G'day Kingys, Of course you are welcome to join the meander down the Murray .... and I get the impression that quite a few people like the idea of casually sitting on the banks of the Murray for a few days. Most of those going to Lake Goldsmith will then migrate back to Echuca to start meandering down the Murray, so maybe that's where we could meet up with you. There are a few organisational problems I am discovering regarding the run along the Murray after Lake Goldsmith... so I will be largely solving that problem by not organising that part of the run ..... except to say.... it's there. For instance.... some camp sites have no ammenities.... some sites have rough access to them..... some sites are small.... some charge a fee.....some are suitable for campers only. And.... some people don't mind roughing it, and some do. And......... some people want to go to the river and camp. And ..... some people want to spend time at Ballarat, Echuca and Swan Hill. So......... I hope everybody can appreciate that after Lake Goldsmith you will need to talk to your second best friend and decide what it is you want to do.. then have a talk around the camp each night , if you let others know what you have decided you might just get a party happening . I am sure we will all have a great time in a very beautiful and interesting part of Australia. Cobber.

Thanks Cob, We'll decide where we'll catch up with you lot once we find a safe spot to leave the van when we go to Melb. Can't agree more with what you say in your last coupla paragraphs......we're happy to decide the night before around the fire with a beer ..........The less parks the more we like it, but i realise some need to stay in parks - It's all good ;D Kingy

Geoff Firefighter has been talking to the Bendigo car club and a special treat has been organised for us. The Bendigo car club have offered to host us at their club house for a three course dinner the night we arrive in Bendigo ( Thursday the 29th.) at 6.00pm. The cost is $ 10 per head. This is something the club does regularly whenever a car club goes to Bendigo Geoff tells me, so don't feel as though it is an imposition... they like to do it . The contents of the club house itself are apparently worth seeing and apart from Geoff it is likely Alan (Austin 125) will also be there. The offer has been extended that night to include anybody who is part of the vintagecaravans.com group going to Lake goldsmith or Mildura .So.......... what we need to know is, how many people would like to take advantage of this generous offer made by the Bendigo Car Club ?. Please let me know via a PM ASAP. Those on the run to Lake Goldsmith who have already responded to this invitation.... no need to do it again Cobber.

LAKE GOLDSMITH STEAM RALLYLooking at the Lake Goldsmith web site the other day I found they have a exhibitor Registration form there. I rang the organiser today and told him that I know of twelve vintage caravans from our group who would like to exhibit their 'vans..... but I had to admit that I have been getting the impression that there could be more so........ in order to help them determine how much space they might have to allocate could everybody ( and this includes those on the meander leaving from Camden) who intend exhibiting their vintage caravan (built pre 1969) please copy the form and fire it off to them at your earliest convenience. Again.... you can get the form by clicking here. Cobber.

G'day Geoff 'n Jude, Yes.... excitement mounts, wish you were with us. For various reasons it is going to be a much smaller party leaving Camden, in fact we are giving Camden the flick and starting from the Frank Partridge VC rest area not far from Camden on the Sunday morning. There is only Humpty 2 ...Spyder & myself starting from there. The rest will be catching up at various spots along the way. Lake Goldsmith looks like it is going to be bigger than the Sydney Royal Easter Show. There is a newspaper article just today that indicates they are hoping for around 36 'vans, and they think that's a record. (We will have to gently let them know that record has been broken before... and is about to be broken again aye? While at the Lake we will be talking about the rest of “The Meander” and sort out who wants to do what where when and for how long on the way to Mildura Looking forward to it all. Cobber.

To All Those Attending Mildura Nats this year. Hope you all have a safe and happy trip down and back with no mechanical failures from the towcars or vans. Take regular breaks and dont be in a hurry to get anywhere. Wish i could have come along to the 3rd Vintage van nationals but work dictates that i have to hang close to home this year . Its a bit ironic that we moved the Nats to later in the year to get some cooler weather for travelling.... and here we are in Newcastle with .. 30 degrees today... : Anyway guys ... have a great time.. i will be thinking of you. If there is anything i can do to help out stranded travellers .... tow the van home .. get you home to NSW if something ( god forbid ) does go wrong.... Well just ring me and i will see what i can do to help out from this end... Happy Trails Reddo

