Hi jennison, here's a couple of Motor Manual magazines that featured Jennisons on their front covers... The January 1956 edition... and the August 1959 edition... You'll notice the second doorway on the 30 footer. That was a sectioned-off compartment for the four weightlifters who travelled with the family on holidays. At each camp, the four strongmen would jump up onto the roof and grab a corner of the hatch each, and heave it up! Apparently that was cheaper than having a mobile crane follow you everywhere... And have a go at the blokes fishing with a collar and tie on, eh??!! Now that's what you call being on holidays... I'll add these into the Jennison DHL thread, so don't go there...same as this stuff. cheers, Al.

Al, your'e right about the hatch, must weigh a bit. how was it lifted, with hydraulic rams or something?.
Denis.

Hi Denis, I wonder if the hatch isn't actually fixed in position?? If you look at the interior photo, there doesn't seem to be anything down that end to raise it with. And the photo seems to show some light coming in underneath the side of the hatch. The exterior photo shows the hatch looking like it's sitting a couple of inches off the roof.
The bidding for this item rocketed past what I could afford, so I chucked a tantrum and pinched the photos off the listing. Maybe the full article describes how the hatch operated. And maybe a member here now owns the magazine and can enlighten us further.
cheers, Al.

Thanks for that Al. Yes the hatch definitely looks raised in that colour photo. I would have loved to bid on the mags too.. Was it ebay or all classifieds? You are right about the weightlifters, the hatch on mine is almost a 2 man job, the weight of the one on the 30 footer must be huge! It would be hard to see the hinge/lock mechanism if they have the same flush mounted fold down flyscreen cover on the inside. It brings new meaning to the Jennison claim of "fully airconditioned with the largest roof hatch in the world"
I will have to check, but trodler has this article and photos I think, Maybe he has the whole magazine?! jeff PS-You would want to plan ahead which service stations you went to with that overhang at the rear i reckon

Hey jennison, here's the front cover of the Dec 1952 magazine, showing you and your family on holidays... I reckon that'd be you being towed in the little 'mini-Jenni' behind your brother... I see your Mum can water-ski with the optional extra Jennison spring-loaded tow hitch...bluddy versatile caravans, aren't they??!! cheers, Al.

That must be the outboard and not a jockey wheel we can see hanging down in front of the tow hitch!
