G'day All, Showing below is a one page summary of the Victorian Caravan Regulations applicable in 1957-1958. Useful if you are looking at taking your 57/58 Victorian van back to original specifications ( or for showing the bureaucrats that you are trying to make it historically correct)... cheers, Al.

Hi Al,
Nice find and very helpful. This answers some of the questions that have been raised at various times on the forum, eg when did a caravan or trailer have to be registered and when did it not. We were speculating that it may have something to do with the trailer being used commercially, and the regs indicate that this was the case.
Also helpful regarding the lighting requirements of the time. I'm a bit puzzled regarding the side marker lamps though. The regs specify at least two side marker lamps showing amber to the front and red to the back, subject to width considerations. Our van just has a single amber side marker lamp. Maybe there was a change in the regs sometime between 1949 and 1957, or maybe at 6 foot 4 inches our van was less than 6 inches wider on each side than the tow vehicle and didn't need the full kit?
Anyway a really useful post. Thanks.
Don Ricardo
