I would appreciate if someone please provide me with a link to an aluminium extrusion company which makes j moulding the same or similar to j mould used on Viscount Ambassador caravans as per the photograph. I have already looked at the section regarding suppliers within this forum and also googled the topic to no avail. I would prefer a supplier in SA but if need to be transported from interstate then so be it. Attachment DeletedThank you.

Have you tried the aluminium angle bracket section in the big green shed? It's not really a J mould, but rather an L shaped bracket, with cuts made to take the bending. Carpet suppliers may also be another place to look.

G'day Bob, This is another classic case of trying to find the "best term" to describe the part you're looking for. Get six of us in a room, and one of us will call your part an "edge cover", another will call it an "edge mould(ing)", or an "edge trim" or an "aluminium nosing" or an "edging strip". No wonder we get grey hair, trying to track down the bit we're looking for!! I'd suggest you make contact with Darios caravans in Adelaide ( website ), and see if they know where you could start looking for stuff similar to what you've got. (Plus you'll find out what term they use for that product, which might help you to search for it). The other option is Barnes Caravans in Sydney (they've been in the game for decades, and are really helpful). This website shows that similar products are made in China, so you might get "encouragement" that you'll be able to find something that reasonably closely matches what you've got. This other website (click on Photo 2) shows that somebody, somewhere, is making aluminium edging with a ribbed profile, even if it isn't what you're looking for. cheers, Al.

Franklin1 is right, sometimes you never know what to call this stuff. The other thing I was thinking about overnight, is why not simply clean up what you've got with a wire brush drill attachment and steel wool? I know it's work, but would save you having to cut those notches too.

Thank you Franklin1 and Roehm3108 for your responses. Just for information, the photograph is of one of the many pieces I removed which stayed intact. I need a new piece to replace one which I wrecked in the process of removing it some time ago due to the silicone etc which the previous person had used. I did find a similar product on a website and titled for Viscount caravans, but can no longer find it. I will contact Dario caravans as I need to speak to them about re-doing my gas system. I contacted a number of plumbers/gas fitters in Adelaide and have advertised widely but they are not interested in the work. Two that expressed interested just messed me around and I wasn't prepared to use them. Thanks again. Late note - found the link for Viscount angle side mould- www.canterburycaravans.com.au/media/2684300/11-building.pdf

Yes, you are right despite them still advertising its availability. Obviously can't be bothered to update the catalogue. Camac advise me that they originally sourced the part from Barnes Caravans NSW so I have sent an email query to them and awaiting a response, but not expecting any good news.

We pulled a lot of it off our Valiant Donor van & used on a 66 Franklin. I know that's not a lot of help to you, (donor van long gone now) but may be one way of getting some. You can still get plain L mould or angle bracket from metal suppliers but that would mean replacing the whole lot.

Thanks to those that have provided input. I will wait for the response from Barnes Caravans and if there is no luck with them I will sort something else out.

Firstly, this subject has been covered before. Secondly, it's not 'J' mould - it's angle. Thirdly, it's tensile strength is rated at T1 which means it is soft & pliable whereas the Bunnings stuff is T6 which is high tensile, hard, and non pliable. Forthly it's no longer availble but Capral and Action Aluminium stock a very similar product called 'Caravan Angle' or 'Fluted Angle' which is 17.5mm x 11.1mm right angle T1 pliable moulding. I believe Capral have a store in SA. Hope this helps. Cheers

Just to throw a conundrum in the works. (Sorry to hijack your thread Bob) Does anyone know if you can still get this profile? It's sail track with a gutter above, all the one piece.

Thanks Brent, as with the previous suggestions, there are many places which supply angle moulds as you say. I would have preferred the style as I originally stated as it has the "ridges"(unknown correct terminology) which enables the top surface (and the side surface) to sit over any raised items such as screw heads, rivets or overlapping bits of panels.
Thanks Starburst, I have looked at multiple aluminium suppliers with various styles of extrusions and am looking at products provided by Capral and Action.
Shesgotthelook, hijack away. The topic of angle moulds might affect more people out there than what is realised. I might head over to the other site which I have done on occasion. I have found another type of angle, with a touch of j mould about it which may have to suffice. I only need one length of the old style may may use this other optional style and modify it slightly to accommodate sail track. Thanks again to those who have contributed.

Hi SGTL, That mould in a newer form is used by Jurgens in Pakenham and most English vans. Might be able to procure some locally. Cheers hughdeani

A long week at work but good news today in the form of an email from GJ James Aluminium people who are Australia wide but have a branch in SA. I found a profile which could work for my purposes and to eventually incorporate a sail track. I decided I could get two 5 metre lengths, one for each side as I have seen some vans who have also set up annexes on the off-door side on occasion for various reasons. GJ James SA advise me that they don't stock the particular profile in SA but they can get an order in from interstate if I buy 166 of them at $1750 + GST. By my calculations that makes a length = $11.59, so I am just after 164 other interested people to make it a viable option!
Who said it was meant to be easy to do up an old van?
