Hi Lynn,
We're OK with the caterers. The shed we use has a very good commercial kitchen in place, so that should make it easier.

Dear Lyn & Ob, Sounds like a plan. Caterers will make a change. But whatever is decided is fine with me. If we end up doing it ourselves again i'll muck in. Regards Di

Des and l would like to come if Des' work permits, had a lovely time last year. Agree with the weather comment, however this year we'll do the lovely trees instead of the oval if it is just too hot again. Any date suits us. We have two children, who loved the cars, vans, and waterholes. Des and Kel

Hi All We'll go along with the crowd if everyone wants to have catering, but we really loved the camp oven cooking & were looking forward to being more involved in the "action" next time & learning how to do it. In fact we got so thrilled about it, I bought an old camp oven with legs at the local junk shop.
However, I can see that some people end up doing all the work (we didn't like to elbow our way in as newbies last year at Canungra) & some people are very generous with contributions to the cook-in. So we'd definitely like to keep the camp oven cook-in going, maybe at more wintery events. Wadeville was great (won't forget Trevor keeping that fire going through the night), & a few people at Crownest felt it was a really great "guy thing" to do. So maybe doing the damper/camp oven thing at canungra is a good idea along with trailling catering. We'll bring wood too.

G'day All I rang Pat ( caretaker) at Canungra today and asked about the caterers that they have used in the past. The bowls club used a Goldcoast company called Spits & Pieces. Here is the link for you to look at: www.spitsnpieces.com/pages/spits.htmlLet us know what you think....no work...sounds good to me. regards, dosse

Hey Dosse,, Just looked at the catering site,,there is a variety of different menu around $25.00,, you would spend that on a roast alone. And how great to just be able to sit back and be waitered on. Sounds good to us. ;D

Hey Obe and Lyn. Sounds like its getting TOO hard. I reckon a big part of camping is cooking the meals. We are quite happy to help with a group cooking thing like last year .Seemed to work well and was a great meal. Just my opinion. Cheers John

Hi Lyn ..........surely these caterers don't expect the full amount up front? ..........maybe ask what percentage deposit they require to secure our business?.... ...........then collect that amount and pay them to book us in for our date.... .....would be a physical impossibility to ascertain exact numbers and and pay full amount proir to the event ...........As John says ....if it all gets too hard , I'm sure everyone will be happy to revert back to our old way of self catering with the camp ovens...........we'd do a better feed anyhow!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ....and Pete is coming back from WA to help organise/direct us with the camp oven stuff........ . ....don't stress , girl !!!.........what will be, will be........... . Cheers , Clyde.

Hi Lyn Don't stress out if the catering thing gets too hard. We're happy with the camp oven cooking same as previous years. I don't think anyone can carve the meat as good as Clyde and Grantham is where all the good vegies are. Either way we go, we will all have fun Neil

Hi Lyn,
I think what started out as a great idea has hit the wall. One of the greatest things our group has always had going for it is the willingness for everyone to get involved. Some like me sit back & help if I'm needed. Others love to dig in & do as much as they can, loving every minute of it.
I think we should accept that caterers arent really the answer for us at this stage.
I always worried how our casual approach would work with caterers, who need everything defined to do their job & make a profit.
Boots & I thank you for trying to make it easier for the hard working bunch, but I really think they are happy to keep being the hard working bunch deep down, so dont worry too much about the reality of commercial catering. It was a great thought.
Maybe I have to help a bit more this time, if I'm really needed.
JBJ
