Thanks FF, I was worried that if it wasn't a 'vintage' then I shouldn't be posting about it here. That 'ring in' of mine still seems to be full, do you reckon it could be dangerous? Maybe you should look after it for me

G'day Jo, What happened to the picture of the tail-lights?? I reckon your van would be lucky to be earlier than 19 93, so I'll give yer 500 bucks for it to take it off yer hands! Y'know Jo?...all you've done is complicated the situation for those historians amongst us who thought they had a good handle on the early Viscounts. Your van certainly appears to be from the early 1960s period, perhaps-maybe-possibly from 1963. Here's a couple of brochures showing the 1961 and ('compliments' of ourtouringpast) 1962 Viscounts. Note the rounded bum, and the centre stripe... Note in the 1962 brochure at the bottom it talks about Viscount having manufacturing plants in NSW, Vic, and SA. It is quite possible that your chassis number of V314 means the van was built in the Victorian plant. Now, we all know that Viscounts are distinctive for the wrap-around windows front and rear, so when did the design change to include wrap-around windows at the rear? Hmmm...dunno for sure, but it looks like it might have been around 1963. Here's a photo showing the same centre stripe as the brochures above, but with the rear wrap-around windows. Also note the Viscount badges above the front window and beside the door. Same badge as yours... [See the tail-light Jo??!! Where's the photo of your tail-lights?? ] So, does your chassis number of V314 translate to the 14th Viscount built in 196 3 in Victoria, or is it simply the 314th van built sometime in Victoria?? Who knows... By 1964, the new rippled profile aluminium cladding was making its mark in the industry, so all things point towards your van being from about 1963. Looking at the photo of your clearance light above, the outline of the original lights suggests it might have looked like this... You can still buy these on USA ebay (they are used on Airstreams apparently)... I bought mine a couple of years ago from seller okatiedid, who still lists them. Check through her store to see if she's listed just the amber ones, rather than a complete set like this one... Clearance LightsHope this helps. cheers, Al.

Hey Al, Thanks for that. No pics of tail lights as all it has is new LED rectangle ones I can't even see an old outline. This van doesn't have wrap around windows front OR rear Maybe the whole van is a ring-in! If she is a 1993 model you will have to kick her off the forum ;D ;D And you can't have her, she is going to be my boudoir....just ask Ray ;D ;D Gotta love complicating things! Jo

G'Day Jo Your Chlorobromomethane fire ext would be about the right period for your Viscount van It may have come lose on the wall or the slot head screw may have fallen out and some body has used a phillip head screw to fix it back I guess you have 2 options change the screws back to slot head or .........I could take that.... OLD NO GOOD.... ext off your hands ( I can see the blokes yelling in to their computers....... Jo he is trying to rip you off ) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Jo that ext is a collectable item .....I have 4 brass ones like that but not that brand ....So I would be happy it buy it from you If you are going to take it off the wall Cheers f/f ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey Firefighter.........you should casually mention to Jo that if she sets that extinguisher off next thing she knows she could wake up in Hospital saying "What the..........". Experience talking!! I let one go in a fire in a crane cab back in the '60's.

Hey Jo - going by that cough, you must have emptied that extinguisher out - did ya feel the high ;D ;D BTW, how big is the ext? Is it about 6-8 inches tall? If so, then I will have to kick myself for letting mine go with the Superb (sorry Humpty - you would remember it, wouldn't you?). Didn't realise they were so collectable Hope the new owners appreciate what they've got, it even included the original advertising brochure!!!! Ray

our van is V51-3 note the wrap around window at front only. and the rear retro tail lights. not damaged!! i thinks ours is late 50's?? registered at 1960. had to get a newer fridge because my oldest son took off with the original one (against my wishes) to put in his workshop 20 years ago!! I still cant work out exactly what year it was made. there wouldnt be many if any like this one and in such good condition. The hub caps on it are holden, very old ones but in good nick too. been sitting proudly at my house for 25years untill she got cleaned up again and registered. now all thats left is its first trip. to a rod run!!

Hey everyone, we have the oportunity to buy a van looking like the one in the brochure and the silver weatherd one shown as well, just wondering what they are worth. the friend selling it has had it under cover mostly for as long as she can remember 20 or so years, it still has the original morphy Richards Gas fridge etc, from what i can tell is completely original, it has one broken perspex/glass rounded end window (im guessing these can be replaced ?) It also has the aluminium ? moulded lights shown above as well what is something like this worth unregistered ? sorry to add to this post but when i saw it i thought this was easiest :-) G'day Jo, Here's a couple of brochures showing the 1961 and ('compliments' of ourtouringpast) 1962 Viscounts. Note the rounded bum, and the centre stripe... [See the tail-light Jo??!! Where's the photo of your tail-lights?? ]

decide what price YOU are happy to pay for it in its present condition.
Make the lady an offer and see whether she is happy to get that much for it.
If needed then you can both haggle a little each way and see if you can come to a mutual price that BOTH of you are happy with.
If it works out, you have a van and she gets the money. It is just a bit of negotiation that is needed.
If not move on and find another one.
Good luck with it, remember, this is the fun bit.
Leigh.
