A friend of mine recently went to WA and whilst there, attended the Studebaker Club National Rally at Freemantle during the Easter weekend He spotted this rather unusual caravan. Does anyone know this van? Is it a homebuilt? It seems to have copied ideas from the Propert, Cabana and Prattline vans Ray

G'day Ray, Well, well, well...the things that come out of the woodwork! Three or four years ago when I started collecting caravan photos and information, I came across this particular van... For the life of me I can't think where I got the photos from, but since there's no watermarks in the photos, I'm wondering if I didn't actually find them on this forum. Anyhow, my photos are apparently of a 1967 Zephyr caravan. Never heard of them before, and never heard of them since...until your pics. Any attempt to search the newspaper archives for the name "Zephyr" will bring back a gazillion results for cars. It's like searching for a needle in a haystack to find Zephyr caravans. Are the photos of the same van? I don't think so...but I'll let Detective Don Ricardo's magnifying glass verify that. cheers, Al.

hi,
I have a feeling that Will posted these pix years ago, when he came across it in WA.
Could be wrong though.

Hi Franklin1, You did check the DHL index for 'Zephyr' didn't you? The thread contains all the info you are after, posted by one of our members. I'll leave you to find out who it was. No, not me... Interestingly enough Zephyr vans were apparently built not only in NZ, but also in...Perth! There are some differences between the vans in the two lots of pics, so if it is the same one there have been some additions since the first lot of photos were taken. But if they were built in Perth then there could easily be more than one around I guess. Don Ricardo

The caravan in question was towed by a 1954- 55 Studebaker station wagon, so that narrows it down to whom owns it as there are not very many of them around .I will ask someone whom was there so we can get in contact with them and find out what the history is on the van. Regards Gerald

There are heaps of Zephyrs this side of the ditch but none that look remotely like that one! I don't think it would be the same manufacturer at all.
That's a freaky looking thing! Insect-like almost with lots of eyes!
