just checked the vintage caravans mail box and have received the following email from reddo: As everyone has commented on the forum he was an unsung hero when it come to organising the Vintage Van Nats and ensuring that things ran smoothly during the events. I have lots of fond memories of chatting with him both on the phone and at the Nats over the years. The look on his face when he collected the old 1928 Eugowra van was priceless....A grin from ear to ear with plans to marry it up to his 28 Chev. A dedicated Chev lover and Roadhaven enthusiast.
He leaves behind a big gap to fill in both the moderator duties on www.vintagecaravans.com and organiser role for the Nationals. I hope someone with at least half his ability and skills can be found to carry on the good work.
R.I.P Geoff.

Sad news this morning with the passing of one of the forum’s most enthusiastic and active members, Firefighter. Many of us know Geoff through the moderating of this forum on my behalf, and his organising of the vintagecaravans Nationals events. Firefighter (Geoff) and Gaye were at the forefront of organising the vintage caravans Nationals in Mildura 2010, Cowra 2012, Brokern Hill 2014 and last year in South West Rocks NSW. Many of us have enjoyed and benefited from these great events and would agree that firefighter’s people and organisational skills made these events so well known and successful. Geoff also moderated this forum fairly, and enthusiastically assisted and encouraged new and existing members with their passion of vintage caravans. Geoff indeed lived up to his forum name "firefighter" by putting out many personality driven "fires" that broke out on this forum Geoff also is well known in classic car circles in Victoria and will be greatly missed by many people. Condolences to Gaye and family. RIP Geoff, Mark Taylor Founder: vintagecaravans.com

sad news indeed.
JBJ (Dennis) was one of this forum's greatest contributors, and long term moderator.
His enthusiasm for vintage caravans and the cars and hot rods that tow them was second to none. We enjoyed his many projects shared on this forum, and his company on many occasions. And his eagerness to assist others with their queries via this forum was always appreciated by many members.
He was loyal to this forum, and "flew the flag" for us at many events.
And his famous signoffs with reference to "fun"
It is fun It's not much fun at the moment Its all (mostly) fun But it's still all fun It's still fun It still is nearly always fun
JBJ - to know you was ALWAYS fun
RIP ol' mate

In May 2014 we relaxed our policy on vintage caravans being used for commercial purposes, and even created a thread on them: vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/13542/commercial-touring-caravans-built-modifiedWhilst we still don't support the butchering of a vintage caravan for commercial use, we acknowledge that they exist and are becoming evermore popular. And as rightfully pointed out, it is preferable to have a paddock wreck back on the road and being admired even in its new form of a coffee van, than not to be back on the road at all! vintagecaravans.com would rather see a restored toaster being towed behind a Zephyr on the road attending one of our V V events, rather than being a Barista's office, but so be it, people are free to do what they choose with their vintage caravan, and we get that! It is no longer taboo to discuss vinatge caravans for commercial use on this forum Mark

"vintagecaravans.com" Nationals event is held bi-annually around April - May, and where possible incorporate Anzac Day & the Easter break.
The objective of the vintage caravans Nationals is to bring together forum members to a central meeting point and get to put a face to a forum username.
At the designated time of the Nationals event, the "vintagecaravans.com" forum will be used exclusively to promote the Nationals event, and two weeks either side of the event.
The forum will also be used to promote tours from each state to and from the event.

