Thank you to everyone who came along and made our weekend such a success. It was lovely to meet some new people, see lots of familiar faces and so many amazing vintage vans. We were asked by many of you if it will become an annual event and we do have something in mind for next year. Something a little different though

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Marcus and Alison for a very well organized and run event. We had a great time and are sorry we could not stay for the Saturday fun but will make sure we make the next one wherever it may be. Cheers from Jenny and Mad Max.

Hi all, Dona Ricardo and I would like to second Scruffy64's and others' words in thanking "Florence and Bert" (great expression Scruffy64 ) for an exceptional weekend at Maldon/Baringhup. It was a great time, and exceptionally well organised. Thanks also to the folks at the Loddon House Holiday Park. It was a great venue for our get together. Altogether we had a ball, and it was lovely to catch up with vintage vanners we already knew, people that we'd met through the forum but not in person, and a whole group of vintage vanners whom we hadn't met before. Also of particular interest to me, was that I came away from Baringhup with quite a few bits and pieces of historical info which I'll post on the relevant threads over time. Following on from SGTL's posts, I thought I'd show you some more of the vans that were there, but won't double up on those that she has already posted - with one exception, for reasons I'll explain when I get to that point. There were a few vans there that have unknown origins, and I didn't get to meet everyone at the weekend, but I'll do my best to identify the vans and their owners where I can. Apologies to those I don't know, but if anyone can tell us more about the mystery vans, or want to tell us which are their vans, that'd be great. Sara's 1970's Franklin Hunter: Simone & Alex's mid-60's Norwegian Lillebror Chateau Mobile: 1967 Franklin Caravelle: Coronet's 1968 Coronet: Viscount Valiant/Ambassador(?): Van registered as a Gray: Bert66's Franklin: Lyn & Mike's 1947 homebuilt caravanette: One of the standout attendances was by a posse of Vacation caravans, which not so long ago were unknown to us - starting with Frances' circa 1958 model... ...a late 50's/early 60's Vacation... ...an early 60's Vacation... ...and Prem's 1966 Vacation: It's always fascinating to see a range of vans from the one manufacturer showing how they developed over the years. Yellowspinner's Viscount Valiant: 1970's Regent caravan, branded as a Customline, and sold by Judd & Innes - thanks to Hughdeani for identifying this one (see post below): Ian & Sharon's little mystery van - more to come on this one! Ian & Joy's Safetee De Luxe caravanette: Ian & Joy's homebuilt: Miami Princess: Late 60's Sandrover: And Gilbert and his wife brought two vans, their 1956 Globe Trotter... ...and their 1946 homebuilt which only had some of its furnishings finished the night before (great effort you two! )... ...both of which SGTL has already shown you. My reason for showing them again is the sign erected between the two vans, which really tickled me: More to come! Don Ricardo

Hi all, Some more vans from the great vintage caravan get together at Maldon/Baringhup last weekend... Yve's 1954/5 Don 120: 1965 NSW-built Viscount: Late 70's Millard: Repro teardrop: Fiona & Darren's Hilandale Panther: Barb & Billy's mysterious Hawthorn - more to come on this one: The owners of this beautiful tandem told us that it is a homebuilt with some links to Franklin - possibly built by a Franklin tradesman... ...however, without meaning any disrespect to them, I am personally wondering if it isn't Huntsman-built. It seems to have a lot of Huntsman features. Caravan of unknown origins - could it be a Supalite Week-Enda? 1970's Capricorn van branded as, and probably sold second hand by 'Clarks Caravans' - thanks to Hughdeani for identifying this one (see post below): Wal & Anna's Olympic Debonair: Cath's homebuilt 'Rosie'. Great to see this van again - one of Reddo's top refurbishment efforts: A beautifully refurbished Franklin with its brand new awning (on its way down to be packed up) - the owner works for a caravan services outfit. Can you tell?: Repro caravanette based on Scot's Trail van: Greg's 1962 Wanda - more to come on this one: 1957 Phoenix: 1969 Viscount: 1970's Capricorn: Late 60's/early 70's Viscount: Redmr2red's teardrop repro - keeping out of the sun : Oh yes, and Dona Ricardo and I were there too: So, all in all a great roll-up of vans. Apologies to any that SGTL and I have missed between us. Don Ricardo

Hi Don, The little Customline was made by Regent caravans ( not the same as the current Regent caravans) Sold by Judd and Innes caravans of Dandenong. Looks like the original stripe to me. Can't wait to see the info on the little silver van with the Franklin wheelspats! Cheers hughdeani

G'day Hughdeani, I love your work! Thanks for that info. I'll amend the posts accordingly. Next vintage van outing...you need to be there to identify all those vans from the 60's and 70's that puzzle the rest of us! What about it? Don Ricardo PS You don't happen to know what the van registered as a 'Gray' is while you're at it, do you?

