This is another van that qualifies nicely for our sister Classic Caravans forum. The "Royal" model (Viscount) was first introduced in 1971, most likely at the Sydney Caravan Show in May that year. This particular "lightning flash" side stripe was changed in the second half of 1971, so this van is likely to be one of the very first Royals off the production line. This van has had a very good refurbishment done to the outside walls. The lightning flash was originally available as only one colour (the ones I've seen so far are blue, yellow, orange, and green), so this van has been nicely repainted in a two-colour style... If any of our members have a late 1960s Vintage van with white acrylic cladding, it's a very good example of how an external repaint can certainly freshen up these old aluminium vans. Nicely done. cheers, Al.

With apologies to winterwood and the Moderators, can I "highjack" this thread in a sense, but continue the theme of restorations of caravans, albeit Classic caravans as per this thread?... Chesney caravans from the late 1970s had this shape, as per a 1977 Chesney example... On ebay recently, somebody listed a 1978 Chesney that had been professionally restored. Whether you agree with the outcome of the restoration or not, it is an awesome result for a number of reasons. But it begs the questions...Why choose a 1978 Chesney as the base?, and, Why spend an obviously HUGE amount of money on a 1978 Chesney? The bidding for this van finished at $28,100 But it didn't meet the Reserve! And so now if I can tie this back into winterwood's thread, it just shows the lengths people are prepared to go to, to keep one of these old vans on the road...no matter whether they are Vintage OR Classics. I personally was just gobsmacked at the outcome of this restoration. cheers, Al.
