Finally got around to picking up my next project. We did have to wait till it warmed up till 30C, however. George is 14 and a half foot and has been painted extensively........urrrr He was purchased in the dark !!! We rushed in to save him after he was advertised on gumtree for a few short hours. He is supposedly 1984 on the rego papers, but 1969 according to the owner. I have researched on the forum and the closest we can find is 1963 model ( Forum member "pcw") of which this has more than a few similarities. Maybe other members will have some input hitch-up time. Has been modified to double from 2 singles - soon to be changed back note that drawers between the beds have been used in kitchen bench extension front window has been replaced with timber framed perspex taste of things to come !! Cheers Murray

Moved the refrigerator(1980's addition) forward and noticed a "filled in" large round hole in the floor . I realise iceboxes have just a normal size drain hose. Picture taken through external hatch. Any ideas as to what would have previously been there ? Cheers Murray

Be careful Murray that looks about the size of a toilet opening! Would it have had a ice chest originally?

Couldn't wait any longer . After sitting in the van for the last 2 weeks gently stripping paint / vinyl and soaking up the ambiance ( which smelt slightly musty) decided to bite the bullet and have a deeper scratch around. Found the original drawer framework under the double bed extension Stripped back some of the lining and found large sections of rot then began taking out one of the corner windows - plenty of mastic there (most definitely had shares in the company) there was hardly any timber there !!!!!!!!! The screws almost fell out The corner of the van was only held together with the mastic The front window had been replaced with timber framed perspex . Hope to replace with with aluminum framed window The cupboards doors had been cut down to make room for a microwave - hope to fit some sliding doors later Back to it cheers Murray

Hi Murray' That Patched up hole under the fridge you posted a while back....... I bought home a aluminium caravanpark deluxe van last year . it had a kero fridge. The van had a hole in the floor behind the fridge so that you could reach up through the hole with a naked flame and "Ignite" the fuel. Also had a whole above the fridge where a flue pipe extend through the roof about 100mm to allow the heat to escape.
Regards Reddo

It is vented outside at the rear above the fridge area. An electric/gas fridge has been put there but the power cord is put through the sheeting near the seat and up into a powerpoint so I realised an electric one hadn't been there originally. There is an external door at the back of the fridge so I presume they were filled from the back ? Cheers Murray

Needed to get started . Weather has been exceptional in southern tassie so could procrastinate no longer. Have renos lined up for next month so am putting some effort in . Took out corner windows and began replacing all the rotted timber ...and boy there is a lot . Some places just have dust left Will be on the lookout for an original front window soon ,just decided to frame around the timber/perspex replacement. All fitting together white nicely. Am panel beating the dents out of the paneling as I go Cheers Murray

Andrew, liked your idea and decided to replace all the original wood in the front of van The lining boards were distorted from moisture and parts of the ply were rotten. JOY Cheers Murray
