It looks like we will have a good group of vans joining us at Cowra for the Toodle through the countryside to SWR. I hope that you have booked your sites at the caravan parks listed as they may not hold them for us if they don't get bookings soon. Now go tell the boss that you are disappearing for a couple of weeks and slap a new coat of paint on the van as it is only 13 months till we hit the road.

Just a reminder to all the potential travellers who are intending to come along on the tour from Cowra to South West Rocks to book their sites, just click on the link below for contact details for the various parks. As stated previously, the journey will take us through the back blocks and small country towns and I have purposely avoided the larger towns and caravan parks. This is not a blast up the highway but hopefully a leisurely wander through some varying and beautiful country. As a result the route will be; Cowra Monday 28 March 2016 Via Bathurst Via Kandos Rylstone Tuesday 29 March 2016 Via Muswellbrook Nundle Wednesday 30th March 2016 Via Tamworth Walcha Thursday 31 March 2016 Via Rosewood Via Kempsey South West Rocks Friday 1 April 2016 Potentially you could stop for another night between Walcha and South West Rocks in order to arrive on the Saturday 2 April for the official commencement of the National Gathering. I believe that there are some beautiful free or low cost camp sites as you come through the forest between Walcha and Wauchope which I have not included as a `official' destination as I have no idea of the number of vans and the capability of these places to accommodate them but you are welcome to drop off the tail should you choose. Those forum members living in the Sydney/Newcastle region could potentially join us at Nundle or Walcha. Just click on the link below for contact details which you need to complete your own accommodation bookings. Most parks do not require a deposit at this time but some areas have other events at the same time so it would be wise to make your bookings now rather than leaving it to the last minute. A group booking has been made at each park in the name `Vintage Caravans.com'. Should anyone have any difficulty opening this file then please send me a Personal Message so that I can sort it out, alternatively I can be contacted by phone on 0404 468 560. Please also send me a PM with your name and phone number when you have completed your bookings just so I can keep track of how many are coming along. vintagecaravans.proboards.com/attachment/download/2268Read more: vintagecaravans.proboards.com/post/new/14110#ixzz3Wg21cMEo

Another update, at this time 14 people (vans) have indicated that they are interested in coming along on the tour. There is still room for more vans but it looks like we will have a good group who will join us from widespread parts of the country including Tasmania.
To avoid disappointment I recommend that you contact the caravan parks ASAP to secure your sites.

We don't have the time to join your leisurely tour unfortunately but if anyone knows of a more direct/quicker tour from Melbourne or Newcastle we'd be interested. Or maybe we can just jump on the end of your tour for the last hoorah into SW Rocks... Lisa & Rob

Hi....Just having a look at the planned route. A question for those with local knowledge. We will be powered by a grey motor and are wondering what the terrain is like? ...Scot

Hi Scot Sorry for the delay replying. I cannot claim to have travelled the entire route and maybe some others with more local knowledge could step in with better advice for you but I think it is fair to say that we will be travelling through a wide variety of terrain which is why I chose this route. The most challenging will be the drop down to the coast from Walcha where drum brakes would get a fair workout if you have a heavy van with over ride brakes. Scot we have mostly easy days with short distances to enable you to look around rather than just blast through in a hurry to get to the next destination so you could just plod along taking it easy on that grey motor. If you are worried about any section being too hard on your car then I don't mind coming back to take your van through that section for you as I will be towing with a diesel 4wd. Forum members are fairly flexible people and helping others just adds to the adventure and gives us something to chat about at happy hour. Koala

Hi Ray Welcome along, yes please call the parks yourself ASAP and mention that you are with the Vintage Caravan Group or mention my name (Ken Herne)
Hi Graeme, Welcome to you as well. We hope that you have a great trip across. That is something on my bucket list, don't know why, there is just something about crossing Australia.
The idea is of the trip from Cowra is to provide am opportunity to link up and do a bit of exploring on the way to the Nationals. Other than the route and where we stay I do not intend to do much organising, I have purposely selected a route through the backblocks and some smaller country caravan parks. Hopefully we will have a hot shower, clean facilities and some grass to sit around on to have happy hour. Koala

Hi Koala!!! Would like to tag on from Cowra to SWR if that's O/K. I'm traveling from Wodonga via Coolamon and Grenfel, and have booked accommodation at the prescribed caravan parks at the allotted stops along the route. I'm camping in a 1977 12 Ft. Franklin Hunter my tow vehicle is a 2002 Mitsu Verada, I was wondering if you could be more specific regarding the proposed route, I just love reading maps, still live in a different age and trying to cope. Jon. PS will contact you to confirm.

I have prepared the following maps to assist the intrepid travellers intending to join us for the tour from Cowra to SWR. Note that I hope that travellers will meander a bit to take in the sights, the kilometres each day should be covered easily by older cars towing caravans with no pressure to get to the destination. There are some steeper parts particularly down the mountain from Walcha so I suggest that you make sure that your car and van brakes are working correctly. Click on the following links. Cowra to Rylestone r.whereis.com/qso6FQ7Rylestone to Nundle r.whereis.com/9h2CdlcNundle to Walcha r.whereis.com/kzCGjePWalcha to SWR r.whereis.com/RfMr5fSIf the link does not work you may need to cut and paste into your browser. I have no way of knowing how many vans will actually turn up at Cowra or join us along the way but a very rough estimate could be over 20 vans. Only a couple of weeks to go..........see you at Cowra. OK, so I have had a bit of a brain fart and come up with a brilliant idea which potentially, maybe, could help to promote our hobby and even make you famous To follow through with this idea I need to have a better idea of the number of vans and a bit more info like year and make of your van and tow car. This will do for now but if this idea works I will fill you in at Cowra. Maybe nothing will come of it but it would be great anyway if those actually confirmed to join the tour from Cowra to SWR or join anywhere along the way could sent me a update email with their intentions to jherne@bigpond.net.au For your security please don't reply on the forum.
