Hi all,
I'm in the process of renovating the Valiant (Viscount) and both this van and my Globetrotter have rear (red) reflectors fitted as well as tail-lights. Both vans were previously owned by the same owner.
I understand the safety factor of reflectors, but bearing in mind that it is preferable to be at your destination before nightfall, I am wondering if they were generally a factory fitted item to most caravans.
Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

Hi Daggsey, Marvin (late 40s/early 50s) had reflectors originally. The round orange ones were reflectors - I have now replaced them with red ones that work. Alan

Hi Daggsey, I have a copy of the April 1969 NSW Department Of Motor Transport regulations with respect to the construction of caravans, which state the following:
"Reflectors: Two red reflectors must also be fitted at the rear of the trailer not more than 3 feet 6 inches above the ground, and, if the trailer is less than 7 feet in width, these should be placed within 16 inches of its full width. If the trailer is 7 feet of more in width, the reflectors should be placed within 9 inches of its full width."
You can only use this info as a guideline, since it relates to NSW only, and is 1969 vintage. I have no idea what the regulations would have been in your home state, or what would have been applicable to your vans at the time of build.
cheers, Al.
