Hi there, my old Fairholme arrived today and I am just wanting to know about the gas lights which are "Calor" gas lights made by "Veritas". Is Calor gas the same as LPG? Also I am looking for a glass shade for 1 light and am not sure what type of mantles that they take? Here is a pic of the lights: Thanks, Trish.

Hi Trish, there will be people much more knowledgeable about this gas than me (...cobber, uk brian, etc), so I'll just post this link for you to have a read of the "frequently asked questions" about calor gas... www.calor.co.uk/faq/which-gas.htmNote the information about the two different gases involved, and the need for different regulators depending on the type of gas used. cheers, Al.

Trish, when i migrated here, we bought all our British camping stuff with us. From memory, at the time the Brits used Butane not Propane (LPG) and mostly camping GAZ which is available here, but only in disposable packs from what i saw. We couldn't use our stove as it was a 2 burner that mounted on a 4kg Gaz bottle and couldn't be filled, so Mum and Dad gave up and went LPG.
You should be fine using the commonly available Gasmate mantles as these can be used in most fuel lamps (gas, kero, petrol etc)
As far as gas source and leaks, speak to a local plumber just to be safe. I can't rcall whether LPG and Butane have the same jet sizes and that would be the main concern.

Hi Trish. Just about the gas lights. I have one in my yellow van and ( it may be different in Vic ) but the gas light wont pass when you get a LPG certificate for the van. It is all to do with the on and off valve connected permanently to the line, they were OK back in the 50s but they are a bit dodgey now. I still have mine in the van but it is disconnected and there for show only. (dont tell any one.)
Cheers. Trodler

That's handy info regarding the gas lights.....I didn't really want to hook them back up again in the Carlight. Only decoration. ;D
