Hi While in Bendigo at the weekend I came across & bought Franklin 12'6" van with bondwood sides Aluminium front/back/roof &towed it back to Melbourne. Are there any Franklin experts out there who could date the van Chassis No 763. All the cupboards have 763 on the inside. I will be giving the van a quick clean inside and out and will be heading off to SA with the van behind the '57 Chev to view the Bay to Birdwood Rally next week. ;D ;D ;D

G'day firefighter, My van is "claimed" to be the first van built in 1956 by Geoff Robinson, who went on to establish Franklin Caravans in Ballarat. Since I bought my van at Easter this year, I've been trying to hunt down information about the history of the Franklin Caravan business, without much success. Assuming it would take someone a year or so to establish a business, I'm guessing the first caravans with the "Franklin" name may have rolled out the factory from about 1957 onwards. There was a 1964 Franklin van for sale on this website recently. You could compare your van with this one to get an idea of approximate age of your van. See this thread: vintagecaravans.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=forsale2&action=display&thread=1156146236...or go back to the "For Sale / Wanted" section and look on Page 2 for "1964 Franklin for sale." Hope this helps, Cheers, Al.

Hi Al The '64 Franklin that was for sale and Earlee bought is the same shape as the one I bought. But lots of things are different inside and out I think mine is earlier than that one I went to Vic Roads yesterday to re register the van One interesting note was that the operator told me there were 10 caravans/trailers registered with the chassis no 763 She said that this was common for those years. And that 763 was probably the Franklin production no. Vic Roads gave me another no that I have to stamp on the draw bar Geoff
