Hi all We have attended one FE-FC nats at Jindabyne. :DThey really do have a full weekend planned. We, as a few on this forum would like to attend both events if we are to travel that far, even though we will not have the FC with us (it is not set up to tow) . If we only attend the caravan nats, Mid week would probably be good. Travel down on the weekend, arrive early week, hang around and chat and play and drink and whatever else happens, then travel home the following weekend. therefore only having one week off work?? I don't think it is a matter of one nats being pushed aside for the other, but more of the case, lets see, and do, and meet as many people as we can after travelling so far. It looks like we need to start booking sites at one of the parks very soon otherwise we may not all be able to stay at the same park, especially over Easter. We stayed at Blue Lake and it was very nice. Ticko's

hi all jude and i are definitely going to s.a for the vintage caravan nationals. we're going to take about a week to travel down there via the coast road and have a look at the apostles before they all fall down, then take another week to get back home via the inland. it doesn't matter too much to us (at this point in time) in which week it is held, as i hope to be fully retired by then, but if not i'll take some long service leave. we seem to think that mark had begun to make some formal arrangements regarding van parks, and i know we've asked him to book us in for the event. (hope he remembered). ;D ;D ;D ;D anyhow, i suppose someone (one person) ought to be organizing the accommodation and we should all work with or through that person. just our thoughts geoff 'n jude ps if anybody else is interested in traveling as a group with us, we'll be happy to organize the 'tour' down to mt. gambier. geoff (probably jude will do all the organizing).

SO Extraction of the digit should produce a suitable out come. All being well We'll Be there with bells on Mark. Brian & Sandra

On Jan 2 . 2007 surferboy wrote Gday everybody Spoke to a lady named Sue at the Blue Lake Caravan Park in Mt Gambier today. I am trying to organize (?) myself for 2008. my Easter weekend is booked for the FE,FC Nats ( we got the SPA ROOM) so I was checking for Caravan Park accomodation for the week leading into easter in case i ever get the Convair back together. and I planned on getting ther a few days early to allow time for all the breakdowns on the way ( at least i know the timing gear wont break at widgemooltha.....the mechanic promised the new one will last forever !!) She said the week leading into easter poses no problems ...BUT.. Easter weekend is really busy and would need to be booked well in advance. And if theres 20 vintage vanners wanting the Easter Weekend they would need 12 months notice just something to think about before it gets to late and the oppurtunity passes by Personally I dont mind when we do the caravan thing cos I'll be there either way but doing it during the week makes it easier for Cathy and I to catch up with everybody 'bout time we dusted this topic off and got a definite "start date" at The blue lake caravan Park . Anyone wanting to stay on for easter can do so if they book in early enough. Sue the caretaker has already stated she would like 12 months notice. we aint that far out of easter 2007 . So can i suggest... everyone read back over the posts already submitted and make a decision of some sort on when they are gunna turn up at Mt Gambier. ? Would be good if we can ring and say to Sue. "i want to Book a site with the vint vanners from........ to.........." and get a reply something along the lines of "No wuckers mate . i have twenty site reserved in the one street" If its gunna be on the week leading up to easter. I might try and get there on wednesday early. Have at least a couple of days with the entire V.V crew . Spend a day or 2 extra with the non fe/fc driving van towers. Check out the fe/fc nats Friday and the P/V nats saturday . Move out of Mt gambier - Blue lake park on sunday morning and start heading east. Lets get our Sh#t together folks!!!! Reddo

5 minutes after my last post...... Just got off the phone to Judy at Blue lake van park- 08-87259856. As of today there has been no major car clubs or similar clubs contacted the van park re accomodation for easter 2008 or the week before. She has also stated they do not allocate sites to particular groups just pay and head off onto a site when you arrive. I asked if it was possible to reserve 20 sites for the V.V group . she stated that this would probably be Ok for the week leading up to easter. So at least we would be grouped together . Anyone turning up on Good friday would possibly end up off somewhere else on the park if the 20 sites are still loaded. Note: Once you are set up onsite during the week leading up to easter they wont ask you to move over the easter break. Also stated that site fees sneek up by a few dollars each year as well as an increase in peak season. At the moment a powered site is $27 and likely to go to $29 this easter. which means a powered site next easter ( 2008) would be in the vicinity or $32 per site / per night / 2ppl. So...... The way i see it we just ring up , tell em you are with the V.V mob and would like to book a site sometime during the week leading up to easter . If we get enough ppl ringing them and asking to be situated with the V.V group i am sure they will rope off enough sites from the start of the week before easter to fit us all together. It doesnt appear to be worth trying to co-ordinate bookings through any one person. it looks like just ring up tell em when ya coming and when ya leaving... most importantly ... Tell em your with the V.V mob and ask that they keep count of how many are registering/ booking in. Sorry if i have put anything up here that contradicts what they have already done in regards to booking sites etc. Its just what i have been told at 1.00pm today. Reddo

