G'day all, My wife and I joined your merry throng.....thats throng not thong ? last night. I have been a watcher of this forum for a few months now and what a great site !. Lot's of interesting stuff. We don't own a V-V yet, but one is in our future and will be towed behind either our 64 Chev Impala convertible, 66 Ford F350 or our rough and ready 75 F100. We don't have a real preference yet to the make of van, but probably a 1960's bondy or similar like the Coronets. I love that monster Coronet in the V-V makes section....what beauty, would look real good behind our F350. No doubt we'll end up buying a rebuilder so we can modify it to how we want. Having said that, we have considered building a van from scratch.....certainly a Teardrop !. Anyway, thankyou for allowing us to join and perhaps we will be able to contribute to the forum along the way. Cheers.........impalabazz (Barry)

Hi Barry, Very nice looking Impala! I'd also like the 1960 Caddy behind it What is unusual is the 1958 Chevrolet Brookwood 4 door 9 passenger Station Wagon in the second picture. I have never seen one before. Many thanks for those pictures. Cheers, Ron

Hi Barry, it would be good if you could find a pre-1970 version of one of these... Only problem is that I think this company didn't start up until sometime in the early 1970s. You could always buy an old bondy, and pinch the nameplate off a '70s Impala! cheers, Al.

Thanks for your replies. ronmcgr, there are quite a few interesting and rare American vehicles that attend the Zippel Cruise nights here in SA. The monthly cruise nights will be starting again this coming October. Numbers of yank vehicles attending is usually in the 200-300 on any night. Interesting to see what happens this year as the cops have made it known that they are taking a "dim" view of Car Club activities in carparks and streets this year. That 58 Brookwood wagon has disappeared in recent years so hopefully it has just been laid up or perhaps it's having a rebuild. A few years back there was also a 70 Buick Stationwagon, 74 Chev Kingswood wagon, 68-69 Chevelle wagon, 64 Pontiac Wagon (ex-hearse) and a super rare (in Australia) 66 Plymouth wagon (ex hearse) that regularly attended these cruise nights. You can view a lot of these cruises over at OZrodders.com.au I learnt to drive (age 12-13) in the old mans 64 Chev Impala Stationwagon. ;D Two tone paint Metallic Brown/Bronze with Ivory colored roof. Dad bought that car new from Claridge Motors at Unley Park in 1965. Back then American and Canadian imports were sold a year later in Australia than the US/Canadian release date. Dad sold that car in 1971. It still exists now in the McLaren Vale district, but very sad and sorry condition. I've tried to buy it each time I see it, but the bloke won't sell. The same year I was born ('58) Dad bought from Jansen Motors on the corner of South Road and Oaklands Road Edwardstown an ex demo 1955 Ford Customline 4 door Station Wagon. It was Red and White, 272 V8 (first year for Ford OHV motor in Australia....I think) and auto with factory aircon !!.....beautiful car. We went away camping with that vehicle quite a few times as I remember and once that I can remember towing the Carapark caravan. But it certainly got used to tow the 20ft Bellboy !. Dad sold that Wagon in '67......bugger. I was really hoping I'd get that one to go to Highschool in !! I have NEVER seen it again up until very recently when I thought I saw it or a very similar vehicle in a TV advert for a Caravan and Camping show some months ago. The Bellboy got traded in on a 1970 vintage 22ft. Modern caravan in '75. If I find some pics I will post them. Mum and Dad did an "almost" all the way arround Australia trip (all states except Tas & WA) in 1976-77 with that Van and 76 Ford F250 4x4. They were into Clay Target shooting then and went to heaps of clubs all over Australia on there 9 month trip. Dad & Mum operated a business called Taipan Projectiles Pty Ltd. They built the business from nothing in 1946 and part of the "spoils" of the boom years (1955-65) as Dad called it was always buying and selling cars, trucks boats and caravans, because he could !. Great for me as a kid as I got to ride in lots of different classic cars. So I can blame Dad for my passion for Cars, Trucks, Boats and Vans of the 60's....just great. Franklin1...there's an idea, definately food for thought !. I hadn't heard of an Impala caravan until trolling through this website. Early 60's styling seems to appeal to the missus and I. Cheers.........Barry.

Hi Barry, I had no idea SA had such a Classic car following! Mind you I was born in Bordertown and left SA to join the Army at 18, so I don't have a good "handle" on all things SA ;D I'm a bit of a car nut, I have 20 gig of car pictures from around the world on HD. 1955 was the first OHV V8 Ford in AU and CA. The USA put the first OHV in the 54 Model along with our 55 dash My Father owned a 54 Customline for many years and I loved it! I learnt to drive (age 9) in a 1925 Citroen 5CV plus a WWII Ford V8 Blitz. Quite a combo, the Citroen was similar in size to an Autsin Seven and the Blitz had no brakes. We lived on a farm Australia built Canadian versions of GM, Chrysler and Ford. I won't bore the VV people with the history on here, but if you are interested, drop me a line. Tonsley Park built Australian Chrysler Royals in the late 50's early 60's that are totally unique to AU, as was the Star Model Customline, all variants of Canadian models. Cheers, Ron
