Hi all, just got home with the Clipper from South Australia and I find myself in a bit of a dilemma. What am I going to call it? ?? My first thought was something that would go with Myrtle, the Sportsman Teardrop. I came up with Mildred seeing as Reddo had abandoned that in preference to Rosie. I have not yet asked Reddo his permission to steal his idea, and fearing reprocussions fron Reddotel Incorporated I have shelved that one for now. Next thought was Hilda, but Hilda Clipper just does not seem to run off the tongue that well. On the way home today a name just hit me out of the blue. How about Jack. You know, Jack the Clipper. It is, after all, a Ripper of a van Just thought I would run it by all of you before I decide something that will be it forever. Let me know what you think, even if you think I should shut up ;D ;D cheers, Leigh.

Hi Leigh, Looking at the SA Clipper's thread in the DHL section, the brochure suggests there was a nautical influence in the naming of this brand of van. Perhaps an abstract name relating to a nautical theme might be appropriate rather than a person's name as such. You might be familiar with cobber's van known as "Driftwood", a word which relates to the nautical area.
There are a number of websites that sell house name-plates which include suggestions for nautical names that can be used as house names. Some of the suggestions listed are:
Driftwood The Anchorage Jolly Roger Grasmere Loch Ness White Caps Seaspray Stillwater Lakeview C - Syde Waterwheel The C Syde By the C Clearbrook Seven Seas Rippleside Sea-breeze Riverlands Admiral’s Rest Bayview Whitecaps Hightide
Then you have female names that are related to nautical themes, such as Pearl, Lee, Pippy, Sandy, etc.
If none of this tickles your fancy, then "Jack the Clipper" has a nice ring to it ;D ;D
cheers, Al.

Remember Leigh, whatever you choose you're pretty well stuck with it. I wish I had come up with something more exotic for “Ol' 36” in the beginning, but it wouldn't be decent to change her name now. For the Clipper how about “ The Clipper Day Tripper” “The Restless Rambler” “The Weekend Wanderer” “The Clipper Day Tripper” “The Holiday Dreamer” “The Clipper Day Tripper”... (Say it three times quickly, it kind of gets to you ) Nothing wrong with “Jack The Clipper” either. Cobber.

Thanks for the suggestions one and all, there are some real gooduns there. Al, I like a few on your list but Rippleside seems to have a certain familiarity to the van. I did not notice the "ripples" in the sides of it till I had a good look when I picked it up Perhaps the "wavy" sides were part of the "nautical" theme :: I will post some photos and a name update asap. cheers, Leigh
