Al,
thats a very poor wrap up of the "you tube" link... indeed
For the benefit of those whose computers won't access "you tube"
..........
The "you tube" link has 10 different tips on forum behaviour, of which I'll just briefly touch on a few......
One is called "flame wars", whereby a thread can turn to an argument between two members or more, and neither will back down, both must have the last say in the matter, as was the case the other night between two of our most vocal members, neither were going to back down. The "tipped behaviour" when this occurs .... is simply for one member to ignore the other member
.
Another of the tips relates to post count whereby some members seem to think that the value of their forum input is determined by the no of posts that they do, the more posts, the more valuable to the forum the members is
......not necessarily so, its not the No of posts one does, but the value of their input in their posts. We have quite a number of members who don't input alot by way of posts, but when they do post, they add alot of value to the forum. Trodler was one such member, and its a dam shame we lost him .......I'm still not exactly sure why
Retro1 is another.
When I saw last Monday that one member had posted 10 posts in one day, I immediately thought of the you tube link, and bought the link to the top of the General discussion section.
It is fact that we have a number of members who are reluctant to post on this forum in fear that they may say something that they'll get intimidated or humiliated about ......in other words, they "
cop a spray". ......I'm not going to mention member names here, but as I say .... it is fact
......
Another "you tube" link tip relates to poor spelling, and the "you tube" link says that its normally teenagers who will type this way, coz its considered cool
, and that the adults just have to deal with it, because obviously teenagers need to have their input on a forum too. Having said that, they're ain't no nuthin' wrong with some good 'ol Aussie slang ;D ;D
Another tip that amused me was "respect the administrators of a forum", its their forum, you are a guest on their forum, and the administrators can do whatever they bloody well like" .......mmmm ........interesting
;D .....I'm not a believer in that mentality .....the forum is for the benefit and enjoyment of all members, and administrators need to make the forum as informative, fair and enjoyable as they can
......not "just do what they bloody well like"
There are other tips on the link, including offensive material (that we're dealing with on another thread) but those quoted here relate directly to some recent forum issues.
