G'day All, Somebody has listed a heap of "barn find" caravans from the '60s, 70s, and 80s, available in a warehouse in Corio Vic. (Gumtree listing: www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/geelong/caravans/barn-find-caravans-range-of-vintage-vans-great-for-retro-food-van/1170535838 ) Out of the 10 photos in the listing, there are some interesting vans showing. 1. Could this one be a Country Club van?... 2. What is this van with the unusual 'cowling' appearance on the roof above the front windows?... This photo is another shot of the front of that same van, showing the towbar and coupling... 3. This photo shows the rear of the No.2 van, with similar roof style to the front... Who is our on-the-spot reporter for the Corio/Geelong area?? We need to cross for a live report for what is going on in this warehouse. cheers, Al. (ps. and you thought YOUR shed was full of 'crap'!! )

Hi Franklin1,
Some fascinating vans there, eh?
The first van sort of has the look of a Country Club, partly because of the 3-strand moulding used on the front and sides, which is 'very Country Club'. However, I think that may just be a coincidence. I can't find a photo of a Country Club which uses as much of the 3-strand moulding, or has it turning corners like this one, or that has front windows as enormous as this van. So I don't think it is a Country Club, but maybe it is...
The van in the last three photos is really intriguing. I can't work out what it is, and the ever knowledgeable Hughdeani is stumped as well (I asked him via Facebook). I'd love to know what the cowl is too. Is it a vent perhaps? And aren't the little side windows on the front of the van either side of the main window interesting?
While we're on this van, I think you'll find that the second of your photos also shows the front of the van, but from a slightly different angle and with some of the stuff moved from in front of it. The reflector on the corner makes you think that it's the rear, but if you look at the first photo, you'll see a similar reflector showing on the front. In addition if you look again at the second photo, (1) you can see the A-frame and coupling of the van in question, and (2) you'll see the same shaped dent in the bulkhead of the white van beside it. The dent is such an unusual shape that it would be very unlikely for it to be in the same place in both the front and rear bulkheads.
That then means that the last of your photos does show the rear of the van. You can just see the edge of the downward swooping flash in the last photo that's shown in the first of the three photos, and of course there is that cowl.
So no anwers on either van, but a couple of observations that may get us a step further.

G'day DonR, Of course, how silly of me! If I wasn't so distracted by the fancy-shmancy leather bag on the table in front, I would have noticed the drawbar and coupling next to the table! I've gone back and edited my post, so that others don't get confused with my misleading info... cheers, Al.

A quick reply, we spoke to the owner and we have been to see them. The owner of the "barn" is a secondhand dealer. Will fully reply once visitors leave after coffee.

Ok, so we went to visit the Barn Finds. The van in the first photo looks to be about a 16 footer. It has a porthole window just near the door. In very poor condition. Has a sloping back end. The floor needs replacing. Some of the interior walls and ceiling recladded in wall board. Would require a complete resto.
The second van has no identifiable marks. Both the 2nd hand dealer and ourselves have searched to no avail. Has major water damage internally. Externally, the roof has been peeled back and has a hole in it. The rear of the van where a number plate would go is rusted right through. The steel frame around the skirts crumbles in your hand from rust. Rust marks through the aluminium at floor level. The van is in very poor condition. Internally the ceiling is made of what looks like caneite. The cupboard doors are sliders that are made of the same material. We didnt look at the chassis but judging by the rest of the steel work it would need to be replaced. The Van was towed from a seaside location hence the major rust. The dealer towed It back and wasnt aware The roof was peeling off until alerted by others. Such A Shame. He is asking $5000 for It.

Hi Yve,
Great to have your report on the barn find caravans in Geelong, although it's a shame that they are both in poor condition.
Were you able to work out what the cowl was above the front and rear windows of the second van? Is it an air vent of some sort, or was it just a design flourish?

Sorry Richard. Didnt take notice if it, we loved the look but gutted when we saw how badly it had been treated. If it helps the sides were riveted panels. There was so much stuff around it, Rick had to climb on to some machinery to view the roof. The 2nd hand dealer had a stall at the Brougham Street Markets selling collectibles etc but the market has closed and he is selling out of this big shed. He had maybe 9 vans when we visited. All surrounded by what I call junk. He is a nice man to speak to, so he maybe able to answer any questions you or others have. IAN 0418526640

The first van is not a country club, it is a jennison pathfinder. Kaybees came across these early last year and contacted me.I called Aussie Ute and he went and had a first hand look at the pathfinder and other vans The pathfinder is very rough. The roof hatch is gone and it’s all sealed/boarded up. It’s the same size as aussieutes one with the dolly wheel...16’9”. The condition of the other vans varies but they all have one thing in common......the owner can see his retirement fund expanding big time and wants pretty big money for them, well over the top in his idea of their worth regards Jenno

Looks good in the photos. Pity he doesnt show the corrosion holes in the back and side of the van. We couldnt get a really good look at it as it was surrounded by junk. He has obviously cleaned the place up to allow better photos.

The person selling the vans is a second hand dealer and I was told most of the vans were found for removal on gumtree as he removes them and told me he could get a $1000 a week for movie props I first looked at the jennison but the condition was very poor he wanted $3500 for it then got wife to ring when Jenny saw them and now wants $4000 for the jennison (the first van )it wasn't worth what he wanted in the first place as it was a complete rebuild he is hoping to sell to make coffee van he also had a don in worse condition cheers cris
