Only 38 days to go until Tara weekend (according to the Tara website). The event is held on Frid 5, Sat 6, & Sun 7 of AUGUST 2011.
Firewood is supplied, just bring kindling (Rob & I can do that, no worries). Wagon train vans circling the fire (like at Jondarayan) sounds like the go. maybe not too close to fire for those bondies though! Spanish Fiesta is on the Friday nite, that'll keep us warm!
From earlier posts looks like goers so far are
Andrew (smut57) Neil & Cheryl Barb & Clyde Di & Garry Lisa David & Lyn Cathie & Rob Dosse & Ilse Tanya, Brian & the gang
Cheers
Cathie

OK guys
Just 17 days to go until Tara. Tara website (on page 1 of this thread) is pretty lively now. Friday night is Spanish Fiesta, Sat night is Aussie camp oven so sounds good. Sounds like there may be a few campers so they advise to bring own kindling, plus "some" firewood. We can't bring a lot cause we're in the car, but will try & squeeze some wood in somewhere. Let me know soon if you want to come to Tara, so I can contact organiser. Cathie

No worries Dave! Yes I agree with you, this is going to be a good one! Dishlickers are coming 4sure. bring your own water apparently, but I'll check on this this week. Final numbers would be great please for this week, so I can phone the organiser. I've got 2 possibles from work wanting to come. From the website, sounds like there'll be plenty of campers, so I need final numbers asap. If anyone is unsure, checkout the website www.tarafestivalncamels.org.au/Friday night 6pm is Spanish Fiesta. Sat nite Aussie camp oven. what do we want to do? camp ovens ourselves or get in the festival mood re food? Cathie

Hi Dave
Have added Terry & Judy's names to list.
Tara organiser ph'd up & everything is pretty much the same...hot showers, toilets but bring yer own drinking water. We're camping out in the Polo ground opposite the Showground so not sure about barbies, probably 44's. She said as there are lots of people lining up for camp sites (they do a group reunion thing at campsite), so she needs to know if we need all 12 sites I previously booked. Also she still suggested bringing a bit of extra firewood & definitely kindling in case firewood runs out. I'll phone her & ask re barbies. If only 44's, we can bring baby Q barbi & do sausage sizzle prior to Fiesta.
So...ANY OTHER HAPPY CAMPERS OUT THERE WANTING TO SEE THE CAMELS RACE @ TARA, YOU NEED TO LET ME KNOW ASAP. yes i know i was just yelling! Cathie

Hi all I ph'd Tara organiser. No 44's thank goodness, just have open fireplace to do cooking etc as no barbies either. So as everyone will arrive Friday arvo at different times, can the first arrivals arrange vans around a central fireplace in a circular wagon train if possible. It's going to take us at least 6 hrs even with car, Propert & at least 1 lead foot. Maybe not too, we had a blowout on Overland on freeway near gold coast on return from Crows nest. Freaky!
Re cooking, we're not bringing barbque or snags. Will bring soup or heatable dinner for Friday nite, camp oven & small roast beef for Sat nite, plus jaffle iron, cast iron pans for fire barbi, dare I say griddle pan? Banno are you reading this? We'll miss your naked chefery at Tara. See you next time Di & Garry! My mobile is 0427 797 191

Hi Tanya & all
Great you're bringing your "pig" fire.
I don't see why we can't share camp oven dinner around the fire on Sat nite but of course I don't like to speak for all. We'll bring a camp oven, roast beef to share & veges for us for Sat nite, & a biggish pot of soup to share or not, depending on when everyone arrives, for Frid.
The Tara camp organiser phoned tonite. Here are the directions:
Go to the Showground, go through the Main Gate for about 50 metres (ignore the dusty road directing campers straight ahead) then take the road to the left (there'll be a list of campers including us)
meander along for a bit (her words) until you reach the racecourse.
Go straight through the gate into the middle of the racecourse where we have plenty of room to camp, do fires etc
BUT if the gate is closed with a NO ENTRY sign, just wait until the camels have finished training until you can open the gate & go through into the middle of the racecourse.
I asked Michelle the organiser, if we will be sitting in the middle of the course with the camels circling us, but she wasn't sure. Whatever happens, it sounds like fun! so there's plenty of room for other campers if anyone else wants to come. we've bought our weekend ticket for $40 online too. Very easy.
Bye for now
Cathie
