Hi Banno, Yes I did dob Jacqui in, because it was Jacqui that suggested it and then Loretta and I joined in with suggestions of what we could go as. Rodnet, Glad to hear that you and Jeanette will be coming along. You don't have to phone and book (or even pay Banno $100), the fact that you have mentioned on this post that you will be attending is enough. Philou, I don't think after Lennox Head that anyone will ever think that you are shy!!!! Especially if you bring along the sherry. Phil shame about only getting one potato but just think of how much good that did for your figure (all 9ft 3inches of it) ;D ;D ;D Luv Di

Hi all, The caterers have come back to me with pricing and menus. They are available on 19th November, I have not paid a deposit as yet until we confirm that we are definitely using them or not. The following is based on a minimum of 80 people (I fully expect that we will exceed that number this year). As per last year if we go with the big buffet, the price will be held at $25 per adult, $12.50 for children 4-10years, under 4 years in free. The buffet includes:- Start with platters of cold nibbles (cheese, dips, kabana, crackers and vegetable sticks), served on platters to pick and nibble. Three spit roast meats - chicken, lamb and prime beef, served with gravy and condiments sauces to suit. Smoked ham platter Potatoes roasted in jackets with sour cream Roast Pumpkin Cauliflower Cheese Garden Caesar Salad Greek Salad with Feta Fresh Slaw salad Sultana Rice Salad Bread - French sticks and butter Desserts: Baked Apple Pie, Citrus Carrot Cake, Passionfruit Cheesecake & Orange & Poppy Seed Cake. (1 only per person). Tea and Coffee Now just answering a couple of questions that have already been posed on this thread. I think that the entrée platters were sufficient, bearing in mind that we had left over food given to us by the caterers at the end of the night. I think the issue with some people missing out was 1) that when we first arrived, we didn’t realise that the platters were in 2 areas towards the centre of the room not at the tables where we were sitting and 2) the platters were served exactly on time and not everyone arrived on time (as some had already saved their seats), so those that were a bit late then missed out on the platters. I think everyone on the whole was very happy with the main course (I’m sure you will correct me if I am wrong). Dessert. I didn’t get to have dessert, I was too busy with helping Santa and the kids that by the time I realised that dessert had been served there was only one left and I don’t like Mud Cake. Anyway I wasn’t bothered, coz I don’t really have a sweet tooth and was full enough already. I understand that a few people would like more than one dessert. I could be wrong but I’m presuming that would be the case mainly with the guys rather than the girls. The caterers normally charge $2.85 per dessert, but have quoted an additional $2.00 per dessert for anything extra than the 1 each already quoted above. If only a few people or say half the group would like an additional dessert, it will be almost impossible to coordinate the additional payment and coordinate who should have 2 or only 1. And we can’t penalise the whole group and make it $27 per head just for those that want a 2nd dessert. So I suppose the first step is to decide whether we really do need a 2nd dessert or not - remember that we did have left over food last year that we then served along with the griddle cakes at breakfast the next day. If there are only a few people that want a 2nd dessert perhaps a few of the ladies can bring along a cake, slice or fruit platter to satisfy any hunger pains that anyone still has. Anyway over to you. Luv Di

Gidday All, we need some comments to come in, so we can see which way to go. I love the Catering, however I don't mind bringing my own nibbles. That should start things.

Haven't been to a Canungra event yet so its a bit hard to comment on the catering of previous events - sounds like the go though and we will just go with the flow... Thanks to all those doing the organising! ;D

Hi all,
What boots said makes alot of sense, seems to me that last year the opinions were to make it an enjoyable, relaxing evening, so without the big cook and cleanup, catering was chosen.
Perhaps this year, after last years trial run, everyone will be more up-to-date with the methods of the caterers. For example: If each person catered for is alloted one piece of cake or one piece of potato as the case may be and if we are all made AWARE of this it should keep everyone happy. Theres always going to be someone at the end of the line and someone at the front, so if the front considers the end no problems.

