I have a large old Viscount van that I have had for 30 plus years. I am considering selling it as it is just taking up space in the shed. Can anyone help with model details please? On the drawbar the number crudely welded appears to be 11289. Maybe... please see attached photo.

Hi boltthecolt, I found some info on your van that makes it about 1961-63,it’s a Viscount palace 25x8.its only the second one I’ve seen, the first belonged to a couple that lived on our property when I was about 6or7.They bought it to live in while they saved for a house ( some things never change) Does yours have a shower and wardrobes each side of the back window?Today that is still called a Palace back in the caravan trade. I found a floorplan and brochure that I will ask Don Ricardo to put up as I don’t have a clue about posting pics. Hope this helps Cheers hughdeany

Hi Boltthecolt,
Just adding to Hughdeany's information, the serial number on your van is actually 'N1289', but the 'N' is partially covered under the safety chain.
I've checked the number against Twocutekelpies' Viscount register and N1289 would have been built in 1963. That matches up with the side decoration panels, which would once have been painted in a colour.
The 'N' indicates that the van was built in the Viscount Sydney factory (N=NSW).
I've received the photos from Hughdeany and will post them for you tomorrow (Friday) when I get a chance. Sorry for the delay.

HI Boltthecolt, Here are the photos from Hughdeany: The first photo is of a later model Palace than yours - 1965 I think, but according to Hughdeany the layout may be similar? The second and third photos are from 1961/2. The 21ft Mobile Home is a tandem and has the two doors like yours. It seems that the length of the Palace model varied a bit over time. The 1965 model above was 25ft long, but the 1963 Palace referred to in the list here was 23ft long. I would be interested to hear if that's the length of yours (measuring just the length of the cabin, 30 cm up from the floorline). In terms of livery, with the painted panels, your van would have looked the same as this van, except with out the 'V' shape at the front below the windows (that was a Victorian factory decoration). Wow. Thanks so much for all this Don. So lovely to see. :-) I measured mine, and the internal cabin length is 6.5m (21.3ft). It would be greater except that the draws under the rear window take up a bit of space. The external length of the body is 7.1m (23.3ft). Unfortunately, I can't make out any of the text on the floor plan but it would appear to have the same layout.

It just occurred to me. When taking the internal cabin measurement at 30 cm above the floor line, when I hit the draws in the bedroom, should I have removed a draw and measured to the interior wall? If so the measurement would have been more like 23ft. thanks again, Mark

Hi bolt, Back then Viscount only used external body measurements 12 inches above the floor end to end, It’s only in the last few years manufacturers have measured internally as most vans now include a front boot which adds up to 18 inches to the length so people think they are buying a bigger van.😳 Cheers hughdeany
