Hi Kerri,
Always a bit risky to identify a van sight unseen, but on the basis of the info you've provided, it sounds like a 1974 Viscount Royal.
If you post some photos we can confirm the van's identity.
A new project for you?

Yes, that chassis number is from the 1970s. It decodes as follows: R = the 'Royal' model Viscount the first number, 4 = 1974 the remaining numbers 8810 = the 8,810th chassis built in 1974, which would have been pretty close to the end of that year. And just so there's no confusion, this numbering system is only applicable to Viscounts built from 1973 up to 1979 (inclusive). cheers, Al. Edit, oops DonR, you beat me to it!!

Hi Al, only up to 1978, from 1979-1981 the chassis numbers all began with 9 and were consecutive. 90000- approx 92000 = 1979, then up to approx 96200 = 1980, then up to 99999 = 1981
