Just wondering if polishing my aluminium modern caravan would be a breach of ADRs? Thanks

I would not think its a problem modern milk tankers are polished ..you could check with a engineer first

I think your biggest concern will be the number of people who stop and brush their hair or fix their makeup in the reflection. Not to mention the number of blokes who will check "does my bum look big in this??" You can read this thread: ShinynessAnd you can see the end result of hours of polishing by willyn of his Airstream. Read through to the end of Page 2: will and Lyns new Airstreamcheers, Al.

Yup.. it can be a real issue for anyone following a curved , highly polished van... Since finishing the TD and giving it a good buffing I have noticed a few people that come up behind it on a sunny day cop a "Line of bright light" across their windscreen ... depending on distance travelled behind the van and height of the sun it can be blinding.... sorta like shining a mirror in their eyes. My observation in the rear view mirrors is as follows... First reaction appears to be to reach for the sunglasses... then drop the sunvisor... then ... on with the indicator and overtake you at the first opportunity ..... giving you the bird at the same time. Most people just smile and wave ... but some get a bit agro. Luckily for them I am just plain slack and I doubt if I will ever polish the van again to a mirror shine... it has dulled off now and therefore a lot less reflective. I reckon a big bright plain white late model van can be just about as reflective .. or would "Glarey" be a better description Almost cert there is no rules on shineyness. If there was there would be a lot of vehicles with flat glass that would not comply. As already mentioned by Brenten , there is some highly polished milk tankers running around as well. Regards Reddo

I passed (going the other way) a fully chrome late model commodore last week. I also thought about the glare and wondered if it was legal and what color was on their rego papers ...... silver perhaps!!!

I saw bloke doing a sign-writing job the other day, and he had a station wagon with a wrap that was about 80% chrome, looked fantastic. I wondered how it might go on an old Vauxhall bonnet. It's a company car and he had enquired with the RMA about the legalities before doing it, but no one could give him an answer, so he did it. The only reaction he said he had from Police was a big thumbs up! Some of their stuff here www.rgi.com.au/albums/thumbnails/1George

At least they saw you Reddo, maybe they should have polished motor bikes.
Then there would see a decline in " i didn't see him " excuses.
