Early days I know but if there is enough interest I will organise a small tour to the 2016 Nationals for those coming from the south and west. The idea is to meet at Cowra NSW and travel north using the inland route taking about four or five days to reach South West Rocks. Haven't done any work on it yet but the route would be something like; Cowra Monday 28 March Rylstone Muswellbrook Nundle Tamworth Walcha Wauchope Kempsey South West Rocks arriving on Friday 1 April Depending on numbers we may do a night or two free camping as we pass through some beautiful country. Please post any interest and ideas on this thread and we will see what we can pull together. Note that this tour has been sanctioned by god almighty. Now go grease those wheel bearings as you are running out of time with just 16 months until we head off. Koala

Hi Koala,
Only sixteen months to go??? Practically round the corner!
We should be freer to participate in a tour than previous Nationals where it has been a case of dash there, dash back, so we'll put our hand up as being interested.
Because of our set up, we are dependent on electricity - as in power points - so free camping probably won't work for us, but maybe we and anybody in the same boat can find somewhere with a power point on those nights...

If northerners are also allowed on the tour you can count me in as a firm 'maybe'.

The tour from Cowra to the Nationals sounds great. I did the southern leg tour to the Canberra Centenary last year. What a great time it was. Count me in.

If 1975 classic vans are allowed i would love to join in, as long as i am south enough for time/funds to allow it.

I think that Happy Hour on the first night will be the appropriate forum for Classic Van owners to convince Vintage Van owners why they should join the tour ?? Koala I would like to think that by Happy Hour on the first night it would be a hell yeah as to why pre 1980s van owners should mingle with the experts See also vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/14160/displaying-caravan I hope it is in the right area for such discussion. 20 odd years ago i used to avoid "chats" about how various 1970s onwards Rovers & Humbers should not be allowed on rallies, hopefully we do not have to wait for the VV crowd to be stuck in nursing homes, before we take over the roads! LoLz

If anyone is in any doubt about who can join the tour.................there is only one requirement...........to have a sense of humour. I don't make the rules for this forum and as far as I am concerned anyone from anywhere can join the tour in any van they like. I am only creating the environment for like minded people to come together and hopefully have a good time, it is up to you to do the rest. Koala

Anyone without a sence of humour will normally give up their project by the first or third hurdle or being outraged at spending $50 postage/freight for something needed that costs $1.25 or was donated gratis..if you pay the poastage!

If 1975 classic vans are allowed i would love to join in, as long as i am south enough for time/funds to allow it. G'day Atefooterz, There have been a few comments made in response to your query above, but I thought it was worth underlining that you shouldn't have any concerns about not being welcome at the 2016 Nationals because your van is from the Classic era and is not a vintage vans. This Vintage Caravans forum has been established as a place to talk and share information about pre-1970's caravans, and the Vintage Caravan Nationals are official vintagecaravans.com events. However, speaking as one of the organisers of the last two Nationals, the events were open to anybody with an interest in vintage caravans, and were attended by people in Classic vans. People in post-1979 vans also attended with friends in vintage vans, as did people who just wanted to find out more about vintage vans. I'm not involved in organising the 2016 Nationals - it will be organised by the sponsor of the vintagecaravans.com website, Mark T and several others - but I haven't heard any mention of a change of policy regarding who can attend. If there is a change I'm sure Mark T will make an announcement, but in the meantime you and any other Classic van owners should plan on being at what is sure to be another great event. Don Ricardo

Thanks Don, looking forwards to it and will lock in when i finally get my replacement credit card, silly season & banks do not mix well, lost card/cancelled card, 1 week later someone used it to clock up just under $2000 of merch, food etc on a PIN Protected cancelled card! So they cancelled the old account and will give me an all new one... soon, when i said early 2015 the bank rep said no, i then pointed out that their 4-5 working days meant best case 2nd Jan 2015 onwards = sigh. If all goes well i may even be joining 2016 with a replica Classic Franklin haha!

Now we just need to find a tour from Melbourne to Cowra ? Hi Murray, I reckon that there's a pretty good chance that there will be something organised from Melbourne to Cowra. There will certainly be some V V'ers heading out from Melbourne, us included, so a combined Tassie/Victorian convoy sounds like a great idea. Don Ricardo

Good to see the number of vans increasing? It seems like we will be in for a good time, another bonus is that we can pre view any new vans before the masses at Sth West Rocks. Koala

Sorry a little off track, but I think it's great to see that the classic vans are welcome too. The whole goal for most is to get out and enjoy our vans and to travel this great country. The King Fisher's certainly have no problems with classics coming along and we welcome anyone (even tenters ). Remember there will come a time and the goal post for defining a vintage van may change, and suddenly include a range of classic vans as they get older. When this happens I hope that we haven't alienated and discouraged any of the classic fraternity from participating in our vintage forum.

The funnier part would be for numerous "Classic Van types" roaming around on vintage plates.. and still ongoing forum discussion, is there a vintage & classic tent mob? ( LoLz) I would love to commit but at this stage may have a classic replica..and no cash.. or just no cash or be too far away, such is the life of a "Schwarzkopf Nomad"

Hi and welcome to all the potential travellers who are intending to come along on the tour from Cowra to South West Rocks. I have been doing a bit of research to attempt to put together a route which will be both interesting and does not involve too many kilometres each day. The journey will take us through the back blocks and small country towns and I have purposely avoided the larger towns and caravan parks. This is not a blast up the highway but hopefully a leisurely wander through some varying and beautiful country. As a result the route will be; Cowra Monday 28 March 2016 Via Bathurst Via Kandos Rylstone Tuesday 29 March 2016 Via Muswellbrook Nundle Wednesday 30th March 2016 Via Tamworth Walcha Thursday 31 March 2016 Via Rosewood Via Kempsey South West Rocks Friday 1 April 2016
Potentially you could stop for another night between Walcha and South West Rocks in order to arrive on the Saturday 2 April for the official commencement of the National Gathering. I believe that there are some beautiful free or low cost camp sites as you come through the forest between Walcha and Wauchope which I have not included as a `official' destination as I have no idea of the number of vans and the capability of these places to accommodate them but you are welcome to drop off the tail should you choose. Apart from providing the route and location for overnight stops I do not intend to do much else toward organisation of this tour, the rest is up to you. I will however endeavour to provide you at Cowra with information on the regions which we will travel through which I will obtain from the various information centres in advance. I welcome any comments both positive and negative which may help us all to enjoy the tour.
Just click on the link below for contact details which you need to complete your own accommodation bookings. Most parks do not require a deposit at this time but some areas have other events at the same time so it would be wise to make your bookings now rather than leaving it to the last minute. A group booking has been made at each park in the name `Vintage Caravans.com'. Should anyone have any difficulty opening this file then please send me a Personal Message so that I can sort it out, alternatively I can be contacted by phone on 0404 468 560. Please also send me a PM with your name and phone number when you have completed your bookings just so I can keep track of how many are coming along.

Here is a great idea for those vintage vanners who live in the Newcastle/Sydney areas and are travelling to the nationals. Why don't you join up with us at Rylstone or Nundle for a the last legs to South West Rocks?? No need to come to Cowra.

G'day Ken, Sounds good, why didn't I think of that ... along the Putty road to Singleton then onto Nundle is a good tour if you take your time.... but of course it's not the only way to get from Sydney to Nundle so we'll see what people think. Cobber.

Remember that if you are coming to the 2016 Nationals at South West Rocks then you can link up with the group travelling from Cowra for a wander through some beautiful country. Further information is contained in an earlier post on this thread.
A perfect opportunity for those new forum members to get to know us.