Hi Jennison, I simply cannot understand why you won't phone phone me, I have never come down hard on you.
You are the grandson of one of the legends of the vintage caravanning world, and bare his name. Your enthusiasm and assistance with step by step tracing the history of your grandfather's achievements has contributed greatly to the historical relevance of this forum. You are one of our most respected members.
Last we met (Adelaide February 2013 at the Grand Parade) we were friendly and amicable. Please do tell me what has changed your attitude towards myself?
As a forum owner, I am not going to devulge my plans on an open forum. In the past, others have taken my ideas and started their own very similar forums. Why would I devulge my plans to other forum owners? I have openly invited any & every member of this forum to phone me and I will openly discuss my plans, in fact I have already discussed with several members. My phone No has been placed on this forum several times over the past couple of months.
If you carefully read my post of 18th May whereby I announced a change of moderators, I have honoured every part of that announcement by making changes I planned, but not changing the everday operation of the forum. With the 10th anniversary of our forum now over (did you get your cake!), I will be requesting volunteers for modertors. Franklin1 is moderating our Technical section and Don R (as always) is moderating the DHL section.
AS for donations requested back in 2011 (to which you are referring), they were to enable the transfer of the DHL section to the vc.com website. Every dollar raised was paid to a computer company in Perth to download every word, photo and diagram from DHL section on this forum to a disc in preparation for uploading to the main website. I still have the receipt from "P C Madness" for the lengthy & time consuming work they did, and I still have a list of the donations made. The completed expensive CD was handed to Don Ricardo in November 2011 when I flew to Melbourne to attend the Bendigo swap.
I never have asked for donations to keep the website and forum viable, these minimal costs have been paid via small profits from calender, shirt sales etc.
As for Reddo, he clearly had an "anti nats sentiment" happening (as many members have bought to my attention), with his plans to grow his Autumn tours, which were planned at exactly the same time as the vc.com Nationals. As the owner of this forum, I made the choice to focus our forum exclusively on our Nationals events.
For years Reddo (by his own admission) has been pushing the patience of the moderators with his antics. Everybody is aware of that fact.
As for his being banned?.... His choice….! He placed a post on this forum stating that a new project he his starting can be followed on another forum, and placed a link to the other forum. I phoned him twice to discuss, but didn't get to speak to him. I edited his post and placed a ban on his membership until further discussion. I subsequently received an email to the "mark@vintagecaravans.com" email box saying not to bother calling him again, and telling me to "stick my forum".
Reddo will not be returning to this forum.
Jennison …….I hope you take note of these points, (call me to discuss further if you wish), and continue to be the valuable member of this fantastic forum....... The times I have met you have been pleasant, not to mention our very similar interests (long live the Caprice!)
Think not so much of Reddo, but what we have here, and what I started.
Incidently, the forum statistics of last few weeks have been excellent!

Hi everyone, there has been a lot of negativity towards HAT HEAD being the venue for the 2016 Nats. I've been receiving personal messages and phone calls mostly from the guys that attended the South West Rocks event at the weekend. And yes, we have been listening, and the venue will change. It's imperative that we are happy campers at the Nats It is not too late to change the venue, we have plenty of time ......... like 21 months! The guys from "Time to Roam Magazine" did a lot to negotiate the event, not so much the actual caravan park (Hat Head), but the support of the town and "The Macleay Valley Coastal Holiday Park Group". Their support was to be a lot more than just a caravan park, with the town of Kempsey getting behind our event (like Cowra ..... and unlike Broken Hill). The Macleay Group have some very good connections with the Kempsey Shire Council. Anyway, the points raised by some of our members are very valid, and I appreciate their feedback. So, an alternate venue has been suggested in South West Rocks, which is being considered. I spoke to Phil yesterday from TTR about the concerns, and they 100% support doing what is necessary in order to make the event a good one. They will be promoting the event via their mag. All those who have registered their interest in the event so far will be recorded including requests for dogs. We have always been "pet friendly" at our events and will continue to do so........ In fact myself & Jenni were the first to bring a dog to the inaugural Nats in Morgan SA in 2006, the dog was actually flown from Perth to Adelaide (smart dog!) We do however wish to remain close to Kempsey, because there are some good things planned ...........so stay tuned folks! Mark

Members may have noticed a couple of changes in our Technical section during the past few days.
Forum member Franklin1 (Al) has taken on the job of moderating our technical section. Al regularly contributes technical advise, and has put his hand up to moderate and re-organise the technical section.
Franklin1 (Al) will not be a general forum moderator, but a moderator as is Don Ricardo for our Down History Lane section.
Thanks Al for volunteering, I'm confident we will see some worthy changes in the all important Technical Section of our forum,
Mark

