Murray, The floor looks great. Where did you end up getting the tiles? I gave up looking after they told me the ones that I had chosen were not available in Australia (despite being advertised as the Australian range). They said they could get them from overseas, but only if I ordered a pallet load!!! Melani Mel, www.carpetcompany.com.au/This company does commercial flooring in Hobart. They keep a limited supply of "left-over" tiles stored upstairs. OH&S won't allow you up there to look so they need to bring them down to show you. You just need to take what is available . The storeman can be helpful if he isn't too busy at the time !(mostly early mornings) I did want some pink ones to do a few rows but there were none. There is a lot of patience/skill/time( or substitute "luck") in trying to get them all cut to identical size . There is a lot of wastage by keeping the pattern in each tile going in the one direction. I needed to go back 3 times , the final time I needed one tile after a mis-cut on the final one. Needless to say there are a few gaps in mine but we are very happy with the overall effect . Cheers Murray

I made an appointment, dragged the kids in on a freezing cold day in the school holidays. The salesman was not very interested in helping me and told me that they didn't have anything that would be suitable in their remnants. So I went back to Giffards, who were very helpful. However I gave up after the third lot of tiles I picked were not available in Australia. So I bought a remnant roll of black and white chequerboard for $60-. It will do for a year or two and will then replace it when I find something else.

Finally registration day !!! As ready as can be . The last few days have been windy so have a few minor uncompleted jobs (don't we all) . The gasfitter came last week and completed installation of fridge and stove. The rules and regulations have changed in the last 2 years as no longer required a stop tap on the appliances ?. He did hope it was the last caravan he was ever asked to do - too restrictive and fiddly No tradie crack here but I was assured he is qualified A big thank you to Jason from J&J Plumbing and Gasfitting (just for turning up )
Did have the chance to paint underneath with ormond bitumen paint. I had visited a cousin recently ,who when I showed an interest in his use of the product, thrust all his remaining cans into my hand with great haste as if it were explosive material. Upon use I understand that once you use it you don't want to use it again. It dripped on the ground in big blobs. I had it in my hair and all over my overalls and all the pieces of pine bark mulch stuck to me. (Yes I know akeepsake ,pink gloves - but they were free at stocktake time at work a few years back) At last the light at the end of the tunnel . This must be what it's like working in a coal mine and returning to the surface Well " George" is all scrubbed up and ready to go
It has been 23 months since purchase Don't know how many hours work ....some money A few more grey hairs (with blobs of bituminous paint) Nothing's gonna stop him now Cheers Murray

Finished!! Well done. George looks great.
Now you can start looking for the next project!!
In the meantime, if you are bored, I have a van that could do with a coat of bitumen paint.

Caravan registration southern tassie style (....or how to lose a day in your life) Hook up caravan night before to check lights
All lights working except brake lights .....bugger They were all sorted out before towbar was replaced. 8am playing with fuses ,no lights on Prado, blow 10amp fuses when van connected , quick check of wiring and scratch head (must get the selsun out) 8.30 take van to motor mechanics who extended drawbar so see if they can sort......tail light on van shorting out ,earth not connected under van etc In Tassie the van needs to be taken to closest inspectors via directest route so off I go by 9.15 Straight to the weighbridge by 9.20 (930 kg) Arrive on time for 9.30 appointment , leave car and van there and visit relies with the wife. Return 11.30 to failed rego . Need more reflectors on side as drawbar was lengthened , need number H64 ground off new drawbar, need statutory declaration signed at transport regarding old drawbar . Of course !! I must have missed this piece of paperwork. Big decisions needed, me thinks ...........go out to lunch at 12 noon. 2pm buy reflectors Get dropped back off at 2.15 and chat . 2.30 Disconnect van and drive to transport to get stat. dec. signed . 2.45 Returned with stat.dec. They phone transport regarding vin number which wasn't on old drawbar but needs to be on new drawbar They need to send an email to transport . Wait for reply to email regarding number (isn't technology wonderful) 3 .15 Reply comes back with numbers and letters to be stamped on new drawbar....... paperwork sorted . 3.30 back to transport to complete rego Form not signed by agent 3.45 back to agent to get form signed 4 pm back to transport to complete rego (cut and paste is wonderful ) 4.15 numbers stamped and van hooked up and departure Speedy drive home before they change their mind All for this. Yes ,I did explore all the possibilities

