This cabin door hook is from my Bondwood. As you can see from the picture, it is broken, also I am missing one from the other door. I am assuming after doing an internet search, that they no longer make them diamond shaped. I can only find square or oval. Any feedback would be appreciated.

G'day mel, The diamond-shaped latch is certainly a rare species, hey?? An example shows up here and here and here , but they are the only examples I could find. You might have to go with something a bit more "modern" but with a vintage touch, such as something like this one: Cabin door hook latchNote that if you do a Google search for 'door hook latch images' and the variation 'door latch hook images', you'll see different images in many cases. Perhaps play around with the words 'cabin, door, hook, latch' in various combinations, and see if you get different images showing up. Quite often these bits of hardware are known by different names, depending on who is doing the listing and where they are located. We often find this to be the case when searching for old bits and pieces. cheers, Al.

Great suggestions thanks.
Humpynvan - I was thinking I could try reshaping one, but am not convinced I will get the shape I am after.
Jimmyj - we don't have any architectural salvage yards in Tassie. We have tip shop, but the chances of finding something like that at tip shop are very slim.
Franklin1 - The examples you found could work. I could possibly modify one of those? I will further investigate.

Humpys idea is worth a go. May take a couple of goes but it will work. Even better if you make the whole set in stainless. Noone else will know but you. In the big picture even you will forget about it over time. Looking at your photo reminded me that I had to make a latch that holds the door shut. See it most days and don't even think about it being a remake. Food for thought. Bottom of this page if you are interested. vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/1473/atogs-68-olympic?page=3 Atog

As an alternative your original broken one can be repaired.
If you want to go down that path let me know.
Cheers,
Leigh.

Thanks Mustang, but I am determined to have diamond ones.
Leigh, the only problem is that I need another one for the other door.
There is a foundry in the UK that makes them. I am going to try a foundry here in Hobart to see if them can make me some, if not will probably get them for the UK.

Hi Mel.I have 2 pairs of quality 'old school' brass latches....small pair measure 90mm centre to centre....that is: the holes in the hanger section to the holes in the hook section.(the piece that yours shows broken). The second pair equally good quality measure 140mm centre to centre. However whilst yours are diamond shape, these ones are oval.Anyways, yours if you want them.I`m on west coast. gordo Maybe this might be of help also: Australias largest woodworking forum..... 'Woodworking Australia Woodwork Forums'.some 100k members...has numerous sub-forums including Foundry.Sign up for access. Also maybe check out Tafe locations that might do Foundry classes?

Hi Gordo, Thanks for the offer. I will pursue the foundry options at this stage, as I am very determined to replace them with the same diamond shape.
