Well Hello. I am a newby! I am a new owner of what I think is a Franklin 1966 Safari but I would be greatful of any advice to the contrary. The numbers on the drawbar are 2269. Im not sure if this means that there are some missing numbers. I love my little van. She appears to be fairly original and complete but in need of some obvious external work. She has some wood rot which I am relying on my husband to fix and sadly we have discovered that the diamond embossed aluminium sheeting that we need for repairs is no longer available. Any suggestions? So heres to the start of some exciting times.  |

I think there is a supplier for all kinds of aluminium her in SA - I'm sure someone else her can point you to the contact

G'day gaysha, No, not a Franklin Safari. The body shape reminds me more of the Coronet vans that were being made in the second half of the 1960s. It's a bit hard to make out the shape of the rear of your van, but the front is very similar. If you click on this link it will take you to the Coronet thread in our Down History Lane section: Coronet caravans - Ballarat, Vic. . Scroll down to Reply #15 and have a look at the shape of the van in the brochure. Go further down to Reply #21 and compare your van's shape with the one under the "carport" (don't compare the size, just the shape of the two ends  ). I can't think of any other brand at the moment that has that shape. Where did you find the chassis number located? Earlier Coronets had the chassis number welded on the inside of the drawbar arm (not easily found). cheers, Al. |

As Al says,it's a Coronet,the model is Prince from the sixties.

Thankyou for the imput. I'm sure you are right. The paint stripe up the side is also consistant with the Coronet and yes Franklin 1 the chassis number is on the inside of the draw bar. I'm pleased you have pointed me in the right direction for further research.

Has anyone been able to find diamond embossed patterned aluminium for repairs anywhere? I tried Rimex but theres is different. Has anyone had the same problem?
