1938 advertisement for Rover caravans printed in the Launceston Examiner on 17 December 1938 (p 4):(Source: National Library of Australia nla.gov.au/nla.news-article52241363 ) Note that the advertisement was placed by the Tasmanian representative, suggesting that the vans were built somewhere other than the Apple Isle, but there is no indication of where. The Rover caravans referred to in the advertisement may or may not be of the same type as the second hand van referred to in the advert posted above by Franklin1. Reference to the 'Senior Lounge' suggests that Rover was already preparing a van for some of our V V'ers... Don Ricardo

Advertisement for Rover Caravans published in the Melbourne Argus on Wednesday, 23 November 1938 (page 19):(Source: National Library of Australia trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/12066918 ) Franklin1 first posted about Rover caravans in 2009, and we've recorded information about a Tasmanian representative (see above), but where Rover vans were built has been a bit of a mystery. All is revealed in the above advert and in numerous other advertisements in the pre-war years. The answer is Collingwood, Vic.

Hi all, Over time we have posted a few adverts published during World War II by pre-war caravan manufacturers announcing that they were ceasing production for the duration of the war, and some van manufacturing plants were turned over to the production of wartime supplies. However, Rover Caravans took a somewhat different slant in their advert published in the Melbourne Argus on Saturday, 14 March 1942 (page 8): (Source: National Library of Australia nla.gov.au/nla.news-article8237348 ) Note the wording: ATTENTION! Provide protection for family by purchasing Caravan for evacuation, 2 and 4 berth secondhand, sale...Now there's a sales pitch you don't see every day in advertisements from Australian caravan manufacturers! I'm not sure whether Rover's marketing strategy was successful or not, but it appears that the firm closed sometime during the war and didn't re-open. In any case we have no evidence of Rover caravans being built after 1945. The only Rover vans that were advertised after that point were second hand, like this advert for a 2-berth Rover printed in the Argus on Saturday, 8 November 1947 (page 18): (Source: National Library of Australia nla.gov.au/nla.news-article22518575 ) Don Ricardo
