From Michelle: My husband Danny and I have recently acquired a 'Re-Lax' Caravan, which we in the process of restoring. I was wondering whether you have heard of this brand and whether you may have an old brochure? We have decided to call her 'Miss Virtue' after the friend who gave her to us. We are looking forward to our restoration project. We have a 1953 Vauxhall Velox (Valerie the Foxy Vauxy) and it will look fantastic towed behind her. I don't know much about the website discussion forum. Cheers Michelle From Mark: Maybe some words of encouragement from our members will convince Michelle to join us as a member .....we may even get to see pics of the restoration Mark

Hi Michelle and Danny,
Love the little van and also the Vauxhall. I have a teardrop and a Vauxhall Vagabond which we took to Darwin last year.
Where do you live?
I look forward to seeing the progress pics, it should be a fun exercise.
Cheers, Leigh.

Hi Michelle and Danny, Welcome to the forum. What a great little van you have there. I'm sure it will look great behind your Vauxhall Velox. One of the forum gurus "Franklin1" started up a section in Down History Lane recently in Re-Lax Caravans - so your timing is very good. If you click on this link it should take you to the information. vintagecaravans.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=2983If you decide to become a member (we are a great lot ;D ;D) you will be able to add photos etc of your van to the down history lane section. As well as post any information in other sections of the forum. If you have any questions re: the restoration of your van, alot of the guys on the forum are a mine of information and i'm sure would be able to help you. Regards Diane

Hi Michelle and Danny,
Congratulations on your purchase. Looks like you've got yourselves a great little van there. Do you know anything about it's history, roughly when it was made, etc?
We do hope that you join the forum and post pictures of your restoration work as it proceeds. As Diane (1954homemade) said you will find plenty of people willing to give advice...helpful advice ;D...if you need it along the way, and even more who will be happy to admire your work.
Unfortunately, we don't have all that much information on Re-Lax caravans at this stage - no brochures, etc - but info keeps turning up on the forum all the time, so it's worth logging in regularly to see what's here.
Funnily enough, there had only been a couple of references to Re-Lax caravans and no pictures on the forum up until a fortnight ago, and since then two people (including you) have told us about their Re-Lax vans. It often happens that way, so keep on checking out the forum.
Happy restoration!
Don Ricardo

Hi Michelle and Danny! We have the other RE-LAX van which is in Sydney.Where did your van originate from?I would be really interested to see some photos of the inside of your van.It looks like your van may be slightly earlier than our RE-LAX as ours has aluminium windows.Do you still have the red RE-LAX sign that goes on front of the van?Our van is going to a new owner shortly but if you need any close up shots of anything (incase you have something missing or broken)let me know and I will take some pics for you.Regards,goldenoldie.

Hi Michelle and Danny, what a great little van you have there. If this van is truly a Re-Lax van, then it is remarkably similar to an Atlantic caravan from the 1961 period. If you have a look at the information in our History section on Atlantic vans, via this thread... vintagecaravans.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=2037...then you will see that the Atlantic vans from the 1950s had a larger gap between the two front windows (say, 6 inch gap...??). But if you scroll down about three quarters of the way down the page, you will come across a copy from the 1961 edition of the "Caravan and Touring Manual" showing a model that looks very much like yours, with the windows very close together. It would be interesting to know what information you have that suggests it is a Re-Lax van. Either way, it will help us to expand on what we have about Re-Lax, or Atlantic, vans. cheers, Al.