Hi All, Pete and I are just happy to be coming along this year and we do think the catering is a fine idea. Too damn hot to be standing over a fire even if some (Pete) think it is fun???
We are happy to bring along nibbles or fruit platter. What about having some music for the main night or has anyone got the number of the bloke that has the race cars? Are we having Secret Santa this year? The way that worked was great. Thank you to the organisers of what we are sure will be a fantastic event!
Cheers Trish

Hi, We would like to take up the catering. Wondering is it an option to increase the overall price to $26, so that the serving sizes can be increased that little bit to keep a buffer (meats, deserts-always appear to be the shortfall).
Cheers Des and Kel

Hi All,
Banno, I think Cathie put her hand up to take bookings and set up an account - unless of course someone else wants to do it.
Before we start making any bookings and paying money, we need to comfirm exactly what we are doing.
It sounds as though the majority of people are happy to go with the caterers again. So it sounds as though that's decided. ;D ;D
Now as to what food - how much etc etc. Various people have mentioned being happy to knock up an extra dip, nibbles or dessert to bring along - if it's needed.
Except for one or two comments, I think on the whole that everyone was happy with what they had last year. We had leftover meat and salads etc. The only shortage appears to be desserts and potato. As Elona mentioned, "If each person catered for is alloted one piece of cake or one piece of potato as the case may be and if we are all made AWARE of this it should keep everyone happy. Theres always going to be someone at the end of the line and someone at the front, so if the front considers the end no problems"
We can stick with the $25 a head and anyone that thinks they will want to eat more, can bring along some extra nibbles/ dessert etc. for their table Or as suggested by Des & Kel we could bring the price up to $26 a head. That will give us roughly an additional $100 to purchase some additional desserts etc from the local bakery. The caterers don't have another buffet menu for $30, so if we pay $30 a head we would have between $400 and $500 left over to buy additional food and I think that's a bit of overkill.
So I reckon it's either $25 a head and bring anything extra for your table if you want it.
Or
$26 a head and purchase some extra desserts extra with the additional $100 float.
What do you all think people - which would be your choice?
Thanks Di

Hi Di
Yes we're happy about $25/head & bring extras/nibbles if you want it for your table. I'd like to see tables with kids fed first as kids have smaller stomachs than the rest of us & find it hard to wait!
yes I'm still happy to collect the money, if & when everyone seems to be happy with the catering ideas, & have decided that's what we all want to do. For security reasons, probably think way to go is for people to PM me that you want to deposit money & I'll PM people back the bank a/c details. people can also pay me the cash at Flanagans this weekend & I'll take a book to keep payment record

Hi All,
Ok sounds as though you are happy to go with the $25 per adult option and bring any extra nibblies/dessert if you want them.
So I have made the booking with the cateres and paid the $100 deposit required.
As Cathie (Smiles) mentioned she is happy to collect the monies.
$25 per adult, $12.50 for children 4-10years, under 4 years is free.
Regards Di

Hi,
The Event is at the Canungra Showgrounds. Heaps of space, & a fair amount of power outlets. Reasonably good amenities block, & a pretty fair swimming hole in the creek.
In the past, the individual bookings were paid for on arrival, to the site manager. Basically I believe that when the grounds are booked each year, the numbers are not a problem. In the past I believe Dosse used to book, but I noticed that Banno seems to have booked for this year.
Events like all of the previously organised ones here have been organised by some person or another, by their choice.
This Forum is only a means of communicating with one another, not a governing body, & not in charge of anything. People attending events have never had to be members of this Forum, or really even have a vintage van. Wanting to attend & enjoy the company has been the prime concern to most of us.

Hi Tanya
Canungra is a really lovely spot, just an old fashioned Showgrounds near a great creek with some lovely swimming holes. Powered areas are up the top near the place where we have the Xmas dinner. Some powered areas are still available closer to the trees for shade, but there are whole areas that are unpowered closer to the creek. Just great big grassy mown areas, no defite sites or anything. So no dramas re space! pay the manager on arrival.
Cheers Cathie
