Hi all, I'm new to all this. My Granddad made this bondwood van in about 1950. He passed away in 1967 and it sat in a carport until Grandma passed away in 2006 & I inherited it. Fresh paint, new tires and repairs to the brakes is all it needed. I recently changed the interior lights for fluro's and added a water pump because the old, leaky hand pump ticked me off! While camping at the Grampians recently I came across a member of the Jayco Owners Club (honest Mr Moderator - I didn't know it was a rude word ). He told me this club has monthly runs, generally within about 2 hours of Melb. Are there any vintage vanners clubs around Melb or Vic that maybe do similar activities?? It would be great to catch up with some like minded people. Cheers for now, Neil.

G'day flyboy58, and welcome to the forum! ;D ;D Your Granddad was certainly a crafty ol' bugger!! A real nice looking van there. Make sure you don't throw the old, leaky pump out! Once you get addicted to this Vintage caravan madness, you'll be wanting to get the pump fixed and put back in the van. There's no such thing as Vintage Vanners clubs. In fact the word "club" will cause a number of members here to start breathing into a brown paper bag. Just the term "Vintage Vanners" will be enough to identify any enthusiasts. Have a look in the second section of the forum: Vintage Caravan Runs and Events, and see if there's anything there that interests you. Great to have you on board. cheers, Al.

What a nice thing to inherit... Its a lovely van I think knowing the history of your van can make it even more special... Vikki. And, yes, as Al said, you may be wanting that original pump fixed and back in the van eventually so hang on to it if you still have it.

G'day Flyboy58, That's a great van you have there, and it looks really good after the fresh paint, etc. Did you have holidays in it with your grandparents? If so, it must hold lots of happy memories for you. In any case it's a bit of family treasure. In regard to vintage van runs and events, for some reason, over the last couple of years we Victorians don't seem to have been as active as our fellow V V'ers in NSW and Queensland who have established a relatively regular series of get togethers. This is despite some valiant efforts by a couple of Victorians to get the rest of us organised. Must be the weather or something... (No comments from people in other states, thank you! ) However, there are a couple of runs planned for May which you might be interested in. The major one is the Vintage Caravan Nationals which are to be held in Mildura from Monday, 10 May to Friday, 14 May. (The Nationals are held every two years.) The other event is actually on the weekend of 1 & 2 May at Lake Goldsmith, south of Beaufort. Lake Goldsmith is the venue for a twice yearly steam engine/machinery rally, and V V'ers have been invited to attend the rally in May. A number of people who are going to the Nationals will be going to Lake Goldsmith then travelling to Mildura as part of a 'Meander Down the Murray' which has become the 'Meander Down the Murray with a Slight Detour to Lake Goldsmith which is Nowhere Near the Murray'. The other event to watch out for is the Cora Lynn Country Car Show, which is held at Cora Lynn in West Gippsland at the beginning of October each year. The show includes vintage caravans. You will find details for all the above events in the Vintage Caravan Runs and Events section on the forum, as Franklin1 said. Of course, if you have a suggestion for a vintage caravan run, you are most welcome to post your idea on the forum. Being a forum and not a club, there is no-one who is in charge of organising events, and everybody's suggestion is counted as valuable as anybody else's. Hopefully I will catch up with you at one of these events. I'm looking forward to taking a closer look at your van. Don Ricardo

Hi all, thanks for the tips about various trips around Vic. The original pump is still mounted on the sink. The electric one pushes water straight through it. I spent quite a bit of time contemplating the plumbing & wiring to retain the 'look & feel' of the van. I'm quite happy with the result as there is no visible change to the van except for the pump tucked away in a cupboard. Cheers for now, Neil.
