Sorry OP, but our Forum guidelines do not allow us to discuss prices.

Hi If you were looking at a car in poor condition, your brain would be immediately racking up the dollars required for a resto, this in turn would soon have you making an offer. An old caravan in poor condition is no different, these are some things to base your offer on:

12. Water Tank
13. Water Fittings
14. Water Pump
15. Mains Pressure System
16. Sink & Plug, Drains

Hi Mikesh0r3x, Welcome to the forum. Great to hear that you're considering buying a vintage caravan. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with us if you decide to proceed. Mustang has provided you with a great list of things to look at in terms of the condition of the caravan you're considering, and what you may need to deal with if you buy it. If you work through that list, nobody will be able to accuse you of not having done your homework! Roehm3108 is right about there being a forum policy about not discussing prices on the open forum (see here). We're not just being difficult about that though. There are a couple of good reasons for it. First, there is no reliable guide (at this stage anyway) as to what a vintage caravan is worth. Unlike cars, there isn't a Glass's guide for the value of vintage caravans. As the policy says: "The value of vintage caravans varies widely according to the age, scarcity, condition and desirability of the caravan in question. In the end, the value of a caravan depends on what one person is willing to pay another at a given time, based on their specific interests and preferences." And of course the issue of 'condition' is where Mustang's list comes in if your considering refurbishing a vintage van. The second reason for the policy is that we found that before its introduction, discussion of prices on the forum opened up the opportunity for people on the forum to unfairly talk up or talk down the price of a van that was possibly being sold by another forum member. Probably your best bet regarding judging a price is to have a look at what is being sold on Ebay or Gumtree and compare it to the price you are being asked to pay, just remembering that Gracemurs and their Sunliner siblings are relatively popular at the moment and therefore can command a higher price than, say, a bondwood caravan. Good luck with your decision making. If you do go ahead, be sure that you'll get lots of support from people on the forum. There are quite a few people here who have refurbished/re-built Sunliners, and have the experience to give good advice if you need it. Don Ricardo

Hi . several years ago friends of mine dragged a Sunliner out of a paddock , cost a few hundred dollars , they worked on it for a year . and i purchased it from them $4500 . turned out to be a good deal as in my opinion it now would sell for $10,000 in a very short time . and some are on the market for over $20,000 . i think that the market has stabilized and the time of finding Sunliners in Paddocks for a few hundred is very unlikely .But if you can wait you never know what will turn up . If the seller does not know what to ask and you do not know what to offer it can be difficult . good luck ,cheers kel.

Thanks guys for the great replies and advice. Jeez , quite a bit to consider - Im a first timer when it comes to this sort of thing. Its actually not to terribly looking. I think it is towable still and wiring seems ok-ish. I hope I can get away with under 2k ?!
I have to travel to see it again and it does require time, no photos yet unfortunately
