Hi guys, just thought it best to say G'day and introduce myself. I'm new to this and have a particular aim in mind. I'm 28 year old engineer from NQ with a bit of a thirst to have a crack at a renovation! I'm looking around for a vintage caravan to renovate into a travelling caravan. 10 11ft or so. I'll keep lurking around here but just thought I'd say hi. Thanks! Phil

G'day Phil, Welcome to the forum... you've come to the right place if you're searching for a vintage van to restore, they just keep on coming on, even if it might only be a link to a van somebody has spotted on eBay or gumtree. What is your preference, plywood, aluminium or fibreglass and.... do you intend to restore, renovate or rebuild ( Just thought I'd ask)
Cobber.

Cobber. Hi cobber. Thanks for that. I'm looking forward to having a go... Will test my handyman limits that's for sure. I've no considered fibreglass. More so ply or aluminium just because I think would be easier to paint and renovate... I could be wrong! My plan is to renovate into a bit of of travelling Cafe... Anyone with advice on that I would be happy be advised! I've noticed most are down south. So naturally transport is going to a big issue I guess... But I will have to cross that bridge when I get there. Thanks!

G'day Phil, Lots of people hit the forum running and somehow miss reading the form guidelines (click here) which indicate that the forums original intention was to rescue, restore and preserve Australia's touring heritage ...... a grand idea aye ? However.... it's a 'Guideline' not a 'Rule' and over the years it has been ignored and watered down somewhat I personally would hope you don't get to many leads to plywood caravans (unless they have already been butchered for commercial use) (1) Because I love 'em. (2) Because they are rare. (3) Because they don't last long if exposed to the elements and (4) Because post 1980 aluminium caravans make for much better 'travelling cafes' Good luck with your project, I'll buy a cuppa from you if we cross paths Cobber.

Oops well a little embarrassed and feel a bit sheepish for saying that. Apologies... Thanks for pointing that out... I did not mean any disrespect from it! Thanks for the well wishes.

G`Day Phil, with your skills i would look at getting a cheap wreck, with an ok chassis- suspension, possibly being of the later "classic era even", than what you may be looking at & re sheathing/cladding it to suit what sort of Vintage/Classic look you are after, it will make getting the thing certifed for food prep/ gas certificates a lot easier and give a great feel to entice punters to say G`Day & buy something. A dead pop top rebuilt into a Vintage style shape "show & sell" device may just be what you are after!

Have a look at Woody Caravans - they are located in qld , Sunshine Coast I think . They have a Facebook page , their speciality is what you are after !
I have no connection , but was very impressed with their product.
