I have just bought a sunliner 1964? It says 1958 on the rego sticker??? so dont know. She has some major damage done to her front. I am as green as it gets but will have some help from a boatbuilder and a good handyman. It has always been my dream to have a vintage caravan. I just love the organic shape of the old ones. I have already recieved some great advice from members on this site and would love to hear from other people who may have taken on similar projects. I feel slightly overwhelmed at the moment, but I am certainly up for the challenge!! Thank you and I look forward to sharing my journey.

Thank you Andrew. Sitting out in her cobwebs and all, wow what a feel. Just like walking into a house and feeling right at home. Strange!!

Hi Anita
I think you will find the van is a 58 to 60 model. Definitely not newer than 1960, as the later ones had a lot of different features.
If you look thru the old threads under members photo albums you will find almost everything you will need to know is already there, including details on model identification.
Best of luck on your restoration, nothing is impossible to repair, the amount of work & time required just vary.

Thank you JBH it says 1958 but the guy I got it off said it was a 64? I will go with you.. Lol Claire I just found your scooby doo it is gorgeous, not sure if we can keep the flowers, although we love them!! I think they were put on with paint that is not very durable. By the time we fix up the front and re paint they may be hard to put back on. What are your plans for scooby. (Very cool name) our van came with the name Lola, don't think I have the heart to rename her.

Hi Sage80a, Congratulations on your purchase. Quite a lot of work to be done, but also a great satisfaction to be had when it's all done and you head off on the road with the van behind you. JBJ knows a bit about Sunliners from his own experience, so I think you can probably accept his comments about your van as fact. However, if you haven't already found it, the Sunliner thread in the 'Down History Lane' (DHL) section of the forum contains quite a bit of info about Sunliner caravans, so will be useful for you. You can find the thread by going to the DHL section and clicking on the first thread in the section which contains an index. Just scroll down to 'Sunliner' and click on the link. Another useful resource for you is the Sunliner thread on the 'Our Touring Past' (OTP) website which you can find by clicking here. The OTP thread contains a detailed guide on how to date Sunliners. As JBJ has suggested, it would be worth your while to have a look at the Sunliner related threads in the 'Members Photo Album' section. Quite a few people have had to do fibreglass repairs, etc, so that will give you some idea of what is involved and how it can be done. My additional suggestion is that you also look at Atouchofglass' (often called ATOG on the forum) thread on the restoration of his fibreglass Olympic caravan. While Olympics are obviously different to Sunliners, ATOG had to do quite a lot of fibreglass repairs on his van, and gave very useful detailed descriptions as he went along. Good luck with your new project. Don't forget to take lots of photos and let us know how you are going. If you have questions there will be plenty of people here who will help you with info. Don Ricardo

Hi Anita - just tonight we found the very faint serial number for Scooby on the A frame - right where the forum experts said it would be - whoooooo - we lost the light to make out more than the faint impressions though, so await full sun tomorrow to see what Scooby tells us!
I dare not sand back any more old paint, so its off to to buy paint stripper tomorrow.
Scooby will be relined - if the original cooktop still works, its going back in!
She will very probably be painted white with a blue chevron - and paw prints after a certain great dane cartoon character - Lola's flowers helped us feel that it was not too disrespectful to the vans to have a wee bit of fun with them. I'm pacing back and forward waiting for the local (highly recommended) paint shop to open after xmas to get the quote on primer and paint. Hope to learn the way of photo bucket soon, and would love to share stories. Happy to exchange email addresses by PM too, if thats of interest. My big topics at the moment are painting and window/door/hatch seals! awesome fun!

That would be great Claire. I have been going through some of the threads recommended and I am blown away by the commitment of some of the members. We have a friend that is a boat builder going to do the major repairs to her fiberglass shell, thank goodness. I imagine it is going to take an awful long time before she is ready to get back on the road. Such a hard decision renovation vs restoration. I totally understand both sides of the argument. You could have so much fun with design but I think it is sad to not keep what is salvageable! we will have to rebuild the table and chairs as it doesn't have any along with a million other things! I think at the end though it is your van and you have to love it flowers or paws!! and all the quirky little bits. Some of the images on the net are just amazing what can be done. A VERY nice man on here asked me if I was going to paint it pink with black and white Lino. I think that look is super popular at the moment!!! It must be so frustrating for the collectors and true restorers to see these iconic little things being "Pimped" I will be proud of Lola and her flowers if we get to keep them! Might even line her with fake fur!!!! Just kidding about that, I did see one on the net that had that. Each to their own!! Happy restoring Anita

Thank you Don Ricardo. I have just spent hours looking through the amazing threads of the journeys people go through. I think my gumtree obsession has been replaced with this forum!!!! I know I will have a thousand questions as we move along. Can't wait until tomorrow to go and search for a serial number. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, a newbie can easily get lost in the romance of it all. Mind you I think some of the very dedicated enthusiasts are well and truly wrapped up in the romance. Lol.. Thank you Anita

I can not believe the change to this from the photo below. I just wish we could have got some original Perspex windows down here in Tas. I did everything I could. So the ones she had when I bought her are being blasted and powder coated then re glazed. Thank you for the advice on that one Andrew!

My mate Tony who is the mastermind behind fixing the fiberglass, said this part of my van was his worst nightmare. that fiberglass lining doesn't really like being removed and put back in!

Just thought I would post some photo's finally to update the restoration. Thank you Andrew for the hour or so directions to post them. Lol We have had an amazing friend bring her from a total demolition job, to something we can work with. I am about to sand her back and paint her in a more suitable way. Stay tuned!!

Hi Sage60a, You're on the right track, but you need to copy and paste the URL address listed against 'IMG' in the 'Share This Photo' panel in Photobucket - the one that starts with '[URL=http...' Also, just a tip: You can post more than one photo in each of your posts if you want to. Just copy and paste the URL for each photo one after the other in your post, but make sure that you press 'Enter' on your keyboard twice between each photo URL so that the photos display below each other vertically in your post (otherwise they display horizontally which sends everybody's computer screens crazy ) Don Ricardo
