G'day Cobber, Every caravaners nightmare aye, I think that we have all experienced the wind rush when a big rig passes from behind in the next lane. As for what he did wrong in my opinion was to start to oversteer the car then in a panic hit the brakes which only made it worse. From my experience if in the same situation it's best to take your foot off the gas pedal and hold the steering wheel straight, never touch the brakes. Wouldn't be easy to keep a cool head in the situation this fellow found himself in.
Cheers Bob

You're right Bob, it would be hard to keep a cool head, It' a situation I'd hate to find myself in, instinctive reaction would take over and I'd probable do what that bloke did so.... it's best think about it before hand. First question is, if I was in this situation would I put by foot on the stop pedal with a road train right behind me.. not likely I hope Besides, sitting here at home I can see ( unless the van is going to do the braking ) that the van would most likely overrun the car resulting in what we see in the video. Second question, would I press the go pedal harder to straighten the rig up ( often the recommended procedure ) mate... I'm flat to the board just trying to get past him, got nothing left Third Question, would I just take my foot off the go pedal and hope the road train doesn't run over me .... and does that work ? Has anybody had first hand experience ? The real question is.... would I bother overtaking a road train if we're on the flat and moving at a reasonable pace ? I'll be able to go around him at the first hill we come to anyway...... ..... yep, that's the answer, that's what I think he did wrong Cobber.

This clip has been commented upon on a variety of sites by armchair critics such as us. There are probably a combination of reasons why this rig was lost. Incorrect braking, overweight or poorly distributed weight, the list goes one. After viewing this clip further, I wonder if the van may have had the driver's side wheel on the gravel while passing the truck and the driver was trying to lead it back onto the bitumen once he got to within camera view, which resulted in the van developing the wobbles.
Assuming no one was seriously injured, they were VERY lucky
