Did you know that in 1911, in Charlotte Street, Crows Nest, there was a Commercial Hotel, an Empire Hall, a Queensland National Bank, and some shops, all side by side?? And did you know that in May 1949, they all burnt down?? Interesting, huh? But if you thought that was the biggest load of piffle you've ever seen on a caravan forum, well here's some more piffle that will out-piffle the piffle above... Here's a fella in 1938 checking his map to see where Crows Nest is... And here's a woman stepping into a caravan in 1940. She's wondering if she's dressed properly for the Crows Nest weather... Then there's this family about to set off on their holiday in 1956. They are hoping there's plenty of parking when they get to Crows Nest... Interesting....ay!? [with thanks to the State Library of Queensland - Picture Queensland...and to International Piffle Day]

G'day Franklin1. Interesting enough 'Piffle' , the photo of the "Here's a fella in 1938 checking his map to see where Crows Nest is...".... is of special interest, looks like a very short "A" frame on the front of the van, reminds me of Kaznadams 'Lil Hampton', you'd have to be careful reversing or turning corners ;D ST

Hi Phil Not sure on that part of the road. There is bitumen road from Nerang to Beaudesert but don't know about Wonglepong. Love the photos Al. Wonder where that van ended up. You don't see many big vans being restored now.
I let the park know today that there will be 34 of us for Saturday nights dinner (forgot to tell them to have two plates for Dosse though) See you at Crows Nest

Thanks for the photos SE Qld'ers. A good range of vans there, although looking at Bryden's photos there seemed to be a lot of Olympics there (not that there's anything wrong with that...). There's a residential area in Melbourne called Olympic Village (the site of the '56 Olympic village). Seems to me that the SEQ get togethers should adopt that name! Looks like you all had a great time, although I'm a bit concerned about Banno... Did he get a whole lot of fibreglass fibres down his shirt and have to rip his clothes off, or wot?? OK - what happens on tour, stays on tour... ;D ;D ;D Thanks again for the pics. Don Ricardo

G'day All, We arrived home yesterday after our two-week journey up to Crows Nest and back. Another 2400kms added to the Millard trip-meter. Our sincere thanks for the warm welcome from all those we managed to catch up with. It certainly is a lot better being able to put a face to a 'faceless' computer name! ;D ;D Special thanks to "Team banno" for the griddle cakes on Sunday morning. After our second helping, my partner and I had to duck down to Toowoomba hospital to have our stomachs pumped... ...but that was only so we could come back and have a third and fourth helping! ;D ;D I'm a bit disappointed that banno didn't do the cooking in his 'budgie smugglers', although I do understand that having both maple syrup and budgie smugglers with your griddle cakes is asking for a little too much. We stayed an extra night after the rest of you left. That proved rather fortunate because the Park management invited us to a special one-off "Boxing Day in July" dinner on the Sunday evening. Seems they found a whole pot of pumpkin soup at the back of the fridge that was missing for the Saturday night dinner. Some of us were struggling to knock back our sixth bowl of soup on Sunday night! The only interesting photo I can add to the great ones posted already, is this one from just south of Crows Nest... Funnily enough, when we looked down that road we couldn't see any other Millards ...but then we didn't see any crows in Crows Nest either, so we figured you southern Queenslanders just liked pullin' our legs a bit. Thanks again for having us up your way. We'd certainly be keen to catch up with you again sometime in the future. cheers, Al.
