The guy that bought the 10foot bondy from me has scored the use of a van from his mother-in-law that was her late fathers. He sent the atached photos to me to post on the forum to see if anyone on the forum can identify it for him. Here is what he said in his email: Steve, got the caravan home that I was telling you about. The Mother-in-law will let us borrow it until I can get the Atlantic finished. It is a good little van, about 12 foot 6, but bloody heavy! Definately timber framed. My guess is about 62. Would like to post pics up on VV board for the experts to tell me what they think, but work internet security is blocking me from getting photobucket working. Would you mind posting it for me, I would really like to know more. I could not find any ID plates or dates, not even on the fridge which looks original. The gas stove says "Flavel Westbury". The van is called Pedigree - Palmvale Thanks, Jeff He will be towing it with a blown 350 powered 34 chevy tourer He is a new member on here, 34chev Any ideas out there in Vintage caravan land Santa28a

Looks like a late 60s Roma to me, I think they built lots of them for resale by distributors under other brands. Thats my thoughts anyway. Cheers, Gristy

I had a bit more of a look at the van last weekend, and the overhead cupboards and wall panelling don't look professionally done. Probably done by the old fella himself, so this will throw some off the scent. However having said that, the cupboard doors match the wardrobe doors. Maybe it's just all the panelling. Looking real close you can see the cuts arn't very straight and mistake cuts that have been glued back in again.
The back lounge slides out to a double bed and the tables goes down into a bed.
While I was scratching around I found 3 letters stamped in the chassi near the tow pull. I will have to write them down to see if anyone knows what they mean.
Keen to hear what the rest of you think. It's definately no 53 Atlantic, however the Atlantic is getting open heart surgery at the moment, and will be a year before it hits the road, so at least this little van gets me on the road with the rest of you!

Hi 34chev, I can readily date that grooved wall panelling product back to at least the mid 1980s, from a garage project I did back then. My old brain can't readily recollect that product being available much before that. Back then the product came in two qualities... a paper overlay bonded pattern, and a more expensive timber veneer bonded pattern. Your pictures show a different pattern at the front wall compared with that used in the back, so it certainly appears to be a home-based job. The second item is the upholstery on the cushions. From various vans I've checked out on ebay over time, it seems most major manufacturers had gone to cloth coverings, either one sided or both sided, from around the late 1970s onwards (particularly Viscount, whose range available in the late 1970s/early 1980s had lots of lime green / brown / orange decor!). Finally, the "boxy" shape of the cabin. The original designers of your van were obviously influenced by designs available in the market at that time, so who else was making vans that look like yours? Names like Paramount, Newlands, and Chesney come to mind when I see the shape like yours. These brand names were popular in the 1970s. So, I'm inclined to think your van hails from the early-to-mid 1970s, (but I also have a very good lawyer who will argue you've taken my words out of context if I'm wrong... ) Thoughts from others welcome... cheers, Al.

The windows in your van are Alfab brand and were used from 1966 until 1971 approx. We used them in our vans until early 1972 when wind out windows became the norm. The upholstery also is similar to what we had in our vans in the late sixties. My guess would be '68 or '69

Now we seem to be getting somewhere. Ii thought it would be 60's somewhere.
Interesting, I followed the link to Pedigree and their address is Springvale Rd Springvale South. So where I assumed "Springvale" was a model designation, it was actually a location.
Oh well - live and learn!

just an idea, I dated my van fairly accuratly from manufactue dates found on the fridge and stove data plates. these are often at the back of stoves or near the external controls on the fridges. mine were both manufactured in mid to late 1967 so allowing for shipment, fitting and sale times I dated the van as probably sold in early 1968.
Worth a look at.