The forum is undergoing a change of the moderator team.
Effective Monday 19th May, all moderating positions will be vacant.
The change is necessary to be in line with our new Proboards forum, the emphasis of social media in today’s society, the need to now pay for certain features of the forum and the importance to steer vintagecaravans.com and it’s forum in a new direction.
The vintage caravan movement is now huge, and much bigger than “vintagecaravans.com” and its forum. If we are to survive and remain an interesting and fun forum, some changes are necessary.
As far as the everyday operation of the forum is concerned, not much will change, in fact any change will be aimed at making it a better and more interesting and fun place to visit and participate .
New blood with fresh ideas and a drive to improve things is where we are headed.
A major issue that will be addressed is our frustration with photo hosting websites, there has to be a better easier way to upload photos, and that we will persue.
It is timely to thank our moderating team for the excellent work they have done. These guys have excelled themselves, and will still be a big part of what we do.
FIREFIGHTER. Geoff came on board as the head of our moderating team (Administrator) in 2009, and has been at the helm for the most successful three National events we have held. His negotiations with caravan parks, sponsors, and his tireless work with members has been exceptional. His patience, fairness and ability to get things done is well known and appreciated by all members .It’s largely a thankless job being a forum Administrator, but Geoff has never complained and has just got on with the job and task at hand. Geoff, I thank you and hope that you will remain an active member of our forum.
DON RICARDO. Richard has been a moderator for many years and during this time has built the DOWN HISTORY LANE section into the most informative and accurate record of pre 1980 Australian caravans on the internet. Richard is our historian, and works tirelessly to research and unravel the history and mystery of Australia’s early caravan industry. Richard has also been a very fair and welcoming moderator. He is always there to answer and help new and existing members with their enquiries. Richard will remain with us and continue his fantastic work on DHL, and will be there to assist new and existing members, but will no longer be involved with day to day moderation of the forum.
CONTI. Geoff I’ve know for many years and he came on board as a moderator a few years ago. He has been our technical man, and main marketing man and assisted many members with their technical issues (loading photos etc) and at the same time assisting me to sell our merchandise. Thank you Geoff, and I’m sure you will remain a valued member of our forum.
URKEL65. Steve has been a moderator for a couple of years now, and has been there to support us in the day to day running of the forum. He also assisted with the organisation of our recent Broken Hill Nationals. Thank you Steve, and I hope that you too will remain an active member of our forum. So stay tuned folks as things progress over the following weeks.

