QUEST HISTORY: to be compiled
posted by cusso57, Apr 11, 2007: Hi all, We are new to these threads & am looking for some info on 1966 quest van that we have just purchased, all we know at this stage is that they we made here in Adelaide at Taperoo. It has a 1966 electricity trust sticker on front window so we are presuming it is that model.

1950s Quest caravan:(source: posted by Ditzy, Feb 16, 2005 on behalf of Ron59) ------------------------------------------------------------- Update on this van, from Jun 5, 2005... During the restoration process, Ron59 discovered the aluminium cladding was not original, and underneath was the original plywood skin... ------------------------------------------------------------- Further update from Dec 14, 2005... Photos showing the restored Quest caravan. Ron59 decided to put the aluminium cladding back on... Ron59 posted during the restoration: yes its an all timber frame, it looks like it started out as an original plywood van and then clad with aluminium at a later date. Why else would you go to the trouble of painting and striping the ply if you were gunna clad it with aluminium? Anyway the back and front windows leaked and rotted out all the timber frame and the ply from under the aluminium, so that all needs to be fixed and then the aluminium goes back on. I think its probably easier to polish the aluminium than sand and paint the ply.

1968 Quest "Trendsetter" caravan:(source: posted by pymie2, Feb 13, 2007, who wrote: Does anyone know what type of van this is or approx. what year it was made. This is another van for the collection, the husbands plan for the future travel. ...we like the shape & it's different. We have only seen one other van like this by chance, in Murray Bridge at a servo, it was white with a blue stripe. ...The lady who sold it to us bought it new about 50years ago from a caravan yard in Taperoo, she said it is a "Quest". ...It's a strange layout inside, a 16ft caravan with 2 singles & not much up front, the table can be put front or rear & the bench seat is very narrow. ...Our van's interior has been modified at some stage, we're just about to do a quick fix on a few items to use it for a short break. We have noticed the floor at the front has been repaired as well as the left rear has had a hit at some stage. The ''A'' frame seems to have been upgraded at some stage also.) --------------------------------------------------------- reply by rtcruiser: There's one very similar to this sitting in a front yard at North Gosford on the Central Coast. Not sure though because it's covered in crap. It's one of those real Steptoe and Sons houses. --------------------------------------------------------- reply by jailbarjuice: ... We saw a Quest at Morgan, in the yard of the guy that owned the houseboat we went on. It had moulded glass front, rear & I think roof panels, with I think alloy sides. The front & rear were moulded in the pattern of a diamond checkered shape. It was very similar in construction to a Chesney thats sitting in Lismore near us at present. Obviously they were an adventurous builder, as unusual vans & cars are generally too radical for the masses, & fold up fairly quickly. Any idea if any history is available on the company, or did everything go to the tip when they closed up like the Sunliner records & everything else did reasonably recently? ------------------------------------------------------- reply by boblor, Aug 11, 2007: Your van is called a "Trendsetter 68" by Quest. 15'6"x7' Price 1969 $1695, avail. in 4,5, or 6 berth - 7 models.

Internal photos of Woddaquest's 1967 Quest caravan posted by Quest76 on 22 March 2009:Woddaquest described his van as follows: "It is a Quest 10 or 11 footer they told me ,it has an alloy roof the front and sides are moulded fibre glass very thin in the same pattern as most other vans with alloy sides, it has Quest also moulded into the front and rear panels". The reason that the fibreglass is "...in the same pattern as most other vans with alloy sides..." is that Quest used aluminium cladding to make the moulds for the fibreglass. For more information about this caravan click hereThe following Quest with similar fibreglass cladding was on display at the Vintage Caravan Parade in Adelaide in February 2013: This photo shows the cladding in more detail, and clearly shows the imprint of the aluminium sheeting used for the moulds: Don Ricardo

I don't know if anyone is interested, but while recently passing through Borrika in rural SA, I noticed an old caravan behind the Institute hall. Upon further inspection I found it was a Quest Swagman, with some old rego papers inside which suggested it may be a 1975 model. It was just the aluminium shell but windows seemed intact, a bit of wood paneling and lights inside. If someone wishes for the remainder of the rego details regarding possibly the last owner, let me know. Regards, Bob.

Hi Quest,
Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on the acquisition of your caravan.
To post photos on the forum, you will need to do it via an online photo storage website, such as Photobucket (our recommended method) or Flickr. Unfortunately you can't use the 'Add Attachment' button - it doesn't operate on this forum. There are instructions on posting photos in the 'Forum Guidelines & Helpful Hints' section of the forum.
Once we've seen some photos of your van, hopefully we'll be able to give you an indication of its build date. However, we won't be able to help you much regarding value, because there is no real guide to values. In the case of vintage caravans, it all depends on what a buyer is willing to pay and what the seller is willing to accept, and there can be a number of factors that affect that.
In any case, let's start with the date of your van. As soon as you post some photos of your van we'll see what we can tell you.
Don Ricardo
