assure you there is an awful lot of Australia out there to see. After leaving Gulgong, our journey took us across into the Upper Hunter through the coal-mining town of Ulan (I always thought it was oil of Ulan ;D ;D) to Cassilis and an overnight stay in Merriwa. Cassilis..... Merriwa........ From Merriwa it was onto Barnsley via the Hunter Wineries (a stop at Tyrell's Winery...150 years old this year)........ through the scenic town of Broke (where more coalmining is proposed).......... (at least the owners had a sense of humour ;D ;D ;D) and under the radar of Reddo Central ;D ;D ;D ;D..........he tried all sorts of dastardly deeds to keep the beautiful aluminium-bodied "Lady Madonna" out........ but to no avail ......... he had to concede defeat and became so enamoured of bauxite, he actually tried to block our exit.....(perhaps he was devising an evil plan to hijack & sell "Lady Madonna" and Effacy on that auction website )......... We managed to escape the evil one's clutches, and just like the "Postcard Bandit" I secured this photo ;D ;D ;D....... Once I had the incriminating evidence of the "great escape", the evil-one was all sweetness and light ;D ;D........ So, to Munmorah 2008 and this year's Western Australian representatives actually arrived by road with a vintage van ;D ;D ;D............ Much laughter and relaxation and meeting others of the vintage van fraternity............. (notice the excitement on the face of the self-appointed President of the Royal Society for the Preservation of Bondwood as he is photographed with the proud owners of fobbergross and bauxite vintage vans ;D ;D ;D ;D.................. After an enjoyable sojourn at Munmorah, (thanks all those who attended for their friendship) "Lady Madonna's" journey continued.........however, our journey north towards Kurri Kurri and beyond was interupted by this little incident....the demise of a 40 year old rim ....... Not to be beaten, we continued on our journey to Dungog, home of that great cricketer, Dougie Walters Via Gloucester towards Taree......... and finally across the great Manning River at Taree........... I think this is enough for one post..... Daggsey

Hey Daggsey, all we've seen on Lady Madonna's travels is really boring stuff , pubs, peoples paddocks & backyards, old shut down garages and car dealers, delapitated old caravans laying around, cemetries, churches, mountain racetracks etc etc etc When are we going to see the REALLY EXCITING stuff, like the Sydney Harbour Bridge , the Opera House , the dog on the tucker box ....... and all those famous landmarks and sites ......then your posts wouldn't be ......OH ......SUCH A YAWN ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D and what about the aiports .....you cd take some pics of Virgins for me ;D ;D ;D

Cobber........ Don't seem to have had any problems with bureaucracy....we have purchased a great book called "Camps 4" which recommends all the free camps and low budget caravan parks around Australia....we had a couple of other caravan & camping books, but this one seems to be the most comprehensive and is the bible of a lot of grey nomads. The only downfall of free camping is the lack of hot water (showers), but usually there are toilets, (generally long-drops). Mr T........ I am sorry that you are bored with photos of the various sights we are finding.......I thought that I would leave the Opera Houses, Harbour Bridges etc to those who take package flights or bus tours ;D ;D ;D.......I'd hate to steal their dreams ;D ;D. As for Virgins, I have found them to be very thin on the ground......I'll just have to be more vigilant ;D ;D. Will & Lyn.......... I understand what you're saying about the joy of filling up at a service station......it means you have actually seen something in between ;D ;D. I cannot understand the rationale of people driving $100,000 plus rigs and complaining about the price of fuel (and we have certainly come across a lot them).........when you suggest if they downsize their $80,000 caravans, the look on their face is as if you had slit their throat I know our $3000 caravan is not for everyone, but I also know if you were to sell your $80,000 van and got a $30,000 van, simple arithmetics tells you that you have an awful lot of money left over for fuel. When I hear people like this complaining about the price of fuel, I wonder why they even left home in the first place . It's like the people who have $300,000 mortgages because they have to have a flash house and then complain about interest rates rising......maybe I've missed something in all this. Daggsey

Yo... I notice gas has gone up 2 cents a litre today at the local servo. I have been buying it there for the past 2 years at 69.9 /per litre. Might be the start of the upward spiral to catch up with petrol. $248 on gas from Newy to MT Gambier... 1600Ks or 1000 Miles.. not too shabby for a 186 towing a van. Cheapest was Geelong at 60.9 per litre, dearest was Gundagai twin servos at 88.9 per litre . As Will has stated , Gas can be scarce , so ideally dual fuel is the way to go if you cant carry large ammounts of gas. Daggsey... you seem to have a good eye for shots of old bridges and scenery. Keep it coming mate. We are all along for the ride and enjoy your roving reports......especially when we are stuck at home/work dreaming of the next trip away in our vans... live the dream you pair. Reddo

Hi Scrooge & Daisy, I sorta did & didn't miss your point........I wasn't sure if your reference to "gas", meant gas or gas ;D ;D ;D (being that you are going to own an Airstream and the Yanks refer to petrol as "gas" ;D ;D). I had originally thought of putting Effacy onto gas and probably would have done so except for one thing.......it is all very well for the government to be handing out money for gas conversions (I took up the opportunity with the Brougham), but there is no government guarantee that every town or outback village has a gas outlet. Most of the grey nomads that bought diesel vehicles because it is more economical than petrol are now complaining about the price of diesel. Regardless of all that, my point was that we are still seeing Oz and as far as we are concerned, the price of fuel (gas, petrol or diesel) is a necessary evil to achieve that outcome........the alternative is to sit home and not do anything and wait for the price of whatever fuel you use to come down in price.......it ain't going to happen. Cheers biggy ears ;D ;D ;D Daggsey

Hey Scrooge McBaldy ;D ;D, I've come up with a plan........I'll open a Trust Account and all you dudes getting a free ride with Lady Madonna's and Luvshacks Travels Round Oz can make donations by direct credit from the savings you're making. Whatever's left over can subsidise one flight on Virgin and the accommodation of attendees at the next Vintage Van Nationals (we'll fly back from Rio for that, I promise ;D ;D ;D ;D). Not only that, you'll all be saving more when Mr Dudd introduces Foodwatch to compliment Fool,(sorry,) Fuelwatch!!!!! BREAKING NEWS!!!All is not lost!!! Mr Dudd is going to ask the Saudis to produce more oil!!! How simple a solution is that!!!! (What's that you say Mr Carrot??.......the environment???........can't quite hear you Mr Carrot???.......still can't hear you Mr Carrot, can you speak up a bit??.....helping "working families"........oh, that's what you were saying!!. For a minute there, I thought you'd given me the wong answer ) Hey Atog, somebody must have voted for them (I think I just hijacked my own thread !!!!....that's lower than an Iguana's belly ;D ;D) I'd better get Lady Madonna's wheels turning again before the Grand Poobah sees all this ;D ;D Daggsey

Hi Atog,
Whilst we have had a couple of laughs & a bit of banter over the last few posts on this thread at our current federal government's expense, I think it is dangerous territory to have a go at those who excercised their democratic right when they voted. I would hate to think that anyone on the forum has been offended by comments about why they might have voted a particular way. I am not a forum moderator, but would respectfully ask that you modify your last post.
All that aside, thanks for supporting our trip and we will keep the photos happening as we head north.
Daggsey
