I needed to cheat (since my father-in-law isn't a signwriter) cheers Murray Muzz your getting a bit mixed up ( must be old age!) my brother in law is a signwriter, my father-in-law is a plumber. But just to confuse you further my father was in fact a signwriter...... If you wasn't confused before ......! Anyway love the logo . Is that a copy of the original or your own take on it ? Reckon you should get a clear static sticker that says "George the " to stick above it for when you attend your next event . Who knows you may take out judges choice again Well done!

So what are classified as vintage cars in 1964 ? From Rainsfords collectable cars "So, how does one recognize a car as a classic? Well, it all depends on the particular state, car club, and the insurance company. For example, if you live in Queensland, your car has to be at least 30 years of age in order to be registered as a classic car. On the other hand, classic car dealers such as 'justauto.com.au' state that a classic car is any car between 27-65 years of age which was manufactured between 1948 to 1986 (n.b. in respect to 2013). According to them, all cars manufactured pre 1948 are considered pre-war & vintage. The 'NRMA Insurance' company states that a classic car is any car used for recreational purposes and more than 15 years old. The 'RACQ Insurance' sets this age at 30. So, the best course of action is to join a particular car club and use their definition." Found concrete "filler" under the corner windows where the timber had rotted away ? cheers Murray

Slowly but surely. Have been spending hours or should that be days, sanding , filling , preping, painting, filling again, sanding again. I am using semigloss acrylic paint on interior of van so needed a perfect flat surface. Under direct light you can still see the slight imperfections so you need to squint or leave your glasses somewhere and it's PERFECT I can always do a bit more filling but it will never be perfect. Here is the clock ( a present ) that inspired the colour scheme - the wood -grain laminex doors needed to go Built a top opening desk between the 2 bunks as the top 2 drawers had been removed to make room for a double bed small drink shelf at the front Used same laminex as "new" kitchen table.
The "new" table - we decided the canary yellow replacement may have been a bit too bright
Back to the sanding , filling , preping, painting ,filling again, sanding again and repainting. Cheers Murray

A year since checked out your project. We eventually pulled our whole van apart as structure was so compromised. Didn't have skills to do in situ job like you've done. You've done great work. Inspired us to stick at it. Annie n Peter

Thought I should get into it - King Fisher is beginning to catch up with his new reno Prince Fisher will be driving soon and following along behind Bessie Looking great guys. I don't think you really have to worry too much about us catching up... Although we just have to fill a couple of gaps before painting and we should be done Certainly when the prince can drive it will be great for him to already have a van to come too Is it my imagination or does that color on the cupboards look a little familiar? Don't worry we love that color a lot too.

Have completed a few little jobs /modifications over winter Impossible to find an original door lock , so purchased a secondhand viscount door for $50 and used the lock . There had been a screen door lock installed which has been kept. Slightly off center but can't be to fussy
Installed car stereo and television as discretely as possible If you squint a real lot you hardly notice them Can be view from dining or beds An electric car aerial installed in cupboard led lighting above kitchen installed
The gauntlet has been thrown down King Fisher .....get with the program . Nice colour ...huh cheers Murray

Murray I am really starting to wonder but the nail polish has confirmed my suspicions ........that you are a very resourceful man! I hope you used slot headed screws to fasten the bracket for that old 60s period Tele! I really think you should get your roadworthy done up here as from other experiences down South it seems that they are waaaay to tough and are applying regulations that are unnecessary out of ignorance and using the " butt covering" clause! To give you an example on the electrical side if you have un modified factory electrical wiring fitted with single pole socket outlets (power points) and single pole light switches pre dating the wiring standards that introduced mandatory use of double pole switches and power points ( which from memory was 1965/6) then these are still legal and don't need to be replaced to comply as long as they are sound and the insulation resistance test passes! I know there has been much debate on the forum about this and there is much ambiguity about the whole thing but I have seen too many vans lose there original tow hitches ,wheels etc,etc unnecessarily due to folk law an innuendo!! The great thing about nail polish though Murray is it can always be changed to suit the colour of your dress?

getting lots completed tiling took a few days to get sorted cut 300x300 tiles with drop saw into 3- 95 x 190 tiles with pattern in 1 direction. Needed less than 4 square metres but had to buy 74 tiles (7.4 sq metres)A wastage factor of 40-45% with all the fiddly edge bits and one or 2 mistakes (note the last row on the right below the wardrobe - i zigged instead of zagged) All fixed now - no wonder people drink table installed and corner protectors . First set of curtains fitted. starting to look pretty schmick the row has been fixed
cheers for now Murray

An emotional day - sensitive as I am George gone to doctors for check -up
Georges undercarriage exposed on national forum for first time , even the dangly bits After a check of his lower "important" bits it was decided a bit of day surgery was needed Had noticed a bit of sagging in the undercarriage due to a wild and reckless youth . You can see the distinctive bow in the drawbar . This had been overlooked until lying underneath one day poking around. Then once more were exposed realised more surgery needed . Some broken springs present(too much "rocking and rolling ") , brakes unoperational (didn't know when to stop the partying) so decided to do total transplant and install new electric brakes and springs. As the van has been "pimped" it was assumed that this surgery would enhance the whole vv experience and not alienate the purists. No need for flowers .....just donate money Now will need electric brake controller on prado Will keep you all updated on recovery process Cheers Murray

Dear Murray, as always, enjoying your updates and narrative. My dear (and recently late) Aunt had one of these Harris Vans - exactly the same. We are still screaming along on our little Harris Van project. Not far from end - but the end is acting like a mirage - but I HAVE to have it finished for Pt Elliot - before Christmas. Sorted out rear frames and structures this evening, which then dictate cushion templates and starting this section of the work. When at Pt Elliot, with my feet up, I will master putting up some pictures. Love the chevron lino and colour scheme. Annie and Pete

Couldn't wait this morning and went to the mechanics right on early visiting hours George has nice new shiny" dangly bits " now Nasty bruising however and some swelling
The guys have decided to give Jayco a run for their money and extended the drawbar somewhat . should be heaps of room for 2 deckchairs and the weber once we have a rustic timber platform Or I could be conservative and have a tool box
Cheers Murray

Murray, The floor looks great. Where did you end up getting the tiles? I gave up looking after they told me the ones that I had chosen were not available in Australia (despite being advertised as the Australian range). They said they could get them from overseas, but only if I ordered a pallet load!!!
