Hi,
I believe the best way is to paint by brush, using enamel full gloss paint. Thats what would have been used in the past.
Look at Reddos teardrop thread, & the one on "Lucille" I did a while back. Theres heaps of info & comments about painting on the Forum, just a matter of finding where its stashed.

Hi Greedy A lot of paint suppliers are recommending using acrylic nowadays. I have seen some good finishes off a spray gun with both enamel and acrylic..... But .. after painting at least 4 vans i will stick to my guns and recommend that if you want an original look and a good gloss finish go with oil based enamel. I used a short napped roller on the large flat areas and cut in around the windows / doors etc with a 1"brush. Give it at least 2 good coats . with a light sand between each one after it has dried. Then put a top coat on "laying off "with the brush as you go . Laying off simply means applying the top coat ( use a 4"brush for the top coat if you have the patience) with no weight on the brush . and long straight strokes. Only other advice i can hand ya is to make sure the surface is well dusted off between coats and sanding. get the timber as warm as you can on a sunny day and sit the paint tin in a warm saucepan of water. The warmer the water the better the paint will flow and level off without brush marks.. Go for it mate Reddo