Hi all, The Maldon/Baringhup wasn't all just admiring caravans. Marcus and Alison had arranged a number of activities for us. One was a car rally on the Saturday afternoon which involved us taking a round trip of about 80 kms from Baringhup through Maldon, Welshmans Reef, Newstead, Guildford, Vaughan Springs, Irishtown, Fryerstown, Chewton, Castlemaine and back to camp, or the reverse depending on which bag of clues you picked up. As we went through each place we had to stop and find out the answer to a long list of questions, almost as l-o-n-g as Lucille Ball's long, long trailer! Only one team managed to get through the whole course without running out of time, but it was a great way to get to know the area around Maldon and some of its history. Because we were on the go the whole time, there wasn't time to take photos, but as part of the rally we did have to take photos of ourselves undertaking various tasks and text them in. The tasks included, taking a photo of ourselves next to Santa at the Christmas Shop in Maldon... ...taking a photo of ourselves with a kangaroo (the winner of this item used roadkill )... ...riding down the long and exceedingly hot slide at Vaughan Springs... ...taking a photo of our team in a phone box at Chewton (not many phone boxes around now we noticed)... ...and taking a photo of ourselves beside Thomas at Maldon: One thing I did take a photo of was the 'Big Tree' at Guildford. What a magnificent specimen - 34 metres high, 9.35 metres around, and estimated to be 500+ years old: Also sighted during the rally was a Roadhaven tandem in a yard in Baringhup itself - also a magnificent specimen! On Saturday evening we all got together for a BBQ down near the river, thanks to a great BBQ provided by the Maiden Gully-Marong Lions Club: A few shots of folks enjoying the time together: Marcus and Alison chatting with other attendees... ...and handing out the prizes for the car rally: On Sunday morning we had the opportunity to visit Graham & Linda Southey's 'Dunolly's Nuggets & Treasures' store and caravan museum in the main street of Dunolly - you can't miss it: Graham is Tubbygra61 on the forum. The caravan museum includes, Graham's 1956 Flynn... ...a homebuilt van with aluminium cladding rescued from an old aircraft... ...a Propert Folding Caravan... ...and two Roadhavens. The Loddon House Holiday Park was a great place to stay for the weekend (or longer!). Where else do you find a caravan park with its own tavern... ...night club... ...and a thong tree? For those of us who enjoy a good coffee - or a milk shake or spider - one of Marcus and Alison's great - some would say best - ideas was to invite sisters Nareena and Natalie to come for the weekend and bring along their new 'Betty & Ruby' coffee van, which is named after their grandmothers: Nareena and Natalie only began their venture at the end of January. The van is a 1970 Franklin Regent which apparently was in a very sad state until it was rebuilt by the girls and their father. The van has been done really well, including new flat cladding which looks very effective: Natalie and Nareena with one of their best customers - Dona Ricardo: There's no doubt about it, with the coffee van and the other activities, Marcus and Alison have definitely lifted the bar for vintage van outings! So here's cheers until the next one... ...with Betty & Ruby coffee cup in hand! Don Ricardo

Postscript: I've heard a vague whisper that vintage vanners also have an interest in classic tow vehicles, so just in case the rumour's true, here's a few from the weekend: Yve's 1960 Chev and Don: Gilbert's 1948 Wolseley and homebuilt... ...and Falcon and Globe Trotter: Ian & Sharon's Datsun 1300 Ute with their mystery van: Sportsman1's Vauxhall Vagabond and Clipper: Thunderbird and Viscount: Billy and Barb's Thunderbird and Hawthorn: Ford and 'Rosie': Mustang and van: Greg's Dodge Phoenix and Wanda: Tubbygra51's Holden and van: There were some other beautiful tow vehicles I missed (apologies to their owners) - but altogether there were some pretty stunning vehicles on show. Thanks to Alison & Marcus. I have just about recovered from the hectic weekend. I was absolutely "stuffed" after completing only the Maldon part of the observation trial. If you do that again please give fair warning so as I can go into fitness training some months prior. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and look forward to what you may have in store for your future vintage van outings. BUT remember some of us are AGED. Frances.

PS You don't happen to know what the van registered as a 'Gray' is while you're at it, do you? Just a theory, but could it possibly be a C H-Gray van? That would explain the rego and From what I can see from the photo and taking away the obvious differences in the cladding profile and the front windows. the overall shape of the van, the step and the wheel arch are all very similiar to our Gray built Harris Van it would be interesting to see the inside of the van to see if there are any other similarities.

Hi Jp63, Thanks for that thought. I had noticed the same things and had the same question rolling around in my brain. But you are much more familiar with C H Gray vans than I am - after rebuilding yours you know it inside out - so your comment is particularly interesting. Unfortunately I don't have any inside photos, but I do have a photo of the rear. I'll post them on the DHL Gray thread in the next day or two and you can tell me what you think. Don Ricardo