Cobber & Evonne arrive in Albury, I just had to be there to see this event & meet some more members. Checking the site location. It was a real treat to watch the vans & towcars pull in, caused quite a bit of interest from the general campers there. Had a great chat to Humpty2, his van has character & extremely well built, it really stood out as I saw it earlier when everyone was making their way through the streets of Albury. Cobber parked here for the night, what a beaut little van, like a beautifully crafted piece of fine furniture on wheels, I have never seen anything like it, the workmanship is superb, the windows are so fine in profile, the fittings throughout are unique, it was pretty exciting to see how everything worked, like the table setup, cupboards under the beds/seats, right down to the unique Tow coupling. It was getting late in the afternoon & wanted to do the 'Don' tour with these guests of a couple hours, so we did a run to our place in the bush & really enjoyed some good company, certainly made my day meeting all who rolled into Albury. Cheers, ST

Ettamogah....can't go past here. No comments please We stayed in Albury that night....met Surftragic then carried on through Rutherglen.....especially the Morris winery "All that and we've only got half an hour here?!!!" "She'll be right Cobber, enjoy what we can" Me,Cobber & Mustangpall We went to a private museum at Corowa and had lunch there, plus a tour of the museum by Gold coin donation. A "Cobber" machine ? don't mince your words here On we went past lake Mulwalla to our overnight stop at Tocumwal where we took in Christies Museum at $2 per person.....BARGAIN! This cockatoo has 1 feather only on his tail! There is actually to much here to post on the whole museum.....you will just have to go there! Me Mate Cobber and a big Cod at Tocumwal similarity is completely co-incidental

I have said it before.... "half the fun of owning the old vans is travelling with them to a destination" Good to see the lake with a bit of water in it too Humpty.... Pushed the wrong damn buttons again ....continuing on... A great dinner at the club rooms in Bendigo . After bendigo we went to Lake Goldsmith for 3 days. More of that on the Lake Goldsmith thread later. We moved on to a park at Arrarat for lunch following Lake Goldsmith. Couldn't resist this shot of Ian & Cobber doing the dishes ;D ;D Then onto a great Caravan Park at Donald....for only $15 a night! Swan Hill....a quick bite and a look around. Then camping for 4 nights at Nyah....this is to be highly reccomended, plenty to see in the area.....only 26 klms out of Swan Hill and right on the river. Town water and toilets a short walk.....and on the final day an old aquaitence of Cobbers gave us access to the footy teams HOT showers! A kingy specialty Yvonne tried upstream, Kingy tried downstream.......all fish are reported to be safe & well. Flash just doesn't do a campfire justice does it!?? Then we drove to Mildura via Robinvale.......but thats another story

Just a few more photos from the meander At the Bendigo car club rooms we were treated to a three course dinner in the company of a number of the members (this photo taken from the opposite end of the room to Humpty's) After Goldsmith Humpty and Cobbers went to have another look at Kevin Wilds museum at Buangor.... hasn't changed much A sportsman lots of us would like to restore. A camper trailer that is claimed to be the oldest in Australia..... We moved onto Ararat for lunch where Humpty caught Ian and I doing the washing up After that we went to Donald to view a caravan (that didn't happen, such is life) but as Humpty has mentioned.. $15 a night in a good CP right beside the lake. The lake... Don't get me wrong...Donald is a great little town with a very alert Newspaper journalist. While Ian and I were in the hardware shop getting fly screen wire to combat the locusts we were run down by this bloke who did a short interview and took two photos, published the story in the following days “The Buloke Times” and sent two copies of the paper to the “Apex Caravan Park” at Mildura AND.... he got the web site address right AND... the photo is in black and white At Nyah.... where we camped for four days, Jennerson arrived just in time to take advantage of the free hot shows mentioned above by Humpty. At the start of the meander the original intention was... after Lake Goldsmith.. to go back to Echuca and meander along the Murray from there. We didn't do that... we went straight to Nyah and camped there, much better idea. However after Mildura I headed back to Echuca and spent a night on the banks of the Murray at “Christie's Beach”... lots of space here although the road can be a bit bumpy, and the “Mighty Murray River” looked a bit sad in this area. Don't worry about the car..... the 'van's level Next day in Echuca we had a bite to eat and listened to live jazz...... I asked them if they could play the Duke Ellington tune “Caravan” (first recorded in 1936 )..... they couldn't Home via Deniliquin, Jerilderie & Wagga Wagga. A good meander with no hassels.... my organising "style" was to accept good ideas from anybody who had one and delegate responsibility to them to implement it..... worked well Cobber.
