Howdy. White spirits (Thinners) keep it away from painted surfaces, kero, or nail varnish remover (otherwise known as Acetone).Acetone also good for removing Superglue from ones fingers!Been there ,done that. cheers gordon

HI,
I would get some wax & grease remover from an auto parts sales outlet. It should take the glue off & not affect the gel coat.
If that doesnt work, try something stronger, like paint thinners( very carefully), or maybe eucalyptus oil.
Trial & error with removing glue residues.

I used a hot air gun and plastic scraper to remove the old stickers from my non-vintage caravan. I tested almost every liquid in the house and the shed to see what would remove the adhesive residue. There were only two that had any impact...metho and unleaded petrol. The metho also softened the acrylic paint coating on the aluminium cladding, so I didn't persevere with that. I didn't try acetone (eg. in nail polish remover) because I figured that would soften the paint coating as well. The unleaded petrol (pinched from the 4-stroke mower fuel can) had no effect on the paint, but softened the adhesive after a couple of goes at dabbing a cloth wet with petrol onto the adhesive (note: dabbing, NOT rubbing). By the second dabbing (give it about 30 seconds to soak in), the adhesive was soft enough to scrape it off slowly using a timber stick (such as a paddle pop stick sharpened at one end like a chisel). I dabbed about an inch square at a time and cleaned that off before moving to the next square inch. The softened adhesive is very sticky, so a roll of toilet paper was used to keep wiping the glue off the timber stick. I seem to remember celebrating a couple of birthdays between the start and finish of the job, but eventually I got there. I have no expertise with fibreglass, so I don't know what effect unleaded petrol will have on that surface. cheers, Al.

The glue stripping product i have used with success is not toxic or flammable ( or explosive ) K-Mart used to sell it maybe still do it is called Citro-Clean , a very strong orange smelling cleaning product , it softened the glue residue to a point where it would come off in gooey lumps ,, kel.

That would be an orange oil based product; lots of cleaning products contain it now. Its effect (and effectiveness) is pretty much the same as eucalyptus oil in my experience dealing with other types of glue.

Hi S&J
Any of the above should be useful Just be careful using scrapers. Make sure the edges don't dig into the gelcoat. It will make a horrible mess.
Acetone is also useful - but first try it on the gelcoat somewhere you don't see. Also wear gloves when using it.
Cheers Atog