PRE-1970’S CARAVANSThe primary focus of this forum is AUSTRALIAN VINTAGE CARAVANS, defined as pre-1970 manufactured or homemade caravans and teardrop caravans. We are passionate about preserving and restoring old caravans, campers and camping trailers. FORUM BEHAVIOURVINTAGECARAVANS.COM is a family website, and all contributors are asked to be mindful of this at all times. Further information about acceptable forum behaviour can be found in the Vintage Caravans Forum Terms of UseSexist, racist or homophobic posts are NOT ACCEPTABLE and will be removed or edited as appropriate. TOW CARSDiscussion about the tow cars that we use to tow our vintage caravans IS WELCOME. However, while we acknowledge some people use modern vehicles to tow their vintage caravans, discussion about cars should be limited to matching period vehicles (to our caravans). We define a suitable tow car for a vintage caravan as a vehicle manufactured up to 1979. Cars built in 1980 or later are considered to be modern cars. At the same time, discussion of towing issues or difficulties involving vintage caravans and either period or modern cars is permitted. COLLECTABLES/MEMORABILIADiscussion about the collectables/memorabilia that we use in, or to decorate our vintage caravans is MOST WELCOME. You are also most welcome to discuss period caravan equipment. 4WD VEHICLESDiscussion about the virtues of modern four wheel drive vehicles compared to two wheel drive cars is NOT WELCOME. There are plenty of 4WD forums...unless of course its a pre-1980 Land Rover, Land Cruiser, or similar, and used to tow a vintage caravan. REPLICA & REPRODUCTION CARAVANSDiscussion about replica or reproduction caravans & teardrops is WELCOME, provided that they correctly REPLICATE a caravan or teardrop from the past, and NOT a person’s own interpretation of what they should look like. To be a REPLICA, they should be built from a design from the 1930's, 40's, 50's or 60's and be fitted with period mudguards, lights, fittings and fixtures etc, reproduction or original. Whether or not the replica/reproduction caravan or teardrop caravan/trailer/camper is on an original chassis is not considered to be relevant. Discussion, photos and links relating to modern interpretations of vintage teardrop caravans (such as REO caravans or similar) is NOT WELCOME MODIFICATION OF VINTAGE CARAVANS FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSESvintagecaravans.com does not support the modification of vintage caravans for commercial purposes, or for purposes other than what were originally intended by the manufacturer. Members who indicate an intention to modify a caravan in that way will receive an email, personal message or posting on the forum from the moderators explaining the forum policy on altering vans for commercial use. If you have a pre-1970 van that was built as a commercial van they are accepted on this forum. GAMES & COMPETITIONSGuessing games and competitions are WELCOME, but must be vintage caravan related and pre-authorised by the Administrator. Please email or PM the Administrator if you wish to start a guessing game or competition. OVERSEAS MEMBERS & GUESTSOverseas members & guests with an interest in vintage caravans are MOST WELCOME to join and participate in our discussions. We enjoy and encourage ALL overseas participation, photos & discussions. 1970’S CLASSIC CARAVANSA separate forum for post 1970's caravans (caravans manufactured between 1st January 1970 and 31st December 1979) which are referred to as "Classic Caravans", can be found by clicking clicking here. VALUING CARAVANSThe value of vintage caravans varies widely according to the age, scarcity, condition and desirability of the caravan in question. In the end, the value of a caravan depends on what one person is willing to pay another at a given time, based on their specific interests and preferences. For this reason we ARE NOT ABLE to assist in valuing caravans. SMS TEXT-SPEAKSince there is no need for expediency in your posts or responses, the moderators request that you do not use “sms text-speak” style abbreviations when posting on this forum. The use of sms text-speak may not be understood clearly and can cause misinterpretation or ambiguity. FORUM MEMBERSHIPNOTE: To maintain your membership, you must log on to the forum at least once every 6 months, otherwise your membership will be cancelled. You don’t have to post anything, just log in using your member name & password. You are always welcome to rejoin if we cancel you.
EBAYPosting links to VINTAGE CARAVAN RELATED items for sale on Ebay is ACCEPTABLE, but discussion of prices for Ebay items, or derogatory comments about the items or the sellers, are NOT ACCEPTABLE in any sections of the forum, and will be strictly policed by the moderators. The policy regarding Ebay prices and derogatory comments has been adopted because of problems on the forum in the past arising from such posts, and because of potential legal ramifications for both posters and the sponsor of the forum. Any links posted to items on Ebay should be directly related to Vintage Caravans or to caravanning prior to 1970. Links which in the opinion of the moderators do not meet this requirement will be deleted.

From willyn :
I would like to say simply I think Jeff is a fantastic choice as Administrator I have had my fair share of controversy on the site and have worked our way through it to this point in time
this site is a good site for people of all persuasion from bondwood to bauxite to fobbergrass from safety officers to naturopaths to bankers school teachers to hot rod builders Mark and Jenny have ridden the storm as many of us have and because we are only mere mortals we all have our shortcomings and the pressures of everyday life effect us in many different ways I think it is a good time to set aside any differences and move on to greener pastures for the vintage van site I would like to see all past members that have been offended by past posts or actions of any member sort out the differences that may have been causing and reset or rewind back to when the site began where we all had one thing in common mainly a good time with vintage caravans as the binding agent to anyone we may have personally offended we would like to apologise and move forward particularly cobber and Yvonne for reddos birthday bash at Mt gambier after partying late dennis and I are mates and we should all move forward in the same direction giving and taking caring and understanding about the role that Jeff has to carry out in his new capacity I was a critic of over moderating and the loss of the humour component and would like to see more spontanety ( laughs ) included again after saying that I think we all know the levels that are acceptable and the what is not acceptable Thanks to Mark for a brave decision to de stress his life and for Jennys contributions which were considerable in forming the talk back forum (original forum)thanks a lot for getting us here and now I think we should give Jeff and the moderators every consideration understanding that there tasks are to keep this site on an even keel without pay Hoping Kris and Col are contributing members again all in favour of moving forward say AYE!!!!
