Can anyone help me date this supermix? I was told it was from the 1920's, but I don't think so

Hi Mark, My info is not going to help you, and is mainly for interest only. Ebay item # 320144118816 seems to be the same as yours but no date is given in the description. Also the National Museum in Canberra has one in their collection, but again no date is given... www.nma.gov.au/advancedSearchResultsItemDetail.jsp?irn=112658 I'm no historian, but I wonder whether the technology was available in the 1920s to do multiple colour printing on the labels. Maybe if you search ebay for 1920s stuff it might give some clues about what product branding looked like. Without really knowing, your item seems a bit too sophisticated for the 1920s era. Looks more like it would fit in with Sunbeam-type appliances from the 40s/50s. Sorry I can't help more... cheers, Al.

G'day Mark, Interesting item you've got there. The base reminds me very much of a mixer my mother bought and used in the 1950's, although the glass bowl on yours looks not quite as 'modern' as hers. Looking at yours brings back the memories - and the taste - of the vanilla malteds she used to make with that mixer. There is an electric fix-it shop next to our office. The owner has a collection of mixers - dozens of them from all eras. I'll ask him if he can throw any light on yours. Don Ricardo

Mark,
I dropped into my electric fix-it friend with pictures of your Supermix today. I revise my estimate of how many mixers he has in his collection - I'd say it's at least 100 of all types, sizes and eras.
He had a couple of mixers very similar to yours, if not the same. He says it is quite hard dating them but said that he thought they're probably from the 50's rather than earlier. However, he has a friend who is more knowledgeable then him re dates and he is going to confer with him and get back to me. He said it will probably take a couple of weeks.
He also had a mixer the same as my mother's, which it turns out was also a Supermix (explains why your base looked so familiar). This one was a single speed only with a silver toggle switch and an on/off sign made out of metal and engraved in black. If I was guessing (which I am) I would think that the engraved metal on/off sign would pre-date your coloured sticker, but we'll see what my contact can come up with.
Regards,
Don Ricardo