Well done on your registration. I do however feel your pain.
We also had a frustrating time getting our van registered in Hobart. After making a few enquiries, we were told to take our van to a inspection agent and were recommended City Automotive in Mornington. After calling them and explaining that we had a old van that we had just purchased and needed advice about what needed to be done to get it registered. They told us to bring it in, they would do the inspection for $100-. They would write a list of what needed to be done, we could take the van away and bring it back once completed, with nothing further to pay. Too easy we thought!!! The only problem is that they failed to tell us that the work needed to be completed within 30 days and we were about to go on holidays for two weeks. As expected the van failed inspection due to us needing an electrical compliance, faulty indicators and no reflectors. We had the work completed by day 28 but couldn't take it in until the Monday which was day 31. So they charged us another $100- as we didn't have it back to them within 30 days!!!! This time it passed the inspection. We still had the old drawbar then and I am sure it didn't have a VIN no, stamped on it, as we didn't know the VIN no back then (I have since found it). On our registration form they wrote the licence plate no. where you were supposed to write the VIN no. Now that we have a new drawbar, I guess I should look at getting it stamped.

Melani, I did the gas and electrical certification and they didn't need either of them The reflectors dropped off this morning in the wind .....must get some more. ....and finally if you're new drawbar gets stolen the numbers will identify it ....like akeepsake said we need to move to the North-West coast all the inspectors up there are probably all related to him (i'll just leave it at that !!! - otherwise he may put something in my coffee next week ) white , no sugar andrew cheers

"Tour du Nord" Have just returned from 6 day Inaugural "shake- down " tour Well certainly a few shaken pieces coming off ......a few loose screws/ nails to be refixed (should be called "shake - off " tour ) Had some trouble with one of the indicators on the van which was eventually rectified ....just didn't turn right, easy Drove up the highway and stopped for lunch and realised the brakes were overheating.... and they hadn't been used New electric brakes , isn't technology wonderful ? Stayed 3 nights at Longford Caravan Park and the RACT dropped in and adjusted brakes...same as normal padded brakes Had to back off a few times over the next few days as I kept playing with the controller Went to Day on the Green at Josef Chromy vineyards ..excellent Longford ducks photobombing Drove on and stayed a few nights at West Ulverstone CP I think akeepsake had warned them about my reversing and new extended drawbar as they had cleared the park Summer rush hour in tassie Akeepsake ,Raelee and myself let loose and shared a few Weston's wagon wheels and bubbly Cadbury chocolate with a cuppa tea and had discussions on the 2018 nationals
Returned home with car full of cuttlefish , raspberries (some fortified ,some chocolate coated . This helps preserve a little longer I am told !! ) ,strawberries, cherries , cheese and fresh meat !!! The only unexpected incident was one of the corner window rubbers partially unravelling and dangling down behind. I have written a ( new !! )list of jobs to do before the next trip Cheers Murray

Gee Murray, It looks pretty tight in West Ulverstone. Glad you could find somewhere to squeeze George in. Hope the neighbours didn't disturb you? It can be a real pain when the people next door are up all night playing cards... When they shout 'Snap' it wakes you up every time! Don Ricardo

Cheers from fellow Harris owner Every little bit helped. Visited another 14 footer (that makes 3 of us) in Nerang, Qld to get more inspiration Needed to pimp it up a little inside to make it stand out from the crowd and make more livable in the 20 21st century He behaved well on his trip to the nationals , just one small crack to repair in the sheeting , or is that a laughter line Cheers Murray
