I am pleased to announce that Geoff (firefighter) is going to take over the administrator role for an indefinate period of time.
Geoff is long time and well respected member, and I'm sure you agree is well qualified for the role.
As you know, for some time now I've wanted a break from running the forum, and Geoff has kindly offered to take the reins.
The administrator runs the forum, with the help of 3 moderators,...... and has the final say in any matters .....the boss ;D
The forum has its own admin discussion board, where matters are discussed, ie any troublesome members, decisions about what should, and what should not go on the forum .....etc etc .....these issues are discussed via the admin board, just as members do on all the other boards. The buck stops at the administrator ....he has the final call.
The administrator can also appoint moderators, and change a moderator's profile back to a normal member.
The administrator makes announcements about forum changes, and change of forum guidelines, .......the moderators and administrator will discuss these issues, and the administrator will announce the outcomes.
The administrator can also modify your profile, for example, if you have an inappropriate or offensive avatar, or signature, the administrator can change, or delete it.
The administrator can also turn the forum pink ;D ;D
I wish Geoff well in his new role, and thank the moderating team for the support that they have given me,
Mark

Unfortunately, it has been necessary today for 'admin' to ban a member.
The member copy & pasted a personal message onto this public forum.
The Meriam Dictionary defination of the word "personal" is as such:
1: of, relating to, or affecting a particular person : private , individual <personal ambition> <personal financial gain> 2 a: done in person without the intervention of another ; also : proceeding from a single person b: carried on between individuals directly <a personal interview> 3: relating to the person or body
In the banned members post, he copied & pasted the senders personal message onto the forum, then publicly stated that the sender had assaulted him.
This is a breach of the senders privacy.
As the Proboards forum rules state:
"You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of ANY law".

It’s timely to look back at the origins of this forum, and reflect on what the objective was in 2004, and what it is now. In August 2002, Mark’s new website "vintagecaravans.com" was uploaded onto the ‘world wide web’. The purpose was for Mark to share his hobby with others via the relatively new technology, the internet .It was a first in so far as being the first Australian website on the subject of old caravans. Mark’s influence for the idea came from frequently visiting the American website “vintage vacations”. The original text was written by Mark, and all original pictures were scanned from prints of pics that had been taken specifically for the website (with a non digital camera). These was then handed to professional website designers. By mid 2004, the vintagecaravans.com website had been running for nearly two years. Meanwhile, enthusiasts from all over Australia were emailing Mark with photos and stories of their old car / caravan combinations. The problem was, he couldn’t share them with anyone else. Not being able to show these on his website caused much frustration, all he could do was chat to these people, reply to their emails, and talk about their caravans / projects, and discuss the caravans on the actual website (Joker2 etc). Current forum member “Don Ricardo” was one such person, who sent Mark a very detailed email about his Don caravan. Each time a change to the website was needed to include a new section with fresh pics, he had to pay the website designers a premium to do it. Their business was building web pages, and, of course they charged for their services. Mark regularly viewed the “vintagecaravans.com” website stats (website hits) and says it was really interesting watching the daily No of hits slowly but surely increase from the date the website started in August 2002. It was fascinating, the increase in statistics (website hits) after only two years was huge, ……… yes, there was potentially a lot of interest in old caravans. There had to be a way, to share stories & pics from other people without the high cost of paying web designers. In 2003 the FE FC Holden club of WA was formed, Mark was one of the clubs early members. The combined FE FC Holdens of Australia had a great discussion forum, which Mark joined. This planted the seed ……. Mark knew this was the way to go with his website, but not being computer savvy, had absolutely no idea how to set up a forum. A couple of emails to Ret, the I.T. guy who set up the FE FC Holden forum, really confused him, the computer jargon and terminology was far superior to what Mark knew. So, over the next couple of months Mark perused the "computer" services section of the local community newspapers, and eventually found the services of a young uni student who was advertising computer services. Mark employed him to set up the proboards forum , which Ditzy (Jenni) launched on the 25th July 2004 with the first ever post “welcome”. That post is now permanently located in the 2004 to 2007 General discussion section. The rest of the story unfolds in front of you via the forum via a number of our old posts & pics which still survive. And the forum’s objective remains the same today, as it was back then. Admin

Please note the following forum changes have taken place during the forum closure:
Hundred of old posts have been deleted, many of them were Ebay links.
“Reddo’s Corner” has been replaced with the “whatever” section, where non V V related topics can be discussed. Please note, posts will be deleted from this section after 30 days.
A new sub board has been set up in the “for sale” section specifically for Ebay links. This has been done to make it easier for the moderators to clean up the “for sale” section. Ebay links will be deleted at the end of an Ebay auction.
Don Ricardo has kindly offered to assist Kris B and will moderate across all boards. .
A couple of long term members are no longer members. The “forum closure” thread revealed a couple of members who proposed to start their own V V website and forum. We thank them for their input over the past years, and wish them well with their endeavours, however their membership of this forum has been inadvertently relinquished in order to protect against use of the vintagecaravans.com member database to rally in support of their cause.
Guests have been disabled from making posts accross all boards.
New members require approval from admin prior to having their membership activated.
The General Discussion section 2004 to 2007 has been locked, disabling any further posts.
A 'refresher' thread for the proboards "terms of use" has been posted, and needs your cooperation via a reply.
Thank you for your helps & supports ....

Will, just had a look at your member account status, and all looks OK ......your account is activated.
The only thing admin can do is to delete your membership, allowing you to re-register your username. Admin can re-instate your post count as well.
Can't offer you an explanation as to why this as happened if nothing at your end has changed ......ie: computer, password, email address etc.

Hello Mark, have enjoyed your web site of vintage vans, I have a van and here are some pictures. Dont know what brand it is or if it is homemade. Would you know what brand? The people that I brought it from got it from I beleive from the original owners who told them it was about a 1948 model. It has a full wooden frame with the only steel being the axels, draw bar and angle iron along bolted to the main beams for the springs. I purchased it in April 2004. Had to replace the coupling and axel and fitted hydraulic brakes. Fitted Holden HT pattern which suits 14" wheels. It weighes 1020kg Full bondwoood van with one peice annex ( including wooden poles) It is 14' long and 6' 6" wide. The table folds down to make a bed and has a day nighter at the rear. 2,12 volt lights and 3 seperate 240volt lights Have fitted trailer lights at rear to get it registered. I think it had a kero stove as there is instructions for one in cuboard, when I got the van it has a meters stove/oven. Still works but heavy. I tow it with a 1962 phase3 Vanguard six ( I do have a Vanguard spacemaster in the shed like the one towing joker). Have used it for displays and holidays. Did a week long car tour in 2005 towing it approx 1500 km with wife and 4 kids, highlite was towing across Mt Hotham (Victorian alps) We were on holidays at Warnambool Vic. and met two couples heading home from Mt Gambier with 1960s Sunliners from Newcastle wife liked these vans and said we should sell our and get a Sunliner. Are Sunliners readly available and how much are they worth. We come from 30km from Geelong Victoria. Regard Shane
