hi all
judy and i have had some discussions and due to a number of reasons, we have decided not to go to the nationals this year, so that means our involvement in the "meander down the murray" will not continue.
we're sorry to have to tell you this news, but that's the way it is.
if anyone else wants to continue with the organisation of the meander, we'd be happy to help where we can.
sorry about that,
geoff 'n jude

G'day Cliff & Ingrid, Geoff and Jude have passed the baton to me so the meander will continue pretty much as before. I have sent a PM to everybody who expressed interest in the meander.... including you ... and am waiting for everybody's reply so I can post more information on the forum. Cobber.

OK Al , Some of the best one night "free camps" are on the track leading to remote Telstra towers..... and they are dotted ALL over this big land .... must admit not many of the old phone boxes left to camp in though Cobber.

G'day Cliff & Ingrid, The only change to the route Geoff and Jude proposed at reply # 13 is on the 29th April... we will go from Tocumwal to Bendigo instead of to Echuca.... that will make the run to Lake Goldsmith on the final day much shorter. Cliff mate ... I sent you a PM on the 30th January, have a look and PM me the response in respect of yourself and the other two 'vans. So this is a rough outline of the route to Lake Goldsmith. Meet at Camden caravan park (the one humpty talked about) on Saturday April 24. April 25 - Camden to Coolac - 316km. April 26 - Coolac to Albury - 211km (527km). April 27 - Albury to Tocumwal - 151km (678km). April 28 - stay at Tocumwal (this allows time to visit museums and have a bit of a rest). April 29 - Tocumwal to Bendigo - 209km (887km). April 30 - Bendigo to lake Goldsmith steam rally - 173km (1060km). stay at the steam rally may 1 (Saturday) and may 2 (Sunday). may 3 to may 8 - back to the Murray via Echuca and amble along the Murray freecamping until we arrive at Mildura on Sunday may 9 - 638km over 7 days (1698km). Of course... anybody can join or leave the meander at any time.... a few mobile phone numbers will be given out later so we can keep in touch with each other. Any questions or comments are welcome. Cobber.

Sounds like a plan, Cobber! As I said in my PM, I won't be going to Bendigo, and will meander to Echuca on my own or with anybody else who's not going to Bendigo.
Ain't flexibility great!! ;D ;D

Hi Cobber, I'm thinking of joining the meander on Saturday night, depending on where you are. Looking at the map I'm guessing Robinvale (85 kms from Mildura), but if you're farther south than that, that will be all to the good - less distance for me to travel on the day. Don Ricardo

I will be coming via Narranderra, Hay, Balranald way so I will probably hook up at robinvale or if I am a day or so earlier maybe swan hill? if that is on your route jennison

Donald Ricardo & Jeff Jennison, We I haven't put much effort into the actual meander along the Murray yet.... but don't worry I we will before it happens. Things like.... how many want to free camp along the river ..... for how many nights in one spot... how many caravans can a spot accomodate... what amenities are available at what spot .... don't worry, she'll be right Donald Saturday night I think you could be right... pretty close to Robinvale... or between there and Mildura, I've heard there are some good spots closer to Mildura... don't worry... she'll be right Jeff.... Swan Hill is on the meander and if you're coming from Balranald either it or Robinvale would be the go. We'll give you a couple of mob phone #s later so you can ring and find where people are. Cobber.

Bendigo!!! Excellent!! Mum and Dad will pick you up here and I'll do my best to get there as well. Failing that, I'll see you at Lake Goldsmith. Any ideas of where you'll be staying? It seems that every VV meeting we have (Vic) I have to race off for some work gig. But this time I have a cunning plan!!! The Navy own a Foden steam truck that is run by volunteers and trainees from HMAS Cerberus that attends this rally every year. Guess who's signing up tomorrow!!!! This will hopefully get me the "time off" that I need to "help" over the weekend. I'll see how I go..... Cheers, John

G'day meanderers, I had a nice chat with Ron (boss cocky at Lake Goldsmith) today. He has assured me there will be absolutely no hassles for us at the event. There is plenty of room for us and our annex/ awning.. I have booked six 'vans in (there is room for more...I think we might have maybe 10 ? ) no need to make individual bookings just let me know and I'll let Ron know next time I'm talking to him. Although there are showers and toilets close by Ron said he will have a portable toilet situated close to our camp site. Food is available in the pavilion but we are welcome to set up a BBQ if we wish. There is no charge for anything …. well... I don't think they'll feed us for free.. but entry, camping and use of the showers is on the house. Lake Goldsmith is a big show and most of the machinery is permanently on site …. even rallies like the Great Dorset one in the UK have to bring everything on site just for the rally, so we'll be able to roam around the sheds an say G'day to the blokes who get a kick out of restoring old stuff. Let's do Vintage caravans.com proud.. bring some of your memorabilia along because we are part of the show. At this point I'm counting Spyder, 54 homemade, Roehm3108, mustangpall, Sandra & John, humpty2 & me... and marjie2, Raym and John from Victoria.... as going to the Lake Goldsmith steam rally. If any of the above can't make it or.... if anybody not mentioned would like to be included.... let me know. Cobber.

Meanderers, The latest on the meander as far as Lake Goldsmith. All caravan parks have a camp kitchen and are dog friendly. Saturday night 24th April Starting at Camden..... the park there has a problem booking seven powered sites for one night only at the start of the Anzac day weekend ....un-powered sites no worries, might get a powered site on the day if you're lucky. Can everybody handle that ? (I haven't booked us in yet) Sunday night 25th April Coolac doesn't have any caravan parks ;D so we move onto Gundagai.... we are booked into the " Gundagai Tourist Park" Monday night 26th April Albury ... we are booked into the " Albury All Seasons Tourist Park" Tuesday night 27th & Wednesday night 28th April Tocumwal.... we have the choice to "free camp" ( no dogs ) or go to the "Boomerang Way tourist Park" (dog friendly) If everybody wants "free camp" there are other sites I can suss out. Thursday night 29th April Bendigo... we are booked into the "Central City Caravan Park"Friday night 30th April..Saturday night 1st May & Sunday night 2nd May Lake Goldsmith Steam Festival... we are booked in. Remember none of this is compulsory.. anybody can stay an extra night at any of the stop-overs or miss a stop-over if they wish but...... I would like you to let me know please (via a PM ) If anybody on the tour has suggestions or comments let me know via a PM please Cobber.
