Hi I have just joined your forum. I purchased a very neglected bondwood caravan a couple of months ago. I found it while travelling around central victoria and purchased it on my way back from adelaide. It will be a very long term project. All sides will need replacing but the fundimentals are all still there. Could do with some good advise as to how to approach the job. (Thought one panel at a time)

Welcome aboard!
Unfortunately I can't offer any advice but I'm sure someone will be able to help. Just wanted to say best of luck, and can we see some pics please!
Oh there is a tech section which might have some useful information.

Hi lee, and welcome to the forum! ;D You have the same name as my daughter, so you score extra points for that! I presume you have found a Globe Trotter caravan, judging by the "Globe 603" heading you've put on this thread. That Globe 603 number seems to be the "Part number" of the towball coupling. It appears on a number of Globe Trotter vans that we've come across on the forum. Elsewhere on the drawbar (probably somewhere near the jockey wheel), there will hopefully be another number which is the actual chassis number of your van. It may be a 4-digit number (or maybe only 3) something like 1258 for example. If you haven't already done so, have a read through the Globe Trotter history thread: Globe (Trotter) caravans - Bowden SA., and see if that helps you with identifying more about your van. As far as the restoration goes, it's a very simple process of only a THOUSAND steps to completion. But you've already done the first couple just by looking at the van and sussing out what needs doing. Just keep plodding along step by step and one day you'll suddenly have a restored van in front of you! Amazing!! A bloke named Keith Winser wrote a lot of books back in the 1950s and 1960s about building caravans. One book that doesn't get a mention much is the Keith Winser book on "Swear words for Caravan Restorers". This is a real handy little book for when you start to get frustrated during the restoration process. A couple of outbursts can get that blood pressure level back down quick smart! If you'd like to share some photos with us of your van (Yes PLEASE!!), have a read of this thread on how to post photos onto the forum... Jim's instructions on posting photosGood to have you with us! cheers, Al.

Hi I`ve been checking pictures and my little van is very much like Trish`s however mine has cast windows and a gas only fridge. We thought the fridge may have been a later addition but there is no way it would have fitted through any now available space(not even through the roof Vent) so the only way we are going to be able to get it out will be when we remove side walls. We have not found a serial number as yet but it has been a bit wet to be out looking

Hi lee, this is your photo... I hope you are going to throw those crappy old aluminium windows away. But keep that bondwood - that still looks to be in pretty good nick Hope the restoration goes well for you. Another lovely little Globe Trotter to be saved. ;D ;D Congratulations on getting pretty close with Photobucket on your first attempt. Have a look at this other thread about posting photos... POSTING PHOTOS, and scroll down to Reply #4 where I've put some photos in the instructions showing what your computer screen looks like at each step. Good luck! cheers, Al.

hi Al The windows are original cast windows with Globe cast into them. Not at all modern. I will have a look at your instructions. Might need the young ones

The job continues. there is now one complete new side wall and a few bits have been replaced. Aaron has made a comment about never rebuilding again and might attempt a teardrop from scratch next time. We are awaiting Bendigo Swap to see what we can pick up. May just be finished in time for Ararat Festival

Hi The little Globe is progressing really well. We have made it to side 2 which we are both considering an acheivement as we both work full time and have limited hours and space. We have just made a great discovery!! On the passenger side front corner under the replacement tin is a Globe Logo. It is a map of the world with GLOBE in red across the middle. My problem is there is only about 1/3 of this remaining. I have a son who is a screen printer and can make me a "new" one but I cannot find a picture of an original for him to copy. (Can only find Logos with boomarangs) Should you know where I could look it would be really good Thanks All
