Thanks,
I'll post a pix of a better combo as soon as I get a chance to fire up my hotrod on the weekend. I've been so busy on the van that I've only started it once since Wintersun, & its due for rego as well in a week, so I got to get it out & clean it.
Lifes too short, & there isnt enough hours in the day as you get older.
BUT, NEVER WEAKEN

Hi All, Made great progress today Forced myself to take a day off & got darren to help with a few jobs. First we fitted the new annex sailtrack. Then we decided to put the annex up & see how it fitted. A quick trip to a disposal store & we got a stack of pegs, poles & ropes. Annex is FANTASTIC. Seeing it sat in a bag unopened for a while after I bought the van, I think I was real lucky to get such a good complete one. I dont think its ever been used. Darren put new clips on to hold the skirt. We then thought, we're on a roll, lets have a go at getting the hatch together & fitted. Hey presto, it works. Not really finished enough to need it yet, but what the hell. Darren sold me a couple of badges, which really suit the van I think. Jailbarjuice

Hi JBJ. Looks cool. Only thing that i can see that might present a problem is that the closest pole to the van is higher than the sail track rail. If it rains the water will shed back towards the van instead of off the outer edge of the annexe Jut make sure you have a good bead of silicon under the rail so that any water that does head back that way doesnt end up running down the side of the van wall inside the annex..... Just my 2 bobs worth mate. Annexes certainly are a bonus especuially if you pick them up in the sale price of the van. It looks great. will look even better once the van gets the heavy flake paint treatment reddo

Hi Reddo,
Understand your point. A minor problem I have is that I dont want to put silicon on anything until its been final painted.
So I just gotta live with the potential water leaks until around christmas when I hope to put final paint on.
The annex fits so well, that I'm surprised that the maker didnt think of that problem. But whatever happens, its a pretty well built annex.

Well done Dennis, The metal flack paint is going to be awesome - fully sick even - the van is looking great and the annex very appealing very practical. I am impressed with the hatch mechanism. Is it original ? did you fabricate ?-or buy a stock item unit ?
Regards, Gavan

Hi Gavan,
The hatch mechanism I have is pretty much original for the first model Sunliners.
But the later model ones like yours seem to be different, from what little I,ve seen.
Maybe Humpty or Spyder can help you with pix of what yours should look like.
just got the van inspected for rego, & stamped the new chassis numbers on it.
Hopefully have my number plates mid arvo.

Hi Ray,
The white is only primer, & too boring for final paint, now thats sporting a number plate & rego label.
Look out world, here we come.

(PS still got a fair bit of finishing to do, buts it'll be used regularly from now on. We've missed not having a van on the road.)

Hi All, well its late Tuesday night, with 2 1/2 days left before our Sunliners maiden trip, albeit only 1 hour up the road to Tweed Heads. Boots is madly sewing curtains. I couldn't make them for anything. We had the flooring laid today. The guy did a brilliant job. Then I found that the added thickness of flooring caused our underbed drawer's catches to go ballistic because of the flooring raising them. Oh well, a couple of padbolts will solve that problem. I made the trim bit at the door from a lump of extrusion, & even if I say so, I think my fitting of it is as good quality as the vinyl laying. The fridge sits in place at last. Also fitted the front seat back tonight. The hatch is pretty well sorted out, & hopefully the new rods of the catches will hold it shut. The rego label looks pretty cool, along with some vintage van stickers. Last night I fitted 3 side windows, with new rubbers & bits. Closed it all up pretty late, then came out this morning & found one window glass had cracked. I guess I made the hinged strut rod a bit short, & put too much pressure on the window. Well that repair can wait for a few weeks. Remade all the flyscreens by installing timber strips in the fibreglass frames held in place with bog, then sanded level. I then stapled aluminium fly screen to the timber, then stapled a strip of 3 ply over the screen to the timber in the frame. When you instal it in the van it works pretty good. I think my Sunliner stickers, copied from Humpty's clock, look pretty right. Lots still to do, but we'll be at Tweed Heads on Friday arvo. Jailbarjuice

My god, its a miracle.. Today for some reason i can finally see pictures through my works server!! Probably not a good thing for my employer! JBJ, The Sunliner speaks for itself. It looks absolutely fantastic and you should be extremely pleased with it. You and Boots have a brand new, old van that will serve your future trips extremely well! Great work Dennis, cant wait to see it in the flesh on the tour and share a few hard earned beers with you. Cheers J-Rod

My Congratulations Dennis,
I hope you have many, many fun days in the van- you have been an inspiration to my wife and I since we become involved with Vintage Caravans.com.au
I trust that the completion does not take you away from us and your input into the many conversations that abound within this site.
I know we will some day catchup on the long road .
ENJOY!
Swellwillys.

