PRE-1970’S CARAVANS
The primary focus of this forum is AUSTRALIAN VINTAGE CARAVANS, defined as pre-1970 manufactured or homemade caravans and teardrop caravans. We are passionate about preserving and restoring old caravans, campers and camping trailers.
FORUM BEHAVIOUR
VINTAGECARAVANS.COM is a family website, and all contributors are asked to be mindful of this at all times. Further information about acceptable forum behaviour can be found in the Vintage Caravans Forum Terms of Use
Sexist, racist or homophobic posts are NOT ACCEPTABLE and will be removed or edited as appropriate.
TOW CARS
Discussion about the tow cars that we use to tow our vintage caravans IS WELCOME. However, while we acknowledge some people use modern vehicles to tow their vintage caravans, discussion about cars should be limited to matching period vehicles (to our caravans). We define a suitable tow car for a vintage caravan as a vehicle manufactured up to 1979. Cars built in 1980 or later are considered to be modern cars. At the same time, discussion of towing issues or difficulties involving vintage caravans and either period or modern cars is permitted.
COLLECTABLES/MEMORABILIA
Discussion about the collectables/memorabilia that we use in, or to decorate our vintage caravans is MOST WELCOME. You are also most welcome to discuss period caravan equipment.
4WD VEHICLES
Discussion about the virtues of modern four wheel drive vehicles compared to two wheel drive cars is NOT WELCOME. There are plenty of 4WD forums...unless of course its a pre-1980 Land Rover, Land Cruiser, or similar, and used to tow a vintage caravan.
REPLICA & REPRODUCTION CARAVANS
Discussion about replica or reproduction caravans & teardrops is WELCOME, provided that they correctly REPLICATE a caravan or teardrop from the past, and NOT a person’s own interpretation of what they should look like. To be a REPLICA, they should be built from a design from the 1930's, 40's, 50's or 60's and be fitted with period mudguards, lights, fittings and fixtures etc, reproduction or original.
Whether or not the replica/reproduction caravan or teardrop caravan/trailer/camper is on an original chassis is not considered to be relevant.
Discussion, photos and links relating to modern interpretations of vintage teardrop caravans (such as REO caravans or similar) is NOT WELCOME
MODIFICATION OF VINTAGE CARAVANS FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES
vintagecaravans.com does not support the modification of vintage caravans for commercial purposes, or for purposes other than what were originally intended by the manufacturer. Members who indicate an intention to modify a caravan in that way will receive an email, personal message or posting on the forum from the moderators explaining the forum policy on altering vans for commercial use. If you have a pre-1970 van that was built as a commercial van they are accepted on this forum.
GAMES & COMPETITIONS
Guessing games and competitions are WELCOME, but must be vintage caravan related and pre-authorised by the Administrator. Please email or PM the Administrator if you wish to start a guessing game or competition.
OVERSEAS MEMBERS & GUESTS
Overseas members & guests with an interest in vintage caravans are MOST WELCOME to join and participate in our discussions. We enjoy and encourage ALL overseas participation, photos & discussions.
1970’S CLASSIC CARAVANS
A separate forum for post 1970's caravans (caravans manufactured between 1st January 1970 and 31st December 1979) which are referred to as "Classic Caravans", can be found by clicking clicking here.
VALUING CARAVANS
The value of vintage caravans varies widely according to the age, scarcity, condition and desirability of the caravan in question. In the end, the value of a caravan depends on what one person is willing to pay another at a given time, based on their specific interests and preferences. For this reason we ARE NOT ABLE to assist in valuing caravans.

Any links posted to items on Ebay should be directly related to Vintage Caravans or to caravanning prior to 1970. Links which in the opinion of the moderators do not meet this requirement will be deleted.