Geoff There is no "drop the flag this is the start line" date. Nor is there a "this is the finish line now go home date". Although Mark has stated sunday 16th march is kick off date and thats cool with me.. If ya wanna turn up sunday and enjoy a full week of vintage vanning ya can. Others will probably turn up the same day. I am aiming at leaving Newcastle on sunday 16th maybe with JBJ and humpty as part of the convoy. Hmmmm My birthday is on the 17th march.... gunna havta find a pub on monday night to down a few green beers for st Patricks day. I am ringing the park today and booking in from wednesday19th to easter sunday. Last years Morgan getogether was only a 3 dayer event and there was plenty of time for socialising and sight seeing. Have notice a thread started by JBJ re "east coasters.to 2008 nats". havent read it yet but will fall in with whatever is happening there... All too easy. Just ring em, tell em when ya comin and when ya leavin', make sure ya tell 'em your with the vint van mob , and pay your deposit.... again all too easy. Just remember its your holiday and ya do what ya like when ya like. like mark mentioned in the initial post.... "Number 1 rule is... There aint no rules"' Wellllllll maybe just one.. having a good time is compulsory ;D Reddo .

Hi All Take the tour. www.mountgambiertourism.com.au/Certainly is a nice place. Hope the lake hasn't started to turn grey when we get there. I am a bit concerned about the possum population . The fiestly little buggers bashed me up at Morgan. Serves me right for being "on the van Park streets" at 2.30am in the morning. Hope none of thier relos are holidaying at Blue lake van Park next year.

Hi all Its is with deep regret that i have to inform you that The reddos ( not sure which ones yet) have just booked in at the van Park from Monday 17th to easter sunday morning 23rd. I understand that may insite riots and rebellion .. in fact we might get a few reports of attempted suicide. If you like ya's can start a petition and form a eureka stockade like blockade at the park gates.... i dont care i am coming to mt Gambier whether ya like it or not......., so there!!! Iasked about keeping numbers and names of who is coming and reserving sites................. Sue at the park has stated that she is giving everyone from vintage vanland the same story. "We are a very large park and we will not be reserving sites for anyone. Just turn up and pick a spot".... she did say that she has no problems with us saving a site either side of the one we pick when we get there. So the plan would be for those that get there early stake out as much turf as you can for those rocking in on monday or tuesday. They require a deposit of one nights accomodation which is $27. cheques to be made payable to Blue lake holiday Park Post to... 'Blue lake holiday Park . P.O.Box 773 Mount Gambier South Australia. 5290 Idea of leaving Sunday is that the roads will be a lot quieter than Easter friday or monday. To me it would be madness to be on the road in an old car towing a van whilever there is a glut of high speed trendys on the road that have no understanding of older slower cars towing old vans. Leaving sunday would mean coping a bit less abuse and not being spat on while being overtaken. Heading east on the T.G.O.R will probably be a lot busier than heading west out into.. no mans land.. The nullaboring. Gunna review my travelling to details and post them on JBJs thread. see yas there. Reddo

hi reddo (and anybody else).
judy has booked us into blue lake and the lady she spoke to said she has reserved a large area (unknown number of sites) for the v.v.'s, so we should all be together but not on pre-arranged individual sites, but we will be in the reserved area.
she also mentioned that strangely dangerous watermelons are DEFINITELY banned.

Hi Margie2. Great to see another 'Mexican' on the site. You will certainly have a shorter trip than some to the Mount in 2008 ( I am 1.5 - 2 hrs the wrong side of Melbourne. What is your V V ? Do you also have a V towcar? We too are looking forward to the stay at the Blue Lakes in '08. Cheers, Tinnie

Tinnie, Thanks for the welcome. It's a bondwood VV, make unknown until we have some input from other members but about late 50's early 60's with original icebox. Presently looking for an old FC/FE/FB station wagon to suit. Will find one before Mt. Gambier. Margie2

Alan Stevens (forum member AUSTIN 125) is assisting with organisation of this event by producing a promotional flier.
The flier was recently put on Ebay, for the list price of $1.00. The flier was placed on Ebay using Ebay as a promotional tool only, not a money making venture.
Alan has some good ideas & is organising some good/fun things for the event.
In true VINTAGECARAVANS.COM style, the event will not be overly organised, but it is appreciated that Alan has offered to put some time into some organisation for the rally.
Stay tuned ......

Hi all,
Well the decision has been made - we are going to join you all at Mount Gambier, yee haa!! ;D ;D
I have already made our booking at Blue Lake Holiday Park.
We will be at Albury/Wodogna up until mid afternoon on Sunday 16th, so won't be at Mount Gambier until sometime on Monday 17th.
Perhaps some of you locals across the NSW/VIC border can give us an idea of the best way to go?. Is it best to stay on the Hume Fwy (M31) all the way to down to the Ring Road North of Melbourne and then (M8) to Ballarat, Hamilton, Coleraine, Casterton, Mt Gambier. Or to stay on the Hume Fwy (M31) to Benalla, then Shepparton, Bendigo, Maryborough, Avoca, Ararat, Hamilton, Coleraine, Casterton, Mt Gambier. Or some other way.
Reddo I know you will be at Albury on the Saturday night and so will be driving from there on the Sunday, which way are you planning on going?
Thanks Diane