G'day JBJ,
The Sunliner looks ever more awesome each step of the way. Love the internal colour scheme and the choice of vinyl.
I was particularly struck by the cupboard doors and handles. The handles are so period. You've quite possibly explained along the way and I've missed it, but what are the cupboard doors made of? What provides the 'dappled' finish, which I reckon gives a terrific look?

hi All, A couple more pix before the big first outing tomorrow. We finally got to put the custom made mattress in, & thank god it fitted. I was having nightmares about a $900 mattress not fitting. We also got the curtains in, & the last of the 23 cupboard doors fitted. Tomorrow I need to check the right hand brake assembly, as Boots heard a scraping noise when I reversed it into the carport last. You know this forum never fails to amaze me. So many people draw inspiration from what I see as a relatively simple process of rebuilding something. So many also provide inspiration to me, & most others. Take the paint on our cupboard doors ( They are 9mm MDF, as none of the original doors I had were much good) . If we hadn't had a chance to look at Steve & Maryannes ( Kingy) van when they stopped in at our place on the way to Wintersun recently, we would never have known of the Wattyl pearl paint. Then Maryanne sent us a sample of a laminate that we managed to find. Boots played around with many types of finishes on the doors. Believe me, 23 doors take up a lot of space spread around your house while they are being painted. She coordinate & chose all the colours, & we were lucky to find an end of a roll of vinyl in Ballina for $70. Got it laid by a perfectionist for a trade of work. Leigh ( minibago fame) sent me a stack of old style screws that I couldn't find anywhere, & then wouldn't accept any payment. Kaybee supplied the old stock handles at a very cheap price. Spyder's helped with Perspex windows, & a step I still havent got fitted. The list of helpers goes on & on. As I say, this forum is full of really geniune people that love old vans, & are happy to help one another. It doesnt really matter wether anyone likes what the other person is doing, as long as we bite our tongue occassionly when we get upset, & let the fun keep happening. Hi All, Ok reddo, the door has only been washed with bleach from as found state at this time. It fits OK, & it aint gonna rust. I've had a couple of days off, so I'm getting back into it for the East Coast Spring Tour & Cold Dale. Started making a pattern for my spats. I've cut 3mm ply & pop rivetted it to the body. Then built it up using various layers to give me a spat that has a wheel opening in the right place for the tyre, unlike the factory Sunliner spat. Built both lower ends up to make the wheel shape follow a rib in the tyre. Then loaded it all up with my favourite product, then sanded the lot to a shape I saw in my mind. It's not quite finished yet, then I've gotta make the other side. Once they are both to the shape I'm happy with, I'll get a couple of moulds made, then get glass spats out of the moulds.Sorry about the blurry pix, but it was pretty late when I took them, & I get a bit unsteady late at night. hopefully have them on soon. Some more interior shots also. jailbarjuice.

Hiya Big fella I think i can help you with improvements to what already looks like a good spat design. May i suggest that you flatten the top and recess two 75mm circular depressions approx 50mm deep in the top of the flare. Bingo.. portable stubby holder / drinks stand for when friends such as mmmwaa drop into your annexe for happy hour . Sorry i cannot offer any improvements to the interior decor... it looks perfect ;D The door I have often looked at the fobergross sunliner door and thought how cool they would be converted to a "drawbridge style door."( Reddos shed of invention patent already applied for ) hinged at the bottom so that they fold down from the top to form an "attic ladder" grande entrance and red carpeted staircase leading up into the palacial surroundings. recessed step lights would give it that added ambience. Go on i bet ya can do it. Other alternative to the door. ..leave the door off , it will make it easier for you to make it up to bed after happy hour ;D ;D Now stop goofing of an get back out there and finish sanding "That favourite product" Sorry mate the nurse has had me on 100ml per hour drip concotion of red drink and bundy rum again.. whoo hoo!! Reddo .......from the mid south east side.

Hi All, A couple of (pretty poor quality )pix of my first spat nearly ready to get a mould taken. As you can see ( hopefully) Will, its a far cry from the shape of your Kennedy. its about 6" thick at one corner. I used about 15 layers of 1/8" ply to build the end corners. I think they will work out OK. I gotta buy a new camera. The one I'm using I paid about $950 for about 9 years ago, & its only 3.2 megapixel. The batteries are worn out, & it doesnt take good pix in the dark. We'll get a new one before our trip. The van goes to the upholsterer on Tuesday to get the front seats done, & hopefully I might get a chance to touch up some of the worst areas of bodywork before our trip. BUT it wont stop me if its not fully primed. After all not much can happen to unpainted fibreglass. It doesnt rust, rot or deteriorate ( in the short term) Jailbarjuice

;D Gidday Jailbar Yes mate I do see I can assure you I am not on a commission for the foam company but if need be you can purchase the product cut by a 150,000 laser machine out of a solid block in nearly any dimension or size the guard on my f1oo can be made into a mould simply and easily in short time as the high density foam is easily sanded yet has a high strength factor built in in fact you can stand on it or kick it around quite an amazing product especilly when hardcoated or you can glue the product together and widen it in the swipe of a glue brush and shape it any shape you want hope this is of interest as it is designed to follow hard to fit shapes like guards spats building mouldings etc Will
