We had a great time on our first little trip away, since we only live accross town. There is still a lot more work to do to Abby before we brave anyting bigger. There have been moments when the whole project (Abby is one day going to be converted to a coffee van...) was nearly canned due to the fact that the Kombi was in a bad way when I bought her and I didn't know... Anything can be fixed with enough money but when you're not mecchanicall minded and have to pay someone to do most of the work the cost just keps growing... I hoestly thought I would never get to put MY van behind MY car...
We did have a couple of litle problems. The cap on the water tank is missing it's seal and leaks while travellig, and when I went to let some out for the return trip I discovered the drain in the sink is quite blocked. Also for those who know we had a flat batery in the morning (Thanks boblor and the man next door in the modern van for heling get us started....!!!) it turns out that my boyfriend changed the setting on the fridge the last time we used it so that it wouldn't cut out when the battery got too low... And I didn't notice.... "Operator Error" strikes again...
It was great to see such a big turnout... SA doesn't get a lot of this kind of event. A shame though that the caravan park wasn't quite up to the challenge, particularly since thay have the reputation, and the awards to make them one of the best in our state. Even the showers weren't up to scratch.
It was also fantastic to finally be able to put faces and names to usernames. A lot of people knew who I was when I pulled in to the park. Everyone was very nice, and I was even able to catch up with a few people I aven't seen in ten years or more (and they remembered me!).
We had a blast, and if a similar event is held again we will definately be there. The display at the showgrounds really was fantastic, people set up their awnings and it looked like a little campground. My dad and his girlfriend came down to have a look. She was very excited over the Quest, her fater used to have one nearly identical, and all the old Roadmasters brought back a lot of memories for me too.
